MELROSE PLACE "Ocean" Episode 9 - After learning Auggie’s (Colin Egglesfield) blood was on Sydney’s (Laura Leighton) murder weapon, the police search his apartment and demand the other residents tell them where he went. Meanwhile, a work incident causes Jonah to pretend he’s engaged to Ella (Katie Cassidy) who really gets into the role playing. David (Shaun Sipos) arranges a secret play date with his little brother Noah (guest star Cameron Castaneda) but after the little boy hurts himself, Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen) must come to the rescue and risk the wrath of Dr. Mancini (Thomas Calabro). VIDEO: New MELROSE PLACE Clip Reveals Sydney's Killer?
The clip doesn't exactly prove anything except that Auggie is the next to be penned a primary suspect. While it would make sense considering Colin Egglesfield is set to depart the show very soon, it seems far too obvious and the writers have worked far too hard to keep the viewers guessing to make the killer's identity such a no-brainer

Idea for those who want to create a video... If you own a Shout Out T-shirt
spell out "Cast Colin" on it or something similar and wear it in your video.

Korbi has now launched the first stage of the fan campaign:

This weekend, still a bit shocked by the news that "Melrose Place" is dropping Colin Egglesfield (Auggie) from its roster, I ran into several fans of the show who were feeling similarly.

Even series star Michael Rady (Jonah) -- whom I saw at an Ed Westwick-hosted event for artist Todd DiCiucio's Heartstrings exhibition -- was surprised and saddened by the producers' decision to write Egglesfield out.

"I can't believe they're letting the good-looking, chiseled guy go," he said. "That's like getting rid of Grant Show in the first season."

Agreed, Mr. Rady. Agreed.

But "Melrose Place"'s loss will be another series' gain.

Can we get Colin cast on another show asap?

Some of the suggestions I've heard over the past few days?

-Carter who? Colin should swoop in to take Serena's mind off that Basin boy on "Gossip Girl"
-Let's see him in some sort of futuristic/sci fi series, like "V" on ABC
-Colin has "Grey's Anatomy" guest star arc written all over him

Thoughts?

We want to hear your genius ideas.

Show your support for Colin by writing in the comments section of [Korbi's] post.

And if you want to put your face on this campaign, upload a short video to YouTube including "Cast Colin Egglesfield" in the title and key words, email the link to me [Korbi] at kghosh@... and [she'll] add it to the site.

Sound like a plan?

Good.

Go team.

Be sure to show your support for Colin by visiting Korbi's post and leaving your comments/ideas  here , and/or create your own video following the directions above ;).

Melrose Place, Colin Egglesfield, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz Patrick Wymore/The CW
Man, life is rough.

One day you're happy as a clam, working as a castmember on a prime-time network drama, and the next day someone's feeding you a line about changes in your show's "tone" and shuffling you off to Buffalo.

That's what just happened to departing Melrose Place star Colin Egglesfield, who sums up his roller-coaster Thursday this way: "I've had better days, to be quite honest."

We just spoke to Colin exclusively to find out why he's being pushed out of the show, not to mention where Auggie fits into the show's big murder mystery, and despite what you may have theorized, Auggie's not getting killed off, and despite what you may have been told, this exit was not planned from the beginning: "[They said it] was a network decision and obviously the ratings aren't what they need or want them to be, so they're going to try things to shake things up."

So what really happened today, and what's going to happen next on Melrose Place? Here's what we learned from Colin:

Melrose Place, Colin Egglesfield Jaimie Trublood/The CW
You were initially hired to be an ongoing series regular on Melrose Place, right?

Yes, definitely. I was slated to be in 10 of the 13 first episodes, but I had a multiyear contract.

What happened to change that? How did you learn they weren't going forward with you and your character?

I got the call this morning from our producers, Todd [Slavkin] and Darren [Swimmer]. They were really saddened, and you could tell it was difficult for them to break this news to me. They said it was a network decision, and they said the network thought Auggie was a little too dark, with his alcoholism. They felt like in the landscape of Melrose they wanted to change the tone of the show. So that's the explanation that they gave me.

And this morning was the first you'd heard of it?

They said that it wasn't anything against me or my talent or anything. There was never any discussion that they weren't sure what they were going to do with me or my character. And it wasn't like I was getting in fights with crew members or punching people out.

