SEEKING-
MOLLY: Female, White, 18-32. Molly is young and a bit spoiled. She is very smart
and used to getting her way. When mob violence forces her from her newly
acquired, first home, her husband insists that they abandon it for a safer haven
in the west. While intellectually Molly understands that her husband is simply
doing the best he can to protect her, emotionally, she blames him for her loss
and the unfairness of their situation. Part of this punishment consists of
insisting that they take as much of their belongings as possible. Molly is in a
bit of denial over the entire ordeal. When her husband dies, and she is required
to finish the journey alone, she comes to understand her own abilities,
self-worth, inner-strength and the love she shared with Jonathan while it
lasted. There is a triumphant and happy ending. Useful Skills: Endurance, lots
of walking shots and pulling a handcart, likes animals, wide range and layered
emotions.
JONATHAN: Male, White 18-32. Jonathan loves Molly and sees his husbandly role in
life to provide and protect her. He is continually frustrated by the fact that
she can't seem to settle down and trust him to do these things. He's an
intelligent man but works on the simple faith that God and hard work will win
out in the end; the fact that Molly can't see this is the biggest cause of his
feeling of distance in their relationship. When mob violence forces them from
their newly acquired, first home, Jonathan is pained at the amount of stuff
Molly insists they take with him. He does all he can to pull this over-burdened
load but it wounds his pride a little. He wants to just yell out to her, that
they could conquer the world together with nothing as long as they have each
other. Jonathan's greatest sadness is knowing he is dying and leaving Molly to
finish the journey alone. Being able to play (or fake playing) the violin a
must. Useful Skills: Endurance, lots of walking shots and pulling a handcart,
frustra! ted patience, musical sense (violin playing a bonus.).
MACAWI: Male, Native American, 18-45. Macawi is a Sioux brave minding his own
business, trapping his own food and enjoying life on the land of his fathers.
When a lone pioneer woman inadvertently steals a rabbit he has trapped, Macawi
thinks first about how he might teach her a lesson. As he observes her situation
he decides instead to scare her good and trade his catch for a lock of her hair.
We want the audience to ask, will he rape her? Will he abduct her? Will he kill
her? In the end he makes a trade but not for free. It is the pivotal suspense
scene in the film.
