I hadn't seen Hard Days Night in years and I knew the" connection" to them and to Lester. Sorta in 5 different ways.
I also knew Can't Buy Me Love would be in the movie, and how Peter Sellers did that one !
What I hadn't remembered is that the dvd has an entire second disc of special features. It's excellent, and I wish Peter Sellers movies would have such special features. A few do...
There is a commentary segment of 7 actors in the movie, and their experience.Such as a dancer/actor in the dance scene, and the young boy (now grown up) who was playing hooky from school and met Ringo playing hooky from the Beatles-scene..Each actor talking of the experience of it,how they got the part, and well, the "feel" of it all.And the humor.
That brings me to the 20 to 30 minute segment with Tony Barrow-he the Beatles publishist.Talked of Beatlemania and whether the movie brought that to extreme or it was a movie showing how extreme it already was.Discussing what was fiction and what were the "4 boys" as themselves in the movie. Their own sense of humor or perhaps Dick Lester's.?
The answer for him -as he selectively quoted The London Times, and the general press coverage and several reviews of the movie.
" Goony Humor" Goony very Goony. and very Goonish. Referring,of course to The GOONS.The Goons starring Peter Sellers and a whole team. That's what Dick brought into the movie."
Then there were B&W photos of Sellers with the Goons.
It's nice to see him and he get "credit" for the humor in the movie.
Then there was a segment with John Junkin, the scriptwriter. He brought up Idiot Weekly saying "With Peter Sellers & various others."
Once again only Peter Sellers' name is mentioned. Perhaps the only name they each remembered. Or perhaps they want us to remember.
Dunno, It's nice either way.
