<< You had said that you were going to see the movie again and
check out the sides of Aragorn's Rivendell outfit. Were you
able to tell if that velvet top piece was A-line cut, slit
at the sides or straight with gores? I was looking at the
picture on a friend's monitor (she has hers set to a large
resolution for her son's games)

and I noticed that just below his hands at the side, there
was shine. We couldn't tell if it was a drape of the velvet
or if it might actually be the split!>>

I've been rewinding and playing those few scenes over and over tonight and
the neckline on the velvet tunic looks 1. like it is made of a heavier
material and not velvet 2. heavily lined (it sits differently on him than the
rest of the outfit) and embroidered.

That shine you see is that velvet tunic split down the front. Under it there
is a material of the same or similar color to both the under diamond
patterned tunic and velvet tunic. It looks like a satin type material but is
most likely a well washed silk to make it drape and hang so well. That
stretch velvet shines very well in light. That one pic was too dark on my
monitor to be of much use:(

I don't think there are gores at all. I think it is just well fitted to his
body.

Now that I think about it, if that velvet tunic is slit down the front, it is
probably not slit down the sides as well. That would be very odd. I'm
guessing that the cut of the velvet is flaired a bit at the hips to give it a
fuller look where as above the waist it is very fitted to him.

<< I'm also curious, with the stretchiness of this fabric if
perhaps Dickson put in a wasit seam and added panels below.
She's done that before, and it might help with the stretch.
Opinions? >>

I can't see a waist seam and his belt with that outfit is too thin to be able
to hide it, I think. It's fairly easy to cut stretch velvet to fit you above
the waist and flair below it.

I REALLY hope this outfit is at FIDM next week!

Then our questions will be answered!
