Hello everyone.
Kindly advise please.
I have a dear friend that is direct to funding sources.
I was asked to advise this person.
The problem:
While this person might be direct to sources these investors will not sign an
agreement for compensation.
While this person might be direct to a few significant projects the principles
do not wish to sign NDNC.
In addition there is not a willingness on there part to have an agreement for
compensation/credit/back end participation.
The way I see it:
This persons investors want to look at projects, but will not protect this
person thus leaving the responsibility to this person to have a deal in place
before presenting potential opportunity's to said investors.
My take:
Hollywood leverage will not allow for this person to benefit from the
connections that were developed through hard work.
If your going to be asked what is your track record.
If your going to be called a finder etc. Why bother.
In my estimation if I was direct to funding sources I would be deserving of
realizing a percentage of funds I bring to the project/On screen credit/Back end
profit sharing participation.
In my estimation this should be in the form of an iron clad contract.
My advice would be to walk away from the business especially since this person
has been cut out of deals before.
To all you professionals that's has had your films funded and did well at the
box.
To all you professionals that have made direct investments in films.
What should I tell this person?
Thanks
