Anybody interested in having a shindig in DC on the 30th? My place is
only be big enough for 4-5 guests, or we could meet up somewhere...
I'm new to the area so any suggestions would be welcome. I figure it's
always nice to have an excuse to get together with fellow Browncoats,
but I'm not sure I want to go all the way to Baltimore...
:)

Meg,

I'm in Crofton, and I think a soiree at Dougherty's would be super
shiny! What time?

And does any MidAt browncoat have an HD DVD player? I got all excited
that Paramount's first HD DVD release was our beloved SERENITY and
ordered it before I realized that my DVD player won't support it. So,
I'll bring the disc (and beer or other libations)if someone's got a
player.

Hi everyone. I'm MalNourished, and I'm new to the group. I look
forward to seeing many of you at the shindig in Philly.

I also want to spread the word a bit about Big Damn Thank You. It's a
new website for all Browncoats to submit photos and comments to, in
essence thanking Universal for making Serenity.

Anyway, it's nice to e-meet you all. :)

Hi, neighbors!

the Susquehanna Browncoats (Crossroads Brigade) is having a
Shindigette at a Harrisburg Chinese buffet starting 18:30 (6:30) -
ish. Y'all are welcome to join us--it's only about an hour north on
I-83 (exit 45). Just in case things don't pan out for your bar
fight...errr, adventure.

I live in Baltimore City and Dougherty's Pub is a pretty nice big bar that
wouldn't mind having
us. Lots of tables, we could reserve some.
My apartment is very small, but also near by for pregameing or movie watching,
although i
suspect if we get enough people they might let us project movies or bring our

Goddess, I'd love too, but we just had someone quit abruptly at work while we
were already understaffed. Between that and the money I can't go. It's a shame
too. I should organize my next visit to my family (they live right next to SF)
around next year's Browncoat Ball.

Have fun though!

Hi Megan,

If you can't find anyone from your group who's coming (you all are, though,
right?), you can jump on the sfbrowncoats yahoo group and ask there to see
if anyone has space for a roommate. I know at least a few people have found
hook-ups this way already.

And yes, going to a new city for something like this can make one a little
nervous. I felt the same way when I flew to Chicago for the first Browncoat
Ball. That was the first fandom-related event I think I ever went to
(any fandom,
not just Firefly), and it was one of the best weekends of my life. I'd say
about 70% of the peopel I hold most dear these days I met as a result of
that little leap of faith.

Clearly, I'm biased, but that's my perspective. The people you meet at the
Browncoat Ball are the kind that change your life. That's what makes this
fandom thrive.

Is anybody in the group seriously planning on going?

I'm considering shelling out the money, just a little nervous.
I'd probably go alone,
It is a pretty far and although the tickets are cheap I'm not sure about the
hotel bill.

if anyone has more information let me know.

Dear All,

I'm a silly actor. A Joss follower also. No matter of that though.

On a whim, I signed up for a $50,000 online karaoke contest. Visions
of paying my father back for tuition loans and creditors back for
crediting dancing in my head. Acting classes too. Also, philanthropy.

I saw all the efforts made to benefit Equality Now with the recent
screenings and I thought I'd throw in my two cents. Or rather, one
thousand dollars. Doubled by Starbucks (my overlord with a pact to
double employee donations up to $1,000).

(*I have addressed some concerns at the validity of this claim and my
intentions on the Australian Browncoat board at
http://serenitymovie.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=3158 *)

If I win the contest, I want Equality Now to get that $2,000. In
order to win, I need votes for my video.

http://www.bix.com/entry/3624

It's silly, like myself. It's 80s. It has the opportunity to help a
lot of people. All you need to do is register (the site so far is
spamless towards me) and give me a thumbs-up. Between now and the end
of September, I need to get into the top 5 (about 100 more votes then
I have now should do that) in order to advance to the next round.
Once there, just gotta get the most votes.

The gratefulness would overwhelm both me and Equality Now. I've
already checked with both Starbucks and EN, and they have both said
all is Kosher with the donations. I plan to thank those who help me
and EN out with much in the way of shindigs ('specially in Chicago,
LA, DC and NC where I plan to visit with some of the winnings after
Uncle Sam takes 'bout half of it).

