Thanks for letting us know this film was coming on. I subscribe to
TCM's Now Playing but I still would have missed it because it didn't
list Richard in the TCM write-up. TCM has a bad habit of only
listing three actors per film. So why does Richard have 4th billing
in this film? His role was clearly bigger than the guy who had 3rd
billing. Was the fellow who played the dancer, Anthony Dextor, that
big of a star. I'm not familiar with him myself. For that matter
Jessie White and Alan "Fred Flinstone" Reed deserved bigger billing
too. :) Very cute film and Richard was great fun to watch. Thanks
again for the heads up!!!

Richard's "Follow The Boys" had originally been scheduled to play on
TCM in early April, but it was shelved for the Charlton Heston tribute,
along with three of "Ben-Hur"self's movies.
Thanks for alerting us to this movie....which hasn't been on in about
two years. Hope we don't have to wait six months for FTW to resurface
again!
And we get a double dose of Richard this Memorial Day weekend,
because "Tomorrow Is Forever" is playing on Monday, May 26 on TCM at
12:15 p.m.
The above (and below!) times are Eastern Standard - as always, check
your local listings, especially if you are on satellite or cable.
Enjoy! Richard's got a couple of kissing scenes in "He Laughed Last"
that outsmack any he did in The Big Valley, and he says "I love you" in
this one, too! Great family scene at the end. (And Frankie Laine
sings "Danny Boy" twice)
Make sure you've got padding on the floor when you swoon!

Color me blue, as in sad! I don't have email access at home so I
missed this post and I missed the movie, He Laughed Last!
Although, I did have quite the little RL marathon without the help of
TCM. I got the Western anthology that has Kansas Raiders and another
anthology that has Cult of the Cobra. The Sci-fi anthology also has
Tarantula which stars RL's second wife. However, I cannot watch it,
if anybody wants it - I'll give it away! I cannot stand spiders,
even fake ones! I don't really care for snakes either, but that one
I HAD to watch ;-) albeit making a screen with my fingers over my
eyes.
But I would have definitely preferred kisses over snakes!

I'm sorry you missed it. I DVR'd it and actually liked it. It was cute. The
reviews said it stunk.
I'd love to see tarantula some day.
If there was anyway I could send you He Laughed Last I would.

Goodness, Stacy...what reviews were those? Anything on TCM is always
very nicely written up....see below....even if some movies aren't
repeatedly screened due to lack of high profile stars or awards.
There are SO many movies out there that just because the numbers on
the requests to DVD are low really doesn't mean much. Many movies
have historical value. For instance, the music in this movie was
perfect for the 1920's, in which the story was laid, and the
composers of the score worked on two excellent autobiographical
movies for both Eddie Cantor and Al Jolson...as well as composing the
music for the very famous and successful "A Star Is Born."
And, no matter what, I'd say Blake Edwards is laughing last...all the
way to the bank.... since he's a very successful producer and
director (this was merely his second foray into direction), AND he's
happily married to Julie Andrews, to boot!

I'm in EST so I got up early this AM to watch He Laughed Last. I won't spoil it
for those folks who are in later time zones. THANK YOU TCM for showing the
movie! Richard is, of course, excellent - as usual his performance is flawless!
What a great way to start the morning and weekend! :-)
I've got DirecTV with an East Coast feed (3 a.m.) here on the West Coast, Lisa,
so I set the TiVo! Kudos to you for your early viewing!! So, now I've got it
twice if anyone wants a copy. I wanted to compare the surrounding comments to
see if they'd changed any of it or if they had any at all. Robert Osborne
intro'd it the first time I taped it. No mention of Richard, then,
unfortunately.
It's a wonderfully crafted, period-piece movie - right down to the opening
credits. You can see the future brilliance of Edwards' Pink Panther series
starting to flower in this one. Hilarious characterizations all around, and
Richard truly shone in his. Because he's so drop-dead gorgeous and delivers his
lines so comfortably, I think Hollywood, typically, overlooked in many ways the
brilliance of his work.
One interesting note: the kid in the final scene who mugged the camera at the
dinner table was a very young Jon Provost - who later showed up as Tommy
Rettig's replacement on the "Lassie" series!
Yep! A great way to start the day and the weekend!

PS: You mention how RL delivers his lines so comfortably. I think in this
particular movie it really struck me in that last scene that you also mention
with Jon. He is just SOOOO natural with those kids acting up at the dinner
table. He didn't have his own children at the time, so perhaps from his own
experience as a kid (LOL) :-) but his entire demeanor is THE perfect parent!
