MOVIE REVIEW FOR "FAHRENHEIT 9/11" STARRING MICHAEL MOORE

Michael Moore and controversy go together like peanut butter and jelly -- one is
not nearly as good without the other. In "Roger & Me", the controversy was
minimal; it was more about tackling big business and showing the devestation of
Flint, Michigan. In "Bowling for Columbine", the controversy was at an all-time
high as Moore tackled the gun industry and went to great lengths to show how
violent American culture is compared to the rest of the world. With "Fahrenheit
9/11", Moore bypasses big business and the gun industry -- he sets his sights on
one person -- the most powerful person in the world...George W. Bush, the
President of the United States of America. Why? Who else would make a better
subject?

What Moore attempts to do --and succeeds at -- is connect George W. Bush and his
father to the Saudi Arabians, and show how they looked out for nothing but their
own interests during the events surrounding and following 9/11. Moore shows how
documents were doctored and how countless members of the Bin Laden family were
flown out of the United States immediately after 9/11, without ever being
questioned about the incident. The film also shows what affect the War in Iraq
has had on the United States, the most poignant and heartbreaking affect being
the one we see on a mother who loses her son in battle. Towards the end of the
film, we watch as the mother bravely walks towards the White House, being
harassed by political activists. But the biggest emotional jerk comes when the
same mother sits in her livingroom reading a letter written by her deceased son.

This film is an all out attack on George W. Bush and I absolutely loved it. I
have never been a George W. Bush fan and I wouldn't shed a single tear if he
just up and disappeared somewhere. Watching him sit in the classroom on the day
of the 9/11 attacks, bewildered, reading a children's book while the rest of the
country is in a panic -- that shows the kind of leadership he is capable of.
Watching him say on countless occasions that we are going to Iraq to liberate
the Iraqi people, when that was the last thing on our minds -- that shows how
much 'integrity' he has restored to the White House. From beginning to end,
this film picks apart the lies that George W. Bush has bestowed upon the
American people, and it does so with the same flair that Michael Moore so
skillfully places in all of his documentaries.

I liked how Michael Moore kept himself out of this picture. In both "Roger &
Me" and "Bowling for Columbine", Moore is the central character. He is involved
in almost all of the significant scenes. However, in "Fahrenheit 9/11", Moore
lets the visual images and the music do the talking for him. Some of the images
are more violent than any others we have seen in a Moore documentary and I think
those images help illustrate the ferocity associated with war and the
senselessness of violence in any capacity. This film is not just a slam on
President Bush, but also an anti-war film of epic proportions. Michael Moore
has delivered yet another powerful masterpiece, and do not be surprised if he
takes home his second Oscar for Best Documentary.
