A compelling look at a flawed system, critics loved AFTER INNOCENCE.
A series of interviews with people wrongfully convicted and put on
death row for years. The movie is both sad, and compelling. The
director largely lets the accused do the talking. The MOST
FASCINATING MOVIE to come out this year.
THE WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN is an unsurprising old age against all odds
champion movie staring Anthony Hopkins. The true story about a New
Zealander breaking land speed records has some slow points but is an
overall CROWD PLEASER. Most reviewers liked it. Simple fun with very
good acting.
The tense thriller CACHE is a film about a modern Parisian family
being harassed by an unknown assailant. Somewhat Hitchcockien, the
film has a free moving camera, as the director documents the
unraveling of a family under great duress. Most reviews really liked
the film and the fact that their CAGES WERE RATTLED, but most did not
like the loose ends.
A lightweight date movie SOMETHING NEW could get FEW REVIEWERS
EXCITED. A romantic comedy about an accomplished black woman and a
white architect trying to create a relationship in the midst of
professional racism. Some found it too focused on black women as its
audience, others found it a good comment on the current racial
climate.
