OK, more details from FIDM... but also some general stuff about the style
that defines wizards. Just lots of random notes.
Both wizards have "V" yokes.
Hems: hems are turned out, not under. Deep hems. Sleeves are also turned
out.
Sleeves: They don't turn back the same amount all the way around the edge.
In fact, Saruman sleeves go from turned back about 6 inches at the wrist to
not turned at all by the floor.
Another note of Saruman's outer robe sleeves. If you've been looking at the
sleeve fabric trying to figure it out, it's the same as the cuffs of the
sleeves, except it's the fabric inside out. That textured look is from
washing dry clean only fabric..
Gandalf has something that looks more like heavy robe embroidery than trim,
but can't tell exactly. Gandalf's robe is split for riding. This too is
decorated with the tone on tone embroidery. (Actually, I think they were
dyed together.)
Something about the colors: Sharman's robes are all shades of cream and
dark tea. On screen they come out blinding white. Gandalf's robes are a
dirty brown, very knobby and textured. His hat is almost a white grey, soft
felt w/ no texture. On screen the robe comes out a nice warm grey. The hat
pic up a bit of blue and has more than enough texture since the felt
amplifies every bit of light around it's fuzzy exterior.
