The 48 Hour Film Project
Kate,
Hello! I'm editing a film someone else produced as I am reading this e-mail that
just came into my inbox this afternoon.
I have worked in the Architectural & Construction field for 9 years, the IT &
Graphic design field for 10 and now hobby as an independent Automobile
enthusiast for the Saab Automobile.
I've been living in Washington, D.C. for the past 4 years, then in Sweden for
one and grew up in New England (MA/NH/VT) before that. I am finally moving back
to New England with my fiancee next week for a June 1st move in to beautiful
downtown Portland, Maine and I seek work in the Film Industry.
Here are some of the work I have already begun to do with various
equipment including HDV.
http://www.saabhistory.com/services/
I am looking to break into the film industry and need to know where I should
look in Portland, Maine (downtown preferred).
Would this be a good place to start with this project? I've been renting
equipment so I would need to best partner with a team.
Anyone interested in partnering with someone looking to break into the industry?
Best,
Ryan

information Warren was able to provide, must find the cure, discover
its origins, learn how to implement it, and keep herself alive along

The following is information I received from the producer of Portland,

Hello Everyone!
The countdown begins. The teams are starting to roll in and things
are starting to heat up!
We have a little less than a month now before the 48HRFP filming
weekend, August 17, 2007.
So if you haven't signed up, get on it!
Here are a few things I wanted to mention about this year's
competition. Most importantly, what you win! So here is a link to
what's at stake for this year's competition:
http://www.48hourfilm.com/filmmakers/prizes.php $7500, not too
shabby....
Now that we have that out of the way, as many of you already now a
Google Group has been created to help people get in touch with one
another about the competition. Actors looking to join crews and crews
are looking for actors, so on and so forth. I invite you to join the
group and check it every now and then. You may come across the next
big star! I created a couple of threads that I thought were logical,
but I am always open to suggestions (and that goes for anything and
everything!).
Here is the link:
http://groups.google.com/group/portland-48-hour-film-project-2007?hl=en
Finally, I really look forward to this year's competition. I hope you
all come out and represent Maine filmmaking. Last year was a great
year, especially for a first time city. What made it a great year was
the friendly but heated competition, the great films, the audience,
and all the people involved in the filmmaking. It is a great
opportunity for every one to come out have a good time, be creative,
and make a film. Oh yeah, and you get to see your movie on the big
screen in front of family, friends, and peers.
If anyone has any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at the
e-mail below. I will do my best to get back to you as soon as
possible. Please check out the 48HRFP website for Rules/Regs and the like.
http://www.48hourfilm.com
Finally,
Here is a little promo clip my friend Eric put together from last
year's entries, enjoy! (He scored the music as well).

Maine Film & Video Association Prepares for Summer
In developing its schedule for the upcoming summer season, the Maine
Film & Video Association (MFVA) is taking steps to better serve its
membership as well as non members in the Maine Production Community by
offering educational programs, lowering membership rates, and updating
the MFVA website in an effort to help facilitate communication among
Maine filmmakers.
Board President Chris Sweet says, "We're really moving forward. The
board is very excited about the programs we're lining up for the rest
of 2007. We're looking forward to working with the production
community for another great season."
This summer, the MFVA will host film and television production
seminars, most of which will be offered at no charge to association
members, with plans to continue the series well into 2008. The first
program will be held Thursday, June 7th, from 5 – 8pm at Portland's
SPACE Gallery, and will feature a panel to discuss the importance of
storytelling to the success of both documentary and narrative films.
To date, the MFVA has booked three top-flight Maine writer/producers:
Rush DeNooyer, Dana Rae Warren, and Andy Davis. Other panelists are
soon to be announced.
MFVA board member Allison Carroll Duffy, organizer of the
aforementioned meeting, feels confident that the upcoming series of
events will appeal to MFVA members, and hopefully to the production
community at large. "We've planned our upcoming meetings based
directly on the interests of the MFVA's growing membership. We really
hope that members, other folks involved in production, and anyone else
who is interested will come and check out what MFVA has to offer."
Richard Kane, chair of the Website Committee, adds, "Educational
programs and information exchange are two of the more important
functions a professional organization like the MFVA can facilitate.
We're on the path to becoming an organization of real service to the
industry, and we're looking for members to move into positions of
leadership, to guarantee continuous programming for our members."
After the departure last year of the MFVA's 4-year president, Mika
Lentz, the organization went through a restructuring that, in part,
resulted in a renewed commitment to its website. The group is now
maintaining a strong presence on the web, where it has seen a surge in
the amount of information flowing to its site. Recently, the MFVA has
tracked the progress of several Maine-based independent projects, and
has received a continuous stream of classifieds, festival postings,
and press releases, all from productions looking to connect with their
local film community. The ability to post for free on the MFVA's site
is something the group plans to continue to offer to its members.
"The website has been a great venue for Maine productions," says
MFVA's new Webmaster, Will Fraser. "It's created a network for people
all over the state. The recent interest has been terrific, and it
proves there is a hunger here for networking. We have a very active
and dedicated community."
In direct response to the growth in interest the MFVA has seen, it
has begun restructuring its membership rates. By reducing professional
rates to $25/year, student memberships to $10, and by offering
discounts for professional organizations, the MFVA is dedicating
itself to making it easier for people to communicate with other Maine
filmmakers.
"Probably the most valuable part of being in the MFVA is the
networking," says Kane. "You meet a lot of people with similar
interests and goals. People will say things like, `I really need an
editor on this project,' and then remember someone they met at an MFVA
meeting, or through the website. It can be a huge boost to one's career."
Dates for seminars beyond June, which will include those on the Maine
Film & TV Workshops, TV show hosting, and video distribution, will be
announced shortly. Until then, those interested in finding out more
about the MFVA may visit www.mainefilm.com, or contact Richard Kane at
kanelewis@....
There have a been many additions to the MFVA's site as of late; be
sure to take a look.

their horrific experiences through the imagery and media attention to the Iraq
War. Thousands of these Vets suffer from Post -Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

STILL LIFE tells the painful story of former Marine Mark, his estranged wife
Cheryl and his mistress, Nadine - all doing what they can to survive the dark

ME.) Over the past few years I've been involved with and able to steer toward
ME several
television projects (for FOX, NBC & VH1). In coming years, I look forward to
continuing to do
my best to bring work to ME, and also getting involved in projects that
originate here.
Thanks for letting me join the group!
Cheers,

I would like to introduce myself to the group. (This is a one (1) time only
announcement).
I am in Acquisitions at an independent film distributon start-up based in New
York IMOOVIES, LLC and www.imoovie.com. We want to be the independent film
distributor that works with you to turn your project of passion into a financial
success.
We are currently looking for titles (both exclusive and non-exclusive) to add
to our library. We specifically want innovative and breakthrough titles that
were overlooked by mainstream distributors. We will consider all genres and
languages.
We prefer exclusive titles because they provide greater opportunities in our
on-going negotiations to secure additional avenues of distribution including
downloads, rentals, on-demand, and cable. But we are more than happy to include
both exclusive and non-exclusive titles in our on-line store.
I would love to work with you. Visit us to see how they can be a partner in
your film's success.
