It's funny how the much-hyped exit polling wasn't an immediate dead giveaway is the media questioning as to the results of the election that would see an independent candidate win the Presidential election when in reality, he didn't even come close.  I guess it's not important to think too much about the implausibility, but how can you not, when you're supposed to reflect on the real-world questions regarding the electronic voting system?

One final thing to remember: Robin Williams + comedy = bad movie experience.  At least he doesn't get covered in poop in this one!

Click the link below before November 7th to cast your vote!

This film was released a month too early, as it plays out more as a "turkey" for Thanksgiving than as a fright-fest for Halloween.  If seeing people open their eyes wide and stare stoically is your idea of a scary time at the movies, this is the kind of film just made for you.  Personally, I was more scared by the episode of the "Dick Van Dyke Show" where the walnut theatens to steal away Dick's thumbs.

Click the link below, or I'll be the one holding a grudge!

The Grudge 2  (2006) / Horror-Mystery

MPAA Rated: PG-13 for disturbing images, violence, some sensuality, and language
Running Time: 95 min.

Cast: Amber Tamblyn, Edison Chen, Arielle Kebbel, Jennifer Beals, Teresa Palmer, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Misako Uno, Sarah Roemer, Matthew Knight, Joanna Cassidy, Jenna Dewan
Director: Takashi Shimizu
Screenplay: Stephen Susco (based (sort of) on the movie, "Ju-On: The Grudge", by Takashi Shimizu)

I'm just curious, have you ever gotten "hate" mail in which the person
was actually capable of using proper spelling, grammar,
capitalization, or punctuation?

I have to admit, I take it as a backhanded compliment that those who absolutely hate me for my opinions enough to write to me are obviously educationally challenged.  Is that bad of me?

I guess the kindest thing to say is that some of them are just kids, but I think most kids are more articulate and intelligent in their arguments and grammar than what is represented from the mail I receive.

On the other hand, look at these others I've received in the last month or so that were positive.  Notice the writing skills of the authors of these notes:

"Your review superbly illuminates what is very good about the film. I am a history - social studies teacher among other things, and I admired the artistry and bold direction of Marie Antoinette.

I enjoyed reading your view of the film. Indeed, cut Sofia Coppola more slack than was given her father for the inventive One from the Heart.

Thank you for your insightful review."

"I am a huge crime family movie fan, mostly true crime movies such as Donnie Brasco. I have started collecting the movies on DVD.  Have you gheard of Facone with Jason Gedrick and Titus Welliver?  It was a made for TV television event with 6 episodes, but I have been unable to find it on DVD.. In my opinion, that is the ultimate of True Crime.  If you know where to find Falcon, please email me.
I enjoyed your review about 10th & Wolf.  I think Ribisi played that part to the T. "

"Hi Vince

Just came across your review of "The One and Only" and have to say you couldnt have put it any better.

As you probably realise I loved the film and can't understand why it didnt achieve more however I didnt realize that it was directed by Carl Reiner of Jerk and Two Brains fame which I'm sure helped made it what it was.

The film made me realize what a great talent Henry Winkler is, what a pity it would seem that he will only be remembered for one thing.

I have nothing to do with the film industry other than paying to go to the movies so I hope you"dont mind me writing to you."

"Hi.
I don't remember how I stumbled upon your web page with your reviews, but I'll say that it quickly made it into my bookmarks.
Most of the time, we share very much the same sensiblities about the films you review, and occasionally not.....but regardless of overlapping taste I just want to say that I really like and appreciate the quality of your writing in a brief discussion of each film.
I often will go and see what you think of a film, either before, or after viewing it myself.

Keep up the good work if it satisies your soul.....and know that it is valued beyond your keyboard.

and, if you have time....a quick question......on average how many pictures do you take in in a week?

    Happy in the dark, Mark"

Amazing the difference! Maybe articulate people don't NEED to write
angry letters to complete strangers because they have other ways to
properly express themselves, whereas these not-so-smart people just
pound on their keyboard at the first sign of disagreement.

As for kids, yea that does explain SOME of it. But if that's the
case, I fear for our future, as my spelling and grammar was MUCH
better than that before I left elementary school.

Glad you do also get tons of positive feedback, though I guess those
aren't as fun to post. :)

This is one of those movies where it looks like actors playing dress up rather than a period piece.  Brian De Palma -- weren't you once an interesting director?  When the ads have to state, "from the director of Scarface:, you know they are digging way back.  They used to say "from Brian De Palma".

Who said there's no life after "The Incredible Hulk"?  Lou Ferrigno shows his acting chops in this Italian-made clunker, and the results are funnier than most comedies produced at the time.  They used to call these kinds of movies, "swords and sandal"epics, but nowadays we call the "sword and steroids".

Brad movie?  You decide from this sparkling dialogue:

Hercules: Who are you?
Circe: Who are you? This is my island, and you are the intruder!
Hercules: My name is Hercules.
Circe: I know. I know everything.
Hercules: Why did you ask then?
Circe: To test your sincerity!

