This past June, New Orleans was home to one of 9 teams accross the
country of teen filmmakers participating in Samsung Mobile Fresh
films
(www.fresh-films.com). Out of thousands of applicants, eleven teens
were accepted onto the New Orleans team. Six are residents of
Lousiana
(including myself), one from Arkansas, two from Florida, and one from
Mississippi.

As a team, in one week we made a Hollywood-style short film on all
professional equipment, rotating positions so we all participated in
every aspect of pre-production, filming, and post-production.
Our film, "Listening to Fireflies" features an all-Louisiana cast,
thanks to casting help from Liz Coulon and Ryan Glorioso.

The Samsung Mobile Fresh Films program is, overall, a competition.
Though all the films are judged by a celebrity jury (to see the jury,
click here http://www.fresh-films.com/2008_Jury.htm ). However the
jury's pick does not determine the winner of the prizes. That
decision
is left up to the viewers, in an American-Idol-style face-off.
Our film is in the drama genre, and during voting week (July 31 -
August 6) polls are open for best Drama (New Orleans, Salt Lake City,
and Dallas). The winnder from this voting week will face-off at the
end of August in a voting week with the winners from the other two
genres (comedy and action).

The winning team will get a trip to Hollywood, where the winning film
will premiere at an AFI film fest; a Samsung Mobile phone; and a mini
film studio.
