Our film JOHN & JANE is finally releasing in Indian cinemas this week. After
being distributed internationally by HBO Films last year, we are thrilled to
finally have it on the big screen in Mumbai as part of NFDC's "Cinemas of India"
distribution program.
In case you haven't seen it, the film will be showing at PVR Juhu starting June
6th onward (8pm every evening). This is a limited engagement only, so please do
book your tickets in advance through the PVR website or at the theaters, or try
your luck in person.
To those not familiar with JOHN & JANE, it's a film that follows the real life
stories of six young call agents that answer American 1-800 numbers in a Mumbai
call center. A mini-review is below. It won a National Award and a European
Media Award last year, and has been screened at Toronto, Berlin and other major
festivals. If you have been waiting for new forms of cinema, JOHN & JANE should
restore your faith in the medium.
If you know others who may be interested, please pass this on.
See you there!

Review from SALON magazine
Plenty of informative documentaries air every day, but few could be considered
true works of art. "John & Jane" is that rare documentary that captures its
subject -- workers at a call center in Mumbai (Bombay), India -- with a lyrical,
haunting combination of striking images, ambient sounds and first-person
accounts. In exploring the stories of a handful of 1-800 operators who provide
customer service and telemarketing to Americans, the filmmakers transform the
workers' hopes and disappointments into a sort of visual poetry. One worker
hates his job and wants to be a model. Another listens to self-empowerment tapes
whenever he's not working and announces that he plans to be a billionaire some
day. Each story unfolds patiently, rich with heartbreaking details. Ranging from
unspeakably sad to sweet, "John & Jane" is an unforgettable film that you
shouldn't miss.