It's an odd decision, because we just did a poll yesterday about favorite Melrose Place characters that aren't Ella, and Auggie was the winner.

That's the thing—I don't know. It's kind of crazy. It's like, how?! Why?! I'm not spending too much time thinking about it, because it'll just drive you crazy, if you try to figure something out that you're never going to figure out. I'm just focusing on [other stuff]. I've already got a bunch of auditions lined up.

Was your agent or manager told anything else or anything different about what happened?

No, that's what they were told as well: that it was a network decision and obviously the ratings aren't what they need or want them to be, so they're going to try things to shake things up, but why they chose this, I don't know.

Story-wise, there's the murder mystery, although I could have sworn we already absolved Auggie of killing Sydney Andrews. Is this a twist thing? Are you the killer of Sydney Andrews who must be punished?

The way in which I'm leaving the show, I'm not being killed off, I'm just leaving. It keeps the door open for, potentially, my character to come back, but who knows?

Based on what we've seen so far, Auggie's feelings for Riley and his mentorship of Violet are his main storylines—do those continue or does Auggie turn in another direction?

Auggie's relationship with Riley (Jessica Lucas) comes to a head next week. She feels like hanging out with me puts too much pressure on her relationship with Jonah (Michael Rady), so that makes me upset. And then something happens at work where I get in this fight with Marchello, the head chef, my boss. So, a relationship with a girl that I am in love with isn't working out, and my career is not working out, and the only other thing Auggie has is his alcohol, so we see Auggie face the decision of whether or not to hit the bottle again. And, of course, Violet (Ashlee Simpson-Wentz) is in the mix. She always seems to creep up, you know, in all the different weird places—and she does that here, too. So there's a lot of really cool stuff coming up.

Are you done with the show for now, or are you still in the middle of production?
I'm shooting one more episode, and we start shooting that on Monday.

Do you have anything you want to say as a farewell to the fans and the people you've worked with?

Todd and Darren are great, I love those guys and they've always been straightforward and straight shooters and just great people to work with. I respect the decision that they had to make creatively to do what they need to do—I'm just frustrated that I'm not going to be a part of the show, because it was such a great job and a fun place to go to work every day. I'm disappointed to be leaving because I became really good friends with not only the cast of Melrose Place but many of the crew as well, so that's sad, to not be able to go see them at work. But hey, I'm still friends with them, and I'd just like to say to everyone out there who's been watching and supporting, thanks from the bottom of my heart, because this is something that I love to do.

So what do you think, kiddos? Did the network slaughter the right sacrificial lamb in their attempt to appease the TV gods and redeem Melrose Place? Could they have done something different or better with Colin's character? Are you feeling better or worse about M.P. right now?

Oh what a nice interview.  Honest and direct.  When Colin leaves the role as Auggie and if the show is still on the air I stop watching.  I don't think his character is too dark - how about the guy with the trust fund who steals that is worse than someone recovering from alcoholism.  My point of view - they are making a big mistake.  Colin will shine in another roll soon I know for sure.  Hang in there Colin I know things will take a turn for the better.

The way in which I'm leaving the show, I'm not being killed off, I'm just leaving. It keeps the door open for, potentially, my character to come back, but who knows?

Based on what we've seen so far, Auggie's feelings for Riley and his mentorship of Violet are his main storylinesdo those continue or does Auggie turn in another direction?
She always seems to creep up, you know, in all the different weird placesand she does that here, too.

I respect the decision that they had to make creatively to do what they need to do, I'm just frustrated that I'm not going to be a part of the show, because it was such a great job and a fun place to go to work every day.

So, what do you think, kiddos? Did the network slaughter the right sacrificial lamb in their attempt to appease the TV gods and redeem Melrose Place? Could they have done something different or better with Colin's character? Are you feeling better or worse about M.P. right now?

Two months into its run, The CW’s ratings-challenged (but creatively-smokin’) Melrose Place reboot is about to undergo a major renovation. For starters, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield have been let go (they’ll last air in January), and the “Who Killed Sydney?” mystery is being wrapped up in December. Then, in addition to Heather Locklear’s Amanda, several new characters will be introduced and the show will take on a lighter, more fun vibe. Here, in an exclusive interview, exec producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer explain why they’re fixing a series that many (myself included) felt wasn’t broken and tease what’s ahead for Melrose 2.0 3.0.