If there are questions, concerns, critiques or whatnot, just let me
know at:
bryandavidcohen@...

If anybody still wants to discuss the legitimacy, I'll provide my
phone # after you e-mail so that we can chat about all things
wonderful. A read over of some of my Joss-influenced scripts, perhaps
as well :-P.

Think it over.

Thanks muchly,
                    Bryan

The Browncoat Ball is less than two weeks away, and there have been a
lot of new developments over the past few weeks, so I thouht I'd drop
everyone a line with the latest and greatest.

     * Discount Tickets!!
We have a limited number of discount tickets available on eBay, at
roughly 20% below the normal price. The discount tickets are 125 for
the full weekend, 80 for the Saturday ticket (which includes the boat
tour and the ball), and 60 for the Saturday night ball tickets. You can
find them here: http://search.ebay.com/browncoat-ball

     * Massage, Hair & Makeup
Saturday afternoon, after the boat tour, we will have an on-site
masseuse as well as a hair/makeup artist at the hotel. Their services
are not included in the ticket price, and they can each accommodate only
a limited number of clients, but if you're looking to truly pamper
yourself before the ball, we've got you covered.

     * Special Guests
The first waltz of the evening will be lead by our very special guests,
William Shatner and George Lucas. Shatner will be leading, of course,
and Lucas will be wearing a stunning flannel gown designed by Hasbro's
merchandising department. Ok, no, not really. But we will have Firefly
costume designer Shawna Trpcic and the original browncoat maker Jonathan
Logan in the house. And both of them are much prettier than Shatner or
Lucas, so I still think we're doing ok.

     * Merchandizing!
No, this isn't another Lucas-sold-his-soul-to-Hasbro joke. That's been
done to death. It is instead a plug for the beautiful posters,
t-shirts, tote bags and coffee mugs that Black Market Beagles has
produced to help promote the Browncoat Ball. Adam has truly outdone
himself this time. http://www.cafepress.com/blkmktbeagles/1760339
We're trying to get another few dozen folks signed up before the
registration deadline next Tuesday, so please pass he word along to
anyone you might know in the browncoat and/or dance communities.
Thanks!

See you at the ball!

YOU HAVE BEEN SENT A WAVE FROM [www.fireflystore.net]

INCOMING...........
WHAT THE GORRAM....
DECODING...........
ANSWER: WE ARE

Active members of the UK Browncoats.
Passionate fans of Firefly for over 3 years
Got the bug from downloaded internet episodes in '03.
Raised lots of money for several charities.
Been around a while.
Worked with lots of lovely US/Canadian shops and groups.
Had a new facelift for the website.
Looking better than ever.
Taking the fandom to the outer planets.
Would like to work with you guys.

Okie doke. As a charity-centric Firefly merchandise website, we're
looking to go mega high profile in the coming months through fan and
cast events, charity tables, signings and press features in the UK
Sci-Fi media, so hopefully the word will finally get out worldwide
about us doing our thing for the guys in brown and helping charity
at the same time.

But to help this happen even quicker (and to spread the Firefly love
amongst all you groovy members) I've made it a mission of mine to
join at least 1 new Browncoats group every week to meet new people,
have fun, gain inspiration and help expand the number of fans in
the 'Verse.

So heya. My name is STEVE and I'm an active member of the UK
Browncoats, and very envious of your community set up here -
compared to you guys, the UK is pathetic I'm afraid to say, apart
from a few battle weary people who try their hardest and have fun.
We DO all have meet ups and the fanbase is quite big, but there's no
community spirit really, not like what I can see here.

With a bit of luck and through some reciprocal linking though, our
mailing list and visitors will read all about how you guys are
having fun as groups and are organising lots of stuff, so they will
get inspired and tell others, who will then tell….well, you know the
score on that one no doubt. Viral is the way.

Basically from our perspective though, we need to get more people
involved in the Browncoat family for the benefit of everyone, plus
charity and fashion have never had so much fun together!

In fact the next phase of the fandom's journey is so close I'm sure
I can ALMOST FEEL the sweaty palm of a random media executive as he
reaches for the green light button that means we have approval for a
sequel, TV movie or animated version of the Firefly/Serenity-verse.

