I've got an idea for the scrapbook section of the PSAS newsletter. Along the lines of Lumiere & Company (a movie from 1995 made by different people handing around the same vintage camera), folks might take pictures with known examples of his favorite gear (or, for the Leica-impaired, some approximation) on an anniversary. I'd prefer the birthday; less depressing. I'd like to do a version of something I once saw in Peterson's Photographic, but with two photographers who are each other's subjects. (Must have matching equipment. No nudity. Unless you don't think you'll mind the cold.)
I first have to buy more stuff, because every time I go into a camera shop the guy behind the counter tries to sell me a 70-210 mm zoom lens instead of what I want. At least now I know that happens to everyone all the time...
If you go to Google and search on "filter+olden+camera+new+york" on the Web and in Groups, you should get descriptions of Olden's (mentioned in the Times interview in the most recent winter issue) that only make me want more to go for a visit, rather than less. I don't think I should reproduce quotes in a group with a public archive, because the reviews are not raves, though they are telling and even amusing. You have to do a "find on page" search for "olden" in your browser when you get to the photo.net and rec.photo pages linked as results, and see what I mean.
I will say, though, that certain phrases that appear make me laugh now every time I think of them.
