The 15th Annual Austin Film Festival Screenplay and Teleplay Competitions
Deadline is approaching. The Screenplay Categories are Drama (Historical,
Western, Family, Romance, Horror, Thriller, etc.) and Comedy (Slapstick, Dark
Comedy, Satirical, etc.). Each category awards the winners $5,000 and hotel and
air reimbursement (up to $500 each) along with the Bronze AFF Typewriter Award.

Two sub-categories offer prizes of their own. The Latitude Productions award is
open to adult themed, character driven drama or comedy scripts with an estimated
budget of $10 million dollars or less and the Sci-Fi award, awarded to the best
screenplay within science fiction, horror, super-natural thriller, fantasy etc.

In order to be considered for these prizes you must be entered in either the
Drama or Comedy Screenplay categories. The winners of these awards receive
$2,500 in addition to reimbursement for airfare and hotel (up to $500) for
attendance to the festival, and the Bronze AFF Typewriter Award. The Teleplay
Competition is open to any spec script from a currently airing network or cable
TV show. Entrants can submit their scripts in either the Drama or Sitcom
category. Each category awards winners $1,000 along with the reimbursements and
the Bronze AFF Typewriter award.

Attending the festival has proved very beneficial for Scott Richter (2007 Drama
Teleplay Winner) and Jimmy Miller (2007 Adult/Family Winner). Since winning
Scott Richter has met with renowned TV producers such as Greg Berlanti, Anthony
Zuiker and Bruce Cohen, as well as with top agencies, including CAA and ICM. His
new procedural crime drama pilot Erased is creating quite a buzz in the
industry. Director Will Bigham (winner of Fox TV's On the Lot competition) is
pitching Erased to Dreamworks TV. Palm Canyon, a law school dramedy pilot, the
pitch which landed Richter in the finalist honors at AFF's 2007 pitch
competition is being pursued as a feature by Terry Rossio (a judge in the
qualifying round at AFF 2007).

Jimmy Miller, who won for his screenplay Slugger, is managed by Josh McGuire of
Washington Square Arts.  At the 2007 festival he met Gayla Nethercott of Don
Buchwald & Associates and she signed on as his agent.  He also met Mary Stuart
Masterson who was screening her film Cake Eaters at AFF.  Jimmy and Mary Stuart
met and knew that Slugger was a perfect project for them to work on together. 
Jimmy is currently working on a rewrite and has been in negotiations with Mary
Stuart to direct Slugger.  They continue to work closely to develop the project.

The Screenplay Late Postmarked Deadline is June 1,2008 with a $50 entry fee. The
Teleplay Postmarked Deadline is June 1, 2008 with a $30 entry fee. The 15th
Annual Austin Film Festival with be held October 16 – 23, 2008.

AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL SCREENPLAY, TELEPLAY AND FILM COMPETITIONS CALL
FOR ENTRIES:
Austin Film Festival is now accepting entries for the 2008 Screenplay
and Teleplay Competitions. Categories include Drama and Comedy, each
with a cash prize of $5000. You may also choose to have your script
considered for the Latitude and Sci-Fi Awards, each with a cash prize

Semifinalist and finalist scripts are judged by production company
representatives, who have in the past included representatives from
The Donners' Company, Village Roadshow Pictures, Saturn Films,
Whitelight Entertainment, Fortis Films, Liveplanet, Protozoa Pictures,
Nickelodeon Movies, Focus Features, Fox Broadcasting, and WB.

The early screenplay deadline is May 15th and the late deadline and
Teleplay deadline is June 1st.

We are also happy to announce we are open for film entries for the
2008 festival. Last year AFF screened over 175 films and looks to keep
growing this year!  Films screen in a variety of sections and in six
competitive categories: Narrative Feature, Narrative Short, Narrative
Student Short, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short, Animated Short.
The early deadline is June 5th and the late deadline is July 5th.
