It's a free Wordpress template. This one, I think:

Doesn't do it for me either, but Wordpress templates can be fantastic. But
the best ones are custom made ones. I've made several lately.

The good news is that it's easy to change it to another if he decides to use
another - either a custom made or a stock one like the one he has now.

The back end doesn't change, only the design.
