Re: Need suggestions

Light layers, so you can mix and match and peel off layers if you get hot.
Linen, cotton, silk, even rayon, so long as it's natural fibers. You will melt
in polyester. Cotton holds moisture, which tends to have a cooling effect when
the wind blows over you. Reusing outer garments isn't an EWWWW! thing, so long
as you can change whatever is closest to your skin. Ventilation is a wonderful
thing. Air circulation will keep you cool. If you must lace something tight,
have open sleeves. Skirts are great, since air can get to your skin and you can
flap it a little to create wind when there isn't any. Faire folk and SCAdians
have told me that even full Elizabethan garb is wearable in full summer heat,
since once you sweat through the layers, it keeps you cool. Definately
find/make a fan. If it's very hot, drink lots of water, but keep in mind to
wear something you can easily maneuver in for those inevitable trips to the
bathroom. Clingy fabrics are not good with sweaty
situations. Something that's a bit stiff will stand away from you more. NO
VELVET! Ye gads, even cotton or silk. The fluffy pile traps heat. Loose woven
fabric is a godsend. Ice cubes come in handy! Last year at DragonCon, we had
to drop cubes of ice down the shirt of my other half when he got over heated in
his Faramir armor. Bring a handkerchief you can wet and drape around the back
of your neck unobtrusively. That will cool the blood vessels going to and from
your head greatly. If you're going to be out of doors and in the sun, keep said
sun in mind. Sunstroke is a Very Bad Thing (tm). Protect your skin. I can see
a human or elf easily draped in a cotton gauze "shawl". (BTW that's what medjai
used to wrap their heads in the Mummy Returns) It's lightweight, airy, and will
keep the direct rays of the sun off of you. LIGHT COLORS! Reflect the sun,
don't absorb it. Loose necklines. Something like Eowyn's refugee outerdress
would be great, since the sides allow for
a bit of ventilation.

Wow, I rambled.

Hiya!

Ok so I haven't posted in ages, but you still love me right? I am in
need of ideas and only you can help me. For a Fantastic/Medieval event
that lasts 5 days, I need to make myself some medieval lookng clothes,
but as my character is said to have been educated by both men and
elves, and was saved by the elves when her family was killed, I would
like my clothing to have some traces/inspiration of elvish culture. Now
it is in august and it will be hot, and it's kin of like a camp so I'll
be living in a tent for 5 days so my clothes nee to be practical. Any
ideas?
