'HOUSE' GUEST
By MICHAEL STARR
April 6, 2005 -- SULTRY Sela Ward is about to make a "House" call that
will rock the world of cranky Dr. Greg House.
Ward will guest-star on this season's final two episodes as the ex-lover
of snarky House (Hugh Laurie) â€" and her sudden appearance at the
hospital rekindles old feelings between the two.
"When we came up with the idea, we knew we wanted someone who could go
toe-to-toe with House â€" and Sela's name was the first we came up
with," "House"
creator David Shore told The Post.
"She's an attorney that House was involved with previously, prior to his
injury," says Shore.
(House walks with a cane because of a bum leg and pops pills to ease his
pain.)
"She's moved on with her life and remarried and has discovered that
there's something wrong with her husband, who she's convinced is dying.
"So she goes to the last man on earth she wants to go to â€" but for
all House's foibles, she knows this is what he does best," Shore says.
On the show, the perpetually irritated House has trouble dealing with
people and possesses absolutely no bedside manner â€" but is
brilliant in diagnosing and curing mysterious ailments.
Shore says that with the appearance of his ex-lover, viewers will see a
different side of House, about whom very little is known. "They had a
tempestuous, passionate relationship and . . . we see what was good
about their relationship, and we see the sparks happening again," Shore
says.
"We're going to get a glimpse at their back story, and we'll learn a
little bit more about House and about how [his leg injury] happened,"
Shore says. "And now House is put in a position where he has to save the
life of the husband of the woman he loved."
Ward's story will carry over into next season â€" "She's under
contract for a bunch of episodes," Shore said â€" and represents the
latest feather in "House's" cap.
The show has been averaging 18 million viewers airing after "American
Idol," with viewership growing steadily week-by-week.
