NBC Gets Shaking on '10.5' Sequel

The team behind "10.5" has reassembled to once again disassemble the
North American continent.
Filming on "10.5: Apocalypse," the sequel to NBC's successful 2004
disaster miniseries, began last week in Montreal, with Kim Delaney,
Beau Bridges and David Cubitt reprising their roles and the same
behind-the-camera team in place as well. There's no official word on
an airdate yet, but given the start date, "Apocalypse" could possibly
be ready to go by November sweeps.

"We are shooting this sequel on digital, which is allowing us to
achieve a whole new level of visual effects and style that have
heretofore not been seen on network television," writer-director John
Lafia says. "Also, the actors flocking to the project is very
rewarding to me personally and shows their faith in the material."

In addition to the three returning cast members, "10.5: Apocalypse"
will also feature Frank Langella ("Unscripted," "Superman Returns"),
Carlos Bernard ("24"), Carly Pope ("Popular"), Garcelle Beauvais-
Nilon ("Eyes"), Dean Cain ("The Perfect Husband"), Melissa Sue
Anderson ("Little House on the Prairie," "Earthquake in New York")
and Barbara Eve Harris ("ER," "36 Hours to Die").

The sequel will pick up following the events of the first miniseries,
where a series of massive earthquakes laid ruin to much of the West
Coast. When seismic activity resumes, the president (Bridges) again
calls on maverick seismologist Samantha Hill (Delaney) to assess the
threat.

She comes up with a theory based on a long-discredited hypothesis of
her father's (Langella) which, if true, could wreak even more havoc.

The original "10.5," which aired in May 2004, was a hit for NBC,
averaging better than 20 million viewers over its two nights. Howard
Braunstein, Michael Jaffe and Gary Pearl, who executive produced the
miniseries, are serving in the same capacity for the sequel.