Minos: We have to stop them, Daedalus.
Daedalus: My little creation should do the trick. My three-headed metal monster will consume Circe and Hercules in its flames!
Minos: Another mechanical monster?
Daedalus: And why not, Minos?!
Minos: The last one didn't work so well, you know...
Daedalus: It spits cosmic rays of deadly fire! Do you know what that means?
Minos: Cosmic rays?.. That means that... Hercules and Circe will disintegrate!

Click the link below, before I quote again!

Hercules  (1983) / Adventure-Fantasy

MPAA Rated: PG for violence and brief nudity (probably PG-13 today)
Running Time: 98 min.

Cast: Lou Ferrigno, Sybil Danning, Brad Harris, Ingrid Anderson, William Berger, Rosana Podesta, Mirella D'Angelo
Director: Lewis Coates (Luigi Cozzi)
Screenplay: Lewis Coates (Luigi Cozzi)

One of the constant complaints about Keanu Reeves' acting style is that he is stiff and lacking genuine emotion.  So what does Richard Linklater do to make him more animated?  Why, animate him, of course!

Based on a novel by Philip K. Dick, who also created the works that great sci fi films like Blade Runner, Total Recall, and Minority Report are based on.

Reeves was attracted to the movie because he really likes Dick.  He is quoted as saying, "I picked up some Dick at an early age and found it impossible to put down.  I gobbled up as much as I could and it filled me with fantastic notions, probing deep within my psyche.  When it comes to Dick, I just can't get enough!"

Click the link below, before you come to the realization that Keanu can't read!

A Scanner Darkly  (2006) / Animation-Sci Fi

MPAA Rated: R for drug content, sexual content, language, and a brief violent image
Running Time: 100 min.

Cast: Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson, Rory Cochrane, Winona Ryder, Angela Rawna
Director: Richard Linklater
Screenplay: Richard Linklater (based on the novel by Philip K. Dick)

Many people have speculated as to why the film is called Five Easy Pieces.  Some have said it refers to the title of a piano lessons that Jack Nicholson learned from as a child, but we all know it is about the "five easy pieces" of ass that Jack scores with in the film itself.

Now I am hungry for Reeses Pieces...

The highlight of Five Fingers is the sponge bath scene, where a naked Ryan Phillippe shows that Dutch bankers have rippling abs.  Of course, from the title, we know which appendages he is going to lose, as this is one little Dutch boy that won't be plugging up any holes in the dam.

Click the link below, and be thankful you still have the fingers to do it!

Oops, he didn't put his fingers in a dam, it was in a dyke. I guess
that's a joke that needs no punch line. (You can't punch if you can't
make a first anyway, my fingerless friend).

Eh, no one will be looking at his hands with rippling abs anyway.
While he might not be able to punch you, I can!

I wrote the review for this a couple of weeks ago, but I kept forgetting to post.  I barely remember seeing it.  Finally it has arrived for all to ignore.  It stars Sinbad -- 'nuff said.

Click the link below, or don't.  Ignore it.  I really don't care.  You won't remember it either.

I used to tease my little brother for wanting to see this travesty of an infomercial masquerading as a heartwarming children's film.  Of course, he only wanted to see it because it previewed Super Mario Bros. 3.  Thankfully, I let this old cheese of a movie age over time to the point where its flavor your provide the most enjoyment.  Although billed as a comedy, I didn't laugh at a single intentional joke, but damn it was hilarious anyway.  Perhaps the funniest movie I've seen in some time.

Put on that Power Glove, and click the link below!

I'm generally happy when I see a new Almodovar film and half the cast isn't composed of men dressed up as women.  Actually, I haven't really confirmed that these are actually women, so who am I to say?  It would explain why Tom Cruise would want to go out with Penelope Cruz for as long as he did.

I do know that Penelope put on a prosthetic ass to play her role here, as apparently hers wasn't big enough.  I didn't even notice this until I read about it after the film was over, which says to be that Penelope just doesn't have one.  I think she should do what guys do, and just stick a big wallet back there.

Click the link below -- with your prosthetic finger!

Critics are raving over this juvenile comedy, which leads me to believe that they will enjoy any film that has subtitles.  it also means they like to see two naked men wrestle.

Dan will most likely be disappointed in Vegas. He is handed those
cards on the street for half-nude girls available to "entertain" and
is probably wondering where the collectible cards are for young boys.

Sorry, I was out of town for 5 days, and just didn't have the mental fortitude toget all my crap together (I'm still about 2 reviews behind).

Here are the reviews I managed to post up while away:

A documentary about crossword puzzle and the nerds who do them: http://qwipster.net/wordplay.htm

A family film about rats and the toilets that flush them: http://qwipster.net/flushedaway.htm

A horror film about ghosts and the families that never run from them: http://qwipster.net/poltergeist2.htm

A drama about Tom Cruise and how he likes to put cock and tail together: http://qwipster.net/cocktail.htm

A sci fi film made to dispel the notion that James Caan is dead: http://qwipster.net/aliennation.htm

A comedy made to show that Will Ferrell isn't as annoying when he has a script: http://qwipster.net/strangerthanfiction.htm

A comedy that sees Whoopi Goldberg dress up like an old man and still not see a dip in her "doability" factor: http://qwipster.net/associate.htm

I'll get back to my normally abnormal posts soon, once I get caught up, hopefully in the next couple of days.  Now please return to your regularly schedule lives, alread in progress.
