Yes but you honestly can't compare the Gelflings waging war to protect
themselves from certain distruction against the Garthim to the horrible
things we do. The Gelflings really had to be pushed before they would
resort to war. That's why they initially had no army and no weapons it
wasn't until they decided to stay a fight. They had no need for an
army they had no real conflicts with each other. Gelflings never
killed one another the way we do.
This reminds me of the George Carlin routine on colonizing space. "If
we do meet up with some other sentient species what are they gonna
think the first time they see a teenaged mother throwing her newborn
baby into a dumpster.. And how are we gonna explain it to the
intergalactic council that our ambassador was only late because his
breakfast was a little cold so he had to spend the next half hour
punching his wife around the kitchen.. And wait until they learn that
it just happens to be a local custom here on Earth that in the third
world women get their clitoris forcibly removed so they will have no
sexual desire to cheat on their man when they get older.. Boy won't the
rest of the universe just want to roll out the red carpet for us!"