Kim Delaney 'loves Roxborough'
By: Mike Benigno 01/12/2005

The Emmy-awarded actress discusses her childhood memories of Our Town

She's Roxborough's finest.
Kim Delaney has acted in some of the most popular modern television
shows, and she's been in dozens of movies. But the path the actress
chose to walk on proved to have more twists than she said she ever
thought it would have.
Last week, Delaney spoke to The Review about where her acting career
has taken her.
The middle child and only girl surrounded by two younger brothers and
two older brothers, Delaney is the daughter of Jack and Joan Delaney,
and she grew up on a Roxborough street near Henry Ave. Her father
recently retired from his position as president of the United Auto
Workers union, and Delaney said her mother helped raise their five
children and held a city position for a time.
No member of her family had any experience in the acting field, and
while she was growing up she said she never had a tremendous desire
to be an actress.
Delaney attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School, and went on to
attend John W. Hallahan Girls' Catholic High School, where she was a
cheerleader and had an interest in modeling, but she said she was
never involved in any drama clubs or theater groups, or other school
activities.
"I was kind of quiet in high school," she said. "I didn't do much,
but I had a big family and hung out with them a lot."
"When I graduated, I really didn't know what to do," she said. "I
started modeling first in Philly, then and New York and would take
the train back and forth with a monthly ticket," she said. "I just
kind of did it," she said. "It was just like I came out of high
school and kept working."
In New York, she stayed at friends' apartments while taking modeling
jobs, until she found a place of her own about a year after
graduation.
"I was with Elite Agency, and one woman in a different department was
a talent agent. She wanted to get girls she thought could walk and
talk at the same time, and through her I started taking acting
classes. After that, I wanted to stay in acting, not modeling," she
said.
Her third audition was for Jenny Gardner on "All My Children," an ABC
soap opera filmed in New York, a role she went on to hold for three
years.
The role brought her to the daytime spotlight and led to a November
1982 cover story in Philadelphia Magazine, an accomplishment she
holds as one of her first major milestones.
In 1983, still in her early 20s, she received an Emmy Award
nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role in a Daytime
Drama Series for her work.
"It was a great first job, and everyone wanted me to stay. The people
were great, the character was great, and I got a lot of attention,"
Delaney said. "Still to this day people come up to me and say 'You're
Jenny!'"
After leaving "All My Children," Delaney landed a movie role and was
soon on the road filming. She spent time in Los Angeles during the
production of several movies, but she said she never planned on
moving to California.
"I never actually said I was moving to L.A.," she said. "It just kind
of happened." Delaney said she was able to sublet apartments in New
York and Los Angeles at first.
"My parents were supportive. They didn't like me this far away, and
they still don't. But the come out here and I go out there a lot."
Throughout the 1980s and early 90s, Delaney starred in over 22 movies
and a number of television series roles before landing a four episode
stint on the hit primetime show "NYPD Blue," playing the part of a
recovering-alcoholic detective, Diane Russell. Her part was extended
into a regular character on the show sharing the screen with actor
Jimmy Smits, and Delaney said things snowballed from there.
She stayed with the show for a total of seven seasons, and in 1997
she was nominated for and won the Emmy Award for Outstanding
Supporting Actress in a Drama for her work.
Delaney remembers Emmy night as a surreal experience. "I was actually
in the front row, and I remembered I got up when they called my name -
it was a delayed reaction. Jimmy [Smits] was sitting next to me and
I just walked up without even hugging or kissing him. All my family
was at home and I called them the second I got backstage."
Since then, she's taken more movie and television roles, including
the short-lived 2001 mini-series "Philly," which brought her back to
her hometown for a while. "It was great," Delaney said. "There was so
much support, and people still love it and ask about it. It was a
great show, but it just didn't happen."
In 2003, she worked on the NBC mini-series "10.5," which she plans to
do a sequel to in the future. "I don't have a favorite kind of
character to play, but I just really enjoy the experience of acting.
When it's good it's great, when it's bad it's not so great."
Her biggest accomplishment: "My son," she said. Jack, 14, was born
from Delaney's second marriage, to actor Joe Cortese. "I like doing
TV because it keeps me in town. During the school year I get home
most of the time for dinner."
Delaney said her son hasn't considered acting just yet; for now she
said he's interested in the same things other 14-year-olds are
interested in. "Right now he's into sports, basketball, and football.
He doesn't really talk about this business that much, he doesn't even
pay attention," she said. "His friends might, but I'm a mom to him."
She recalls the Manayunk of yesterday - "little shops and
restaurants, but not the way things are now."
But she said her heart lies with Roxborough. "I love Roxborough," she
said. "When I go back now, everything's a little bit changed but
certain things are the same. There will always be cars sliding down
snowy hills in the wintertime."
"Whenever newspapers ask me where I'm from, I try to always tell them
Roxborough," Delaney said.
She said she recalls The Review, and said that her brothers had
newspaper routes at a time, but she could not recall whether he was a
Review carrier.
The last time she was in Roxborough was in the fall for her brother
Patrick's wedding shower, and back in Philadelphia last month for the
wedding. While her parents have since moved to Ventnor, N.J., Patrick
lives in a home on the same block that the Delaney children grew up
on.
"I didn't really pay attention to this industry growing up, but I've
been very fortunate and have been working for a long time and have
been lucky with the choices I've made," she said.
Kim is scheduled to appear in five upcoming episodes of the
series "The O.C.," which is in its second season on FOX Thursday
nights. "I play Rebecca Bloom, kind of the love of Sandy's [Peter
Gallagher's character] life." She said her episodes, which were
filmed in December, are scheduled to air at the end of January and
into February.
When asked whether she thought her character would be expanded into a
larger role, Delaney said she had no idea. "You never know," she said.
"I would live back East in a second," she said. "I love Philly, but I
can't move anywhere yet. My son's in school," she laughed. "Maybe
when he's in college."

Delaney Lands Ex-Flame Gig on 'O.C.'

13 minutes ago Entertainment - Reuters TV

By Nellie Andreeva

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In two high-profile castings, Emmy-
winner Kim Delaney (news) and Teri Polo have landed key roles on
Fox's "The O.C." and NBC's "The West Wing," respectively.

On "The O.C.," which returns Thursday for its second season, Delaney
will play an ex-flame who reappears in character Sandy Cohen's (Peter
Gallagher (news)) life. She is slated to appear in at least five
episodes of the hot primetime soap.

