Ugh! I hate this particular legend. People are always coming up to me
(knowing what a "TPA-head" I am) and asking me if I knew about this 1911
movie. It's funny you mentioned the munchkin hanging thing because prior to
this 1911 TPA myth, people used to come up to me (because I'm also sort of a
"Wizard-of-Oz-head"...but not nearly as big a one as I am TPA) and they
would ask me about the munchkin hanging thing. Both of these stories always
bug me for some reason. Anyhoo... For more tidbits about this ridiculous
legend, go here (including some input from a beloved "Captain-in-Absentia":

Now...as far as a what Poseidon related urban myth of our own we should
start, I think the easiest and most obvious is that we start a myth that TPA
is based on a true story. Whenever I introduce a TPA virgin to the film for
the first time they always *always* turn to me immediately following the
prologue (At midnight on New Years Eve, the S.S. Poseidon blah, blah,
blah...) and ask me if the story is true. I think I'm going to start saying
yes.
P.S. To those of you who visit the Triviastic site, this TPA thing is filed
under Titanic. And I wrote to the person further down in the list of
comments challenging her to produce proof that this silent TPA exists. She
(or he) claims it does and that she/he as actually seen it. Ah...the
wonders of hallucinagenic substances...
