Rosie's Dress   Message List

I am making a dress for my 4 year old, so I decided to study the DVD for
details on Rosie's dress.

I found out that the front panel on the bodice is actually subtly patterned
with a medium kind of swirly long leafy pattern. The trim between the front
and side panels of the bodice seems to be two of the same running side by
side, and is kind of a scalloped sort of thing. That's not a good
description. Imagine what you'd get if you had a loose textured piping and
then tied it about every 3/8 of an inch (or around a centimeter). Also, the
trim becomes a tie on the circle keyhole, in a simple bow.

The side and back of the bodice may even be a suede leather.

Saw the back of her bodice and the back of another hobbit woman's bodice,
both of similar construction. They are laced on back, (Rosie has 7 lace
holes on each side, other hobbit has 8), but there is also a panel of the
same fabric and stiffness as bodice. My guess is that on one side it is
sewn in, and on the other side on the bottom it is attached with a couple of
hooks and eyes.

You can really see how this was built to last, even if one gained a bit of
weight.

Also, Rosie is wearing a choker that appears to be the same color as the
bodice trim and has a silver 'buckle'.

She also seems to have a ribbon in her hair. Not satin, but a gauzy soft
kind of thing.

Saw the three skirts.

Frodo has a bit of a gap between his two top front teeth. :)

Anyway, those were my observations. Hope they help someone. I did a search
of the group and didn't see this much detail posted about her dress.

All this for a 4 yr old? Well, lets just say she's my practice :). Next I
have a 9 yr old in Galadrial's mirror dress, a dwarf (my hubby, for helmet,
bracers, and ax head am considering the use of paper mache and paint with
some foil leafing) and I will probably be making Arwen's chase outfit for
myself.

Some clarifications, apologize for the confusion. The trim which becomes the tie is that which is on the edges of the bodice, not that which is between the...

... The trim is basically rick-rack, you can by it in packs at the fabric store - it's the zig-zaggy stuff. Yeah, the keyhole of the bodice does have tie at...

... I know what rick-rack is and I thought so at first. I have a large HD television, and I looked closely and the scallops appear to be exactly opposite...