Delaney most recently starred in NBC's top-rated earthquake-themed
miniseries "10.5" and is slated to return for a sequel. She won an
Emmy for her role as a detective in "NYPD Blue," and later starred in
her own short-lived cop drama "Philly

I didn't get a chance to comment on 10.5 after it aired originally in the US
because I've been so busy but I wanted to get my feelings on it out in the open.
I thought it was great. I saw both segments and thought it was a terrific show.
Kim did a fabulous job, the only thing I had sorta a negative opinion on was the
camera men/women. It's totally possible that they did it like they did
intentionally and I am stating the obvious but did anyone else notice how they
kept zooming in and out every 2 seconds? I was getting dizzy. The special
effects were really good though... props to the specialist(s) who conducted
them. All in all, good plot, great characters, and terrific performances by the
actors portraying them. on a scaleof 1-10... 10.5. LOL I am so silly, that's all
for now though... have a great week people!

Thanks for the info Dina, BTW, I think it is so cute that a lot of the times, or
sometimes at least, when Kim does Lifetime movies she chooses or gets cast as a
love interest who's been her love interest on a TV series. It's probably they
always work so well together, she's so adorable. Anyways, I saw the Infidelity
commercial on LMN and was so excited, I rewatched it liek 4 times. ;) Anyways,
this is going to make me sound so silly but for some reason when ya'all would
talk about Infidelity I thought it was a show she had been in before and it was
going to be on again, i didn't know it was brand new.I am so excited. I have
seen several promos for 10.5 too and am anxious to see that as well. Gotta

Infidelity (2004)
Danielle Montet (Delaney) listens to the marital problems of couples
all day long as a family therapist, but seems blind to the obvious
disaster-waiting-to-happen that threatens her own marriage to her
husband, Jim. Danielle is unfaithful and has been for most of her
married life. But as the third generation of philanderers in her
family, it would seem that she may have learned by example-from both
her father and her grandfather. In this film about the causes and
consequences of infidelity, Danielle must come to terms with and take
responsibility for her own behavior, or lose the one man in her life
who has been true and faithful.

STEALING THE SHOW

Louisiana turns the tables on Canada as producer moves movie project
to N.O.

Saturday January 31, 2004

By Stewart Yerton
Business writer

For years, motion picture industry workers in the United States
bemoaned the flow of projects to Canada, where tax incentives and a
favorable currency exchange rate have lured droves of movies,
television shows and commercials.

   From Our Advertiser

But Louisiana may have found a way to beat Canada at its own game.
Calling Louisiana's new incentive program approximately equal with
Canada's, the nation's largest independent motion picture producer
has moved a television movie project from Montreal to New Orleans.

Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. is teaming with Cairo/Simpson
Entertainment Inc. and the Louisiana Institute of Film Technology of
New Orleans to produce "Infidelity," a made-for-TV movie to be
broadcast on The Walt Disney Co.'s cable Lifetime Network in April.

Lions Gate and Cairo/Simpson originally planned to make the picture
in Montreal but moved it to New Orleans after hearing about
Louisiana's film incentives. Shooting began Thursday.

"We felt we could come here and do just as well financially as if we
shot in Montreal," said Judy Cairo, the project's executive
producer. "Louisiana has pretty much matched Canada's tax incentives,
so that's a huge draw."

Louisiana has enjoyed a surge in production since the Legislature
adopted a package of tax incentives in 2002.

Enhancing the attractiveness of Louisiana, the U.S. dollar has
dropped against the Canadian dollar as the state incentive program
has come into effect, thus reducing another advantage Canada has had
over U.S. locales. As the playing field leveled, major studios such
as Disney and 20th Century Fox, as well as monied independent
producers, brought a string of projects to Louisiana in 2003.

But the Lions Gate project marks something new: It is the first time
Louisiana has snared a picture that originally was slated to be made
in Canada, whose ability to lure projects has been a source of
frustration for actors, technical workers and others employed by the
U.S. motion picture industry. Although one television movie stolen
from Canada hardly signifies the end of producers taking film and
television jobs to Canada, executives and public officials said the
development is nonetheless noteworthy.

