The Slayer Cruise group, now maybe 400 (?)
with the addition of those not at the pre-sailing parta
Friday, is scheduled to have a cocktail party ashore
starting in a hour or so.

Then the ship leaves about 4:OO PM.

COCKTAIL PARTY YESTERDAY

We had a cocktail party with Clare & Brian and many others
yesterday in the Crow's Nest lounge, overlooking the sea ahead
of the bow.

Clare and Brian responded to our casual questions during almost
continuous conversations behind the round bar area. Both told
a slightly different story of how they met.

It was sometime after Clare had finished BIO in (spring) 1999.
They met via a common friend. And something happened. Both agreed
that they never were buddies who just happened to fall in love doing
things together.

But jumped quickly to that last step after Brian asked Clare to get
involved in a Halloween (1999) street event with him. Not a date,
but, but ending up that way.

Clare pursuaded him to costume as a vampire and she as a vampiress
(She said Claudia, but may mean someone else).[Those familiar with
Clare's childhood days, as told by her Dad to us in the Columbus
interview last Nov, will immediately recognize 'Clare the Parade
Organizer" - all-grown up now.]

CLARE & BRIAN PHOTOS

We convinced Clare to let us finally put up all our Clare & Brian
photos. [We thought]

We did some posed photos of Brian and Clare against the sunseetting
sky thru the windows of the Crow's Nest on the port side. PLus a photo
of Clare taking photos of James & Stacy. Which we also did.

Clare took one look at that and said that one wasn't going up - for
sure. She's contorted here and there in the photo.

But, she said said she wanted to review all of them on the laptop
first.

As we commented to Brian later on our way aft for the big dinner,
'Clare keeps adding conditions to them - but what can we do?'

Philosophically, Brian observed - "...we got 7 more days to get
stuff done.'

BATHROOM TALES

Clare & James Leary's wife (Stacy) were talking away all the time.
Ahead of us. And we all went to the Leary stateroom for the dinner
tickets.

Clare & Stacy locked themselves in the bathroom and ran everyone else
out of the cabin, Talking up a storm.

Outside in the hall Brian told a story of when he and about 20 guys
went on one's bachelor party cruise in a small ship. Four beds to a
small cabin - with two folding out of the wall... 'but the best time
we had ever had..." Brian added.

CROWDED ROOMS

Crowded rooms are a favorite topic with all of us.

We wished we'd realized that the larger rooms/ones with balconies
were that much bigger - but when we signed up, they we all gone-
so we never looked at the specs.

But we could've gone for others higher up in the ship.
Higher equals bigger.

THE BIKE OR THE BED

Earlier, Brian had noted that he and Clare went to Catalina Island
for one of the two trithelons (running, swimming, biking) Clare has
done in previous years (she missed the 2004 one because of the
photoshoot cruise).

Anyway, he said the tiny room they got was so small that Clare had to
either get on her bike or the bed. That's all the choice in the room
there was.

US

At least we have a big double window.
Great view.

Some other goups are already para-sailing on parachutes
behind a good-sized boat. Large fluffy clouds.

DINNER LAST NIGHT

At the dinner, we discovered that the sprinkling of people pseudo-
randomly (as opposed to both our & Clare's ignored e-mails earlier to
let us choose who we sat with) at tables was a favorite table
complaint.

No one could figure out what the the rules were.
They seemed arbitary. And had changed multiple times
since the on-line seating chart started.

We wound up at a crowded table (while nearby were larger tables with
many open seats) with a friendly family from Topeka, Kansas here for
their Slayer Cruise together.

Mom, Dad and three teen girls (Chelsea, Alyssa & Elana).

We told them of the site & Clare and gave them one of the site
plastic calendars like Clare said she carries around with her.

THE CLARE TOUR

Later, Clare came round in a private personal tour of the room tables
to see where the people she knew wound up being seated.

Just being pure charismatic Clare.
Meeting and greeting.

So we literally grabbed her and introduced her to the family.
Which really made the dinner event better for them.

Still later, waiting for dessert, we visited Clare's table and she
introduced her previously-unknown-to-her & Brian tablemates. After
dessert, Mom took Chelsea off for an airbrushd 'tattoo' in the on-
board shop.

We joined Clare & Brian at their partially enpty table and took some
more photos. Clare continued her meet-and-greet tour of that area of
the circular room.

Pointing out Brian, who always looked past himself for this fiance.

So we started pointing to the waiter a little further away - and we
all pretended he was her fiance. Never fazed Clare or even slowed her
down.

We stood behind Brian and Clare for several hours in the Casino as
they and Stacy played Blackjack - until we got so sleepy we had to
tell Clare (who was was winning from the start - there's a funny "I
love you, Johnny" tale about Clare and the first dealer she was
bantering with and baiting - as she won - that is for later.

A couope of Clare hugs and we were off to bed.

SHIP INTERNET PROVIDER

Oh, the guy running the internet room and the hotspots around the
ship said they had their satellite internet comnection with a private
provider (MTMsat) hat provides internet acces for oil platforms and
ships at sea.

Oops...time to go find where Clare is and joins the others going
ashore in the 120 passenger tenders.

At sea tomorrow.
Unless there is another destination timing change.

Also, when we see thme on a different svceen later, we may come back
and adust the image brightness online. The Averatec screen is very
good.