But aside from that, community groups and social gatherings are
really what keeps the fandom alive in my opinion, along with the
actual fans of course. Either way, it's gonna be good times ahead
whatever happens.
: )

So yep, anything you can do to help us spread the word, raise
awareness for the show and help raise cash for others less fortunate
would be great - and then in turn we can also help you guys to tell
the world about what you're getting up to.

I really am in awe of what everyone in the US and Canada is managing
to achieve for each other, charities and the cast. We have meet ups
here in the UK, but nothing like the regular fun and social stuff
I've read about so far and with so many people…. I'm gorram envious
if the truth be known – Browncoats are the most passionate and
generous people I know and well, I wanna know more of them!

Lots of merchandise on our site is able to be modified for clubs and
groups, but let us know if you want anything particular and we can
probably sort you out, along with a discount, etc. We have worked
hard with POPLOLLIES, BOOSTER EVENTS and others like them, so we
would also be really happy to continue sending out the odd
competition prize or donated items for shindigs/events too if you do
those, along with a supply of groovy candid photos as well from the
oh-so lovely cast and crew we've worked with along the way so far.

Right then, almost done. If you've almost nodded off and your eyes
are glazed over due to all this blahblahblah so far, then sincere
apologies from me but the most important thing to remember is that
Firefly fandom really is THE best and no mistake, the collective
groups in the States and Canada can be the inspiration for fans
worldwide – and it's time to push it out there even further now and
show others what they're missing!

Cheers then, please visit the site, join the mailing list (CONTACT)
and see you in the 'Verse

Steve

PS: Okay, now the formalities are outta the way - how is everyone
then? We've actually got a charity table at an event next week in
the UK with a bit of help from some of the cast members: Jewel
(Kaylee), Morena (Inara), Mark (Badger), Chrissie (Saffron) and a
few 'surprise' others - so please feel free to post any messages of
goodwill or admiration here or email them to us in the next few days
and I can print them out and give them to the guys from everyone
here at the MidAtlantic Browncoats.
: )

Hope to chat soon and don't worry - no more website plugs from me.

Bye. I'm stopping now. Honest. Phew!

Ok by the way this ID is a rp character I created years ago and most
browncoats on the Serenity site know me as EternalEyz. I have been
trying to meet browncoats around my area to hang with and have never
been to a shindig. The horror! Anyway I'm in the SC area right by the

anyone is near by give me a shout and maybe we can meet up and chat.
And if you wish to know more about me just ask. Till then be well

won the Blue Sun Fandom Award for the Best Filk of 2005. Check it out:
http://mysite.verizon.net/vzenvl6n/bsastrawberries/id29.html
Recordings of the award-winning song are available on our album On the
Drift: Music Inspired by Firefly and Serenity at www.cdbaby.com/bedlambards
By the way, a song from On the Drift will be featured on the next CDBaby
compilation, on account of the Firefly-inspired album staying on the top 100
sellers' list every since its release last winter. Thanks, Browncoats!
Finally, keep an ear out for the next installment of The Signal, on which we
performed live at Dragon*Con. (While there we got to meet Alan Tudyk and
Summer Glau, who thanked us for the "beautiful music.")
Keep flyin',
Cedric

Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Miriam and I just moved to
the DC area from Minneapolis for about a year. I'm happy to find an active
Browncoat group here!

So my question is, where did you get your hands on a DVD with Joss's Alien:
Resurrection script? Is is on the DVD of the movie? 'Cause it'd be worth renting
just for that, I think.

   Thanks :)

I am by no means knocking the movie because while not the best of the
Alien Series it has its merits...anywho, the reason it didnt turn out
that great whether it stuck exactly to Joss's script or not was the
director...I LOVE Jean-Pierre Jeunet (City of Lost Children is
brilliant) but when you have a foreign filmmaker try and helm an
American franchise you're doomed. Take a look at Freddy vs.
Jason...good god what wasted potential....

I belong to the YouTube craze and I was searching for cool
firefly/serenity fan music videos. Theres alot out there for farscape
(they evn made an awards competition for them) but I couldnt find many
for Whedon's most brilliant show. There was one however that had a
good idea but was made extremly poorly, Sooooooooo.....I made my own
version of it. Hopefully I did the song and movie justice. Check it
out if you get the chance.