What was behind the decision to let Ashlee and Colin go?

TODD SLAVKIN:
Well, we always knew that this murder mystery would end in episode 12. And we always knew that [Ashlee's] character of Violet would be instrumental in that as a suspect, and [Colin's character of] Augie as well. And once that murder mystery was solved, she would go on her way. That was the original plan going into the development of the show.

So it was always the plan for Ashlee to leave after episode 12?

SLAVKIN:
Yes. Because we felt that once the murder mystery was resolved, the tone of the show was going to shift into a much more fun, romantic, sexy upbeat kind of show, and [her] character would move on.

Same thing with Colin?

SLAVKIN:
Colin was always meant to be the ultimate suspect. And his brooding alcoholic [character] tonally didn’t fit the paradigm moving into post-murder mystery Melrose Place.

Is it fair to say that if either of those characters clicked you would’ve found a way to keep them?

SLAVKIN:
Well, you never know when you go along. But in the end, we felt like it was right [decision].

DARREN SWIMMER: The nature of soaps is that as things progress along, the story takes on a life of its own and the characters come and go in relation to that.

How did Ashlee and Colin take the news?

SLAVKIN:
They’re total professionals and they took it like professionals. When you go into a show you never know what’s going to evolve and what the possibilities are. But because they knew ahead of time [that leaving was a possibility], it wasn’t a complete shock.

People are going to look at these changes and assume it’s a direct result of the show’s disappointing ratings.

SLAVKIN:
Well, I understand that perspective. None of us foresaw the ratings; there’s nothing we can do about that. All we can do is write and produce the best show we know how. It’s fine to speculate, but in the end there was always a plan.

What about Laura Leighton and Thomas Calabro? Are they leaving, too?

SLAVKIN:
Thomas is very much a part of the fabric of this show. Many storylines are ahead for him. You’ll get to see him interact with his old friend Amanda Woodward as well as all the characters on our show. With Laura, we would never close the door officially. She did her part in the murder mystery. We love her. We think she is gorgeous and a great actress and would love to have her be involved in the future, but there is no plan at the moment.

Can you elaborate on the tonal shift?

SLAVKIN:
Now that the characters are no longer suspects, they can have a great time, they can focus on their careers, they can get into bed with each other without having this ominous cloud hanging over the building… But this is still Melrose Place. There’s still going to be intrigue on the show.

Do you think viewers were turned off by the dark nature of the show?

SWIMMER:
Who knows why the ratings aren’t better? I think for us, it’s just a matter of moving on in the direction we [always] wanted to go.

Some people might wonder why you’re fixing what’s not broken. Personally, I love the show.

SLAVKIN:
Which we understand and I totally get that. I think our feeling is that TV shows need to evolve. Mike, you’re a fan of Smallville. You’ve watched that show and you’ve seen the evolution in that show. Characters come and go. This being much more of a soap opera, we feel that it’s heated up more rapidly, where characters come and go and have arcs and move on. There will be new characters coming in.

Tell me about those new characters.

SLAVKIN:
There’s a doctor, a new resident at the hospital who is irreverent and funny and will mix it up and move into the building. He will be a roommate of one of the characters and interact with Lauren. He’s a guy that, even though he’s a doctor, he doesn’t take life very seriously. Medicine can be very fun as well as serious to him and he ends up lightening up Lauren. We think this guy’s a lot of fun and is going to mix it up in a great way with the rest of the cast.

Has the role been cast?

SLAVKIN:
Not yet.

Any other new characters?

SWIMMER:
We have [Heather Locklear's] new love interest played by Billy Campbell. He has a three-episode arc. He plays basically a billionaire version of Jonah. He’s the equivalent of a Mark Cuban. Again, a lot of fun, funny, irreverent, and is someone who can actually make Amanda Woodward smile.

How long do you have Heather for?

SLAVKIN:
A long time. She’s in every episode moving forward. She’s a major focus [of the show]. She has a hidden agenda that will become not so hidden as the episodes move along. She’s not just the boss of Ella [Katie Cassidy].

Does Heather still have it?

SLAVKIN:
Absolutely. Not only is she so fun as Amanda, but she’s such an amazing, hysterical woman. Her [return] is going to be a big moment on Melrose Place.

