I am subject to excessive introspection. I have often wondered if a
certain phase in my life influenced my fanaticism about Isthar. Some
of the parallels are striking. Read (and listen) for yourself if you
wish at www.soundclick.com/thecringeworthies.
I would like to think that as a musician and songwriter I've grown
(more current stuff at www.soundclick.com/bureaucratica) can be
referenced for comparison/contrast.
I like to think that Chuck and Lyle grew too over time. Perhaps it's
lucky in a way that Ishtar wasn't popular. What if they'd made a TV
series out of it, like the Odd Couple? Poor Felix and Oscar, stuck in
that apartment together for years. Surely a hell far, far worse than
a video store with nothing but Ishtar on the shelves.
Paul Williams thinks that Ishtar is popular among musicians, and I
think he's right.... there are a number of them here on this list.
Between Ishtar and Spinal Tap, the totality of life in a band (or a
duo) is pretty much covered.
I know there are several musicians on this list, I'd love to hear
about your experiences.
