The 48 Hour Film Project's 2008 Tour Hits Portland, Maine on August 15
Filmmakers from all over northern NewEngland and beyond will participate
in the Portland, Maine competitionon August 15th-17th
Filmmakers from Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maryland
willget a chance to show what they can do in just 48 Hours. Taking
placeover the weekend of August 15-17, filmmakers will make a short
film, nomore than 7 minutes long, in just 48 hours. In this contest the
teamswrite, shoot, and edit their films, and race to the drop off,
wherefilms that are even one minute late are disqualified from
competing.
In the 48HFP, participating teams are given a genre, a character,
prop,and a line of dialogue that they must work into their piece. They
areresponsible for putting together a cast and crew, and getting
equipmentand anything else needed to make the film.
This is the 48HFP's third year in Portland and, this year, the
numberof participating teams has grown to 28. Kate Kaminski, the
PortlandProducer, says "For this year's competition, we've
reached out tofilmmakers all over northern New England whose states
either don't yethave the 48HFP or who missed the event in their
state. The result isthat we have teams coming in from New Hampshire,
Massachusetts, andeven Maryland to compete for the "Best of
Portland" prize. This willsurely be the best 48HFP in Portland
yet."
Local sponsors of the Portland 48HFP include The Empire Dine and
Dance,Coffee By Design, Maine Film Office, O2 Salon, Videoport,
FerdinandHome Store, Eli-Phant, and others to be announced.
The gala screening of completed films will take place on Thursday,August
21st in the state of the art digital theater at CinemagicWestbrook. The
public is cordially invited to see what Portland's48HFP filmmakers

The winner of the Portland, Maine 48HFP will go on to compete againstall
of the city winners from around the world for the coveted prize ofBest
48 Hour Film of 2008. Winning films are screened at the 48HFP endof
year celebration, the Filmapalooza, and last year's films screenedat
the Cannes Film Festival.
