Studio Issues Casting Call for 'Sisters,' to Be Filmed in Lane
County, Ore.
Apr. 7 - An open casting call will be held Saturday for "Sisters," a
major motion picture scheduled to begin filming in Lane County later
this month.
Production will take place entirely in Lane County, with locations
that include the University of Oregon, the old Cottage Grove Hospital
and the Chambers Media Center soundstages. Filming is expected to
take about four weeks.
The cast of "Sisters," which includes Maria Bello, Rip Torn, Mary
Stuart Masterson and Chris O'Donnell, will start arriving this
weekend.
The movie, inspired by Anton Chekov's stage play "The Three Sisters,"
tells the tale of siblings living in a college town who struggle to
exorcise the ghost of their dead father and reconcile their own lives
and relationships.
The last major motion picture seeking to take advantage of Eugene's
university atmosphere was the toga-rific "Animal House," filmed here
and in Cottage Grove in 1977.
While "Animal House" was ostensibly filmed at the fictitious Faber
College, sets for "Sisters" will try to look like Manhattan's Upper
East Side, local casting director Ed Ragozzino said.
"We'll have to change license plates and that sort of thing," he said.
Ragozzino said he's looking for about 100 more paid extras for
nonspeaking roles to join the 80 already cast. Many of the roles are
for college-age men and women, but there are additional roles for
older adults.
Ragozzino said the extras will be used in crowd scenes as well as
more intimate settings such as those filmed in a grocery store or
with the principal actors walking down streets.
The movie will be directed by Arthur Allan Seidelman and produced by
Eugene business executive Carolyn Chambers.
About 80 percent of the movie will be filmed at the Chambers Media
Center soundstages, where workers are now occupied around the clock
constructing various sets.
The outdoor portions of the movie will be shot first, he said.
Applicants for the extra roles are asked to show up at 10 a.m. at the
East Gate of the Chambers Media Center, 2975 Chad Drive in Eugene.
Those interested should bring a photograph of themselves and a resume
listing any pertinent experience, though experience is not necessary.
"Sisters" will mark the second major movie produced by Chambers, who
teamed up three years ago with Seidelman to create "Puerto Vallarta
Squeeze."
The movie is now in distribution.
