On Claudia's website http://www.mary-stuart-masterson.com/ she asks
what actor would we want to see her teamed up with. I'd like to
clarify my comments on what a SKOW II would look like (not a remake).
What I meant is not a remake, but to make SKOW II, 20 years later.
MSM and Eric would play Watts and Keith, 20 years later, married to
each other and with kids. They would be the same persons, but grown
up and later in life, where they are now. The main part of the
story would be a love story, ala John Hughes style, of one of their
teenage kids, it would not be about Watts and Keith. As the signal
characters from SKOW, they would have much, much more than a cameo
role, maybe a minor, touching subplot - but not the main plot. If
the story were about them, it would fail both creatively and
artistically, after all, you can't recapture a special moment (it
would end up tacky or silly). But as more than a cameo, maybe a
poignant small subplot, it would work handsomely, and would be the
perfect link with the original SKOW (especially for us 30-40
somethings). Now, Lea Thompson and Elias Koteas can do cameos -
that would work. How about Lea as one of the HS teachers? Or, get
this, Elias as a police officer? Craig Shaeffer is a fine actor -
but he wouldn't be needed. If he were to do a cameo, maybe as a
successful businessman (no bitterness from the past is needed).
