Stephen hill started dropping out of doing some scenes, because they
conflicted with
his religious beliefs. I`m not sure if he
resigned because of his beliefs, or he got fired because they got in the
way of storylines, filming etc.
There was never any on screen explanation
for the the change of character, so far as
I remember.