"I hate to sound sarcastic, but (Canada) came after us and they got
us, and now we're getting them back," said Stephanie Dupuy, director
of the New Orleans Office of Film and Video. "Now we're returning the
favor."

Susan Levitas, an independent film producer and vice president of the
New Orleans Film Festival, agreed. "We're finally getting a reverse
trend out of Canada," she said.

Pamm Fair, deputy national executive director for the Screen Actors
Guild in Los Angeles, which has been lobbying for state and federal
policy initiatives to stop the migration of projects to Canada, said
the relocation of "Infidelity" is "great news."

"Louisiana has a great initiative," Fair said, "and it's drawing
filmmakers. That's exactly what we want to do."

Network television movies, with typical budgets in the $3 million to
$5 million range, have been particularly vulnerable to Canada's draw,
Fair said.

As recently as late last year, Lions Gate was planning to shoot in
Montreal, Cairo said. But that began to change during the holidays.
At a party in Los Angeles, Cairo said, Judith Polone, another
executive producer on the project, heard about Louisiana's incentives
from producer Richard Fischoff, who at the time was preparing to come
to New Orleans to shoot a television movie for The Disney Channel.

Intrigued, the Lions Gate producers called the state's former film
commissioner, Mark Smith, who put them in touch with the Louisiana
Institute of Film Technology, Cairo said. Founded in 2002 by John
Anderson and Malcolm Petal, LIFT provides production services and
equipment and links out-of-state producers with local tax-credit
investors.

By late December, Lions Gate had approved the project for New
Orleans, and Cairo was setting up offices at LIFT's studio in
Elmwood.

Lions Gate is the second out-of-town production company that LIFT has
inked a deal with. The local start-up also has embarked on a
multiproject venture with HSI Productions Inc. of Los Angeles, a
producer of television commercials and music videos that recently
launched a feature film division. One of HSI/LIFT's first New Orleans
projects, a teen comedy called "Home of Phobia," was screened earlier
this month at the Sundance Film Festival.

Lions Gate represents an even bigger partner for LIFT. Headquartered
in Vancouver with offices in Montreal, Toronto and Los Angeles, Lions
Gate is a leading independent production and distribution company,
considered a "mini-major" in industry parlance. In December, the
company acquired Artisan Entertainment, another major independent, to
form the nation's largest independent studio not owned by a large
media conglomerate. The company's slate for 2004 includes films
starring A-list actors such as Robert de Niro and Nicole Kidman.

Lions Gate Television, which accounted for about a fifth of the
company's $302 million in revenue in its latest fiscal year, produces
the USA Network series "The Dead Zone" and the Lifetime Network
series "1-800-Missing." The division also has a series of movie
projects in the pipeline for Lifetime, which could prove good news
for Louisiana.

"A Lions Gate executive told me, 'If this works, . . . get used to
seeing us a lot more,' " said Smith, the state's former film
commissioner, who is now general counsel for Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu.

Beyond financial benefits, Cairo said, New Orleans also offers
artistic ones.

Directors making movies in Canada often have to disguise Canadian
locales to look like U.S. cities. In "Infidelity," for instance,
Montreal would have posed for Manhattan. After moving the project,
writers edited the script, and the story is now set in New Orleans,
which can simply be shot as itself, Cairo said.

"The advantage of New Orleans is we can set the film in New Orleans,"
she said.

In addition, Louisiana's temperate climate means producers and actors
won't have to contend with "three feet of snow," as they would in
Montreal, she said.

In the movie, Kim Delaney plays a psychologist who explores the
psychological origins of her own philandering. The movie also stars
Kyle Secor and Cristian de la Fuente. Harry Winer will direct.

The project will employ an estimated 100 local cast and crew
personnel, said John Anderson, president of LIFT. In addition to
shooting, producers will do some postproduction work, including film
editing, in New Orleans, Anderson said.

Cairo said she's already gotten calls from three or four other Los
Angeles producers wanting to know more about Louisiana's system.
Cairo's only concern so far, she said, is that the other producers
will swoop in and tie up the region's limited crew and equipment for
their own projects in the future.

"The only thing I'm worried about is sharing the wealth," Cairo
said. "It's almost like you don't want to tell someone about your
favorite fishing hole."
