Dear Cinematographers,

I received the following message from Matthias Maasz, Institute for
Applied Research - IAF, Stuttgart Media University, Stuttgart
Germany about a research Project:-

Dear Directors of Photography in India

I would like to inform you about a research project regarding an
important subject for Directors of Photography and would be very
happy,if you could translate this information into your language and
forward it to your members and to your national press.

Press Release:

The Change of Image Capturing Formats in Motion Pictures is the
subject of a survey, that started at the Stuttgart Media University
(Hochschule der Medien) in Germany on March 15th, 2008. It is directed
by Matthias Maasz within the framework of the Institute for Applied
Research - IAF and should be completed on June 30th, 2008. Aim of the
survey is the quantitative acquisition and the detailed documentation
of the practices applied in the production of motion pictures in the
age of the "digital revolution".
By definition all Directors of Photography of Motion Pictures from all
over the world, who have had a theatrical release in Germany in the
years between 1997 and 2007 are invited to participate. Distributors
in Germany released 3425 Motion Pictures originating in more than 80
countries in this period. The film database of the Entertainment Media
Publishing GmbH in Munich, Germany has been taken as a basis for this
poll.

For practical reasons we couldn't consider any European, or even
worldwide theatrical release by definiton, but all Directors of
Photography of motion pictures outside this definition e.g. if the
film had a theatrical release in any other country, but not in Germany
- or will have a theatrical release only in 2008 or later are kindly
invited to take part in this survey by visiting www.filmformat.eu

After completing the first phase of contact with the Cinematographers
in the German language countries, the second phase, contacting the
rest of the 1538 Directors of Photography started on April 9th.
Imago, the European Federation of Cinematographers is a partner of
this survey project, helping to supply the neccessary contact data.
However there are many non-organized Directors of Photography that are
invited to take part by visiting the webpages at www.filmformat.eu .
Further co-operation partners are the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek in
Berlin and the Institute for Literature-, Art- and Media Studies at
the University of Konstanz, Germany.
