The Film Programme
Francine Stock talks to Michael Mann about his gangster epic, Public
Enemies, starring Johnny Depp. Michael Powell's widow, Thelma
Schoonmaker, discusses her husband's classic The Red Shoes, which she
and Martin Scorsese have just restored to its former glory.
Not much time spent talking to Thelma, and not much time spent talking
about The Red Shoes. Francine Stock was talking to Paul Schrader at the
same time so she spent a lot of the time allocated (10-15 minutes)
talking to Paul about writing and then asking if Paul & Thelma had
actually worked together on things like Bringing Out the Dead or Last
Temptation. They hadn't. Paul said that he didn't work with Scorsese
much at all after he'd handed the script over.
But it's always good to hear Thelma, even briefly.