The show has pulled underwhelming ratings since its inception. The CW may be hoping ratings will pick up with the arrival of Heather Locklear, who is joining the show in November. The network also picked up THE VAMPIRE DIARIES for a full season.

Hey Everyone,
I was just reading "The Suds Report" and seen that someone has started up an on line petition trying to get the PTB to see just how the fans feel about "CHUCK". I've signed the petition and i urge you all to do the same, here is what the maker of this on line petition has to say....

All My Children fans:

I would like to point your attention to a pressing issue faced by many devoted All My Children fans. That issue is Charles (a.k.a. Chuck) Pratt Jr.

This petition will hopefully show ABC the mistake they made that forever changed the beloved soap, All My Children on August 27, 2008. That mistake is the hiring of American televisionwriter, producer and director, Charles Pratt Jr. He was hired to be the Head Writer and Consulting Producer of All My Children.

Chuck Pratt Jr. has worked on numerous shows and contributed to their downfall.*

Ever since, he has been blaming storylines that backfired on the actors (http://daytimeconf idential. com/2009/ 04/amcs-chuck- pratt-blames- rianca-story- bomb-on-riegels- exit), writing characters into a corner that there is no way out of, and basically ruining our show. Over the past months, he has taken characters that we grew up with and turned them into people we no longer recognize. He has turned our leading males into misogynistic men we can no longer stand. Unliked characters and storylines are being shoved down our throats, and veterans are being written off, or even worse, killed left and right. His writing has forced actors to leave the show, because they can no longer accept how their character is being written. An impending death, and conversations with other fans has forced me to make this petition. All My Children has been on the air for nearly 40 years. Almost everyone who has watched this show has grown up with it, they've grown up with Erica, Ruth, Joe, Myrtle, Phoebe, Mona, and many others. Unlike the majority of AMCviewers, I have been watching since early 2003, but over these past six years I have seen this show change dramatically. People that are close to me have been watching since the beginning. We would hate to see our show completely destroyed, even though it is well on its way.

"Nothing undermines creative integrity like making characters act out of character just for the sake of advancing plot." Entertainment Weekly.
Unfortunately Charles Pratt Jr. has committed this sin numerous times since August 27, 2008.

For me, watching soaps are is a time when I can get away from normal life, and peek into the lives of the residents of Pine Valley, Llanview, Genoa City, Springfield, Oakdale, among others.

I just hope that people take this petition very seriously. Feel free to contact me for any reason. Both good and bad!

Thanks for reading and signing!

Watched a episode last night of Melrose and it is so good.  The girl who plays Syndeys daughter is good - guess she is Ashley Simpson and from earlier posts I think she is smitten by Colin.  Who could blame the girl his is so handsome - just looking at the picture below would melt anyone.

Apparently, Star magazine isn't satisfied with the romantic intrigue actually ON "Melrose Place," because it's fueling rumors of behind-the-scenes flirtations between co-stars Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield.

According to the tab's piece titled, "Ashlee Crushing on Melrose Costar," "an overly flirty" Simpson-Wentz "got touchy-feely with Colin between scenes on Sept. 23." We hate to "crush" this crush story, but a source close to Simpson-Wentz tells Gossip Cop, "It's not true."

MELROSE PLACE "Vine" Episode 4 - Jane Mancini (guest star Josie Bissett), Sydney’s (Laura Leighton) sister, comes to Melrose Place and announces that she inherited the building from Sydney. Jane threatens to show incriminating emails Ella (Katie Cassidy) sent to Syndey to the police unless Ella allows her to dress one of her up-and-coming clients for a movie premiere in a Jane Mancini original design. Desperate, Ella turns to David (Shaun Sipos) for help. Detective Rodriguez (guest star Nicholas Gonzalez) shows up at Violet’s (Ashlee Simpson-Wentz) apartment asking questions about her connection to Sydney, but she flees though the window. Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen) meets a John (guest star Sam Page) at the hotel bar after being stood up by Toby (guest star Adam Kaufman) and decides to take her new side job to the next level. However, upon leaving the hotel, Lauren is stopped by Wendi (guest star Kelly Carlson), a madam who has a deal with the hotel, who threatens Lauren if she ever sees her in there again.

Fred Toye directed the episode written by Daniel Thomsen Dries.
