DAY 1- Pre-Sailing Party (6/10+)

This is the first day's highlights
as we attempt to cover Clare's activities
on the cruise the same day.

This report is from the Westin Hotel in
Ft.Lauderdale. Tomorrow we are bused to the ship,
the MS Guiderdam.

Today all arrived but Andy Hallet & James Leary,
delayed for several reasons. Most flights were delayed
due to Florida storms.

We met Clare, Brian & Camden in the lobby and took a few photos
under difficult lighting conditions.

Clare looked like she'd just arrived from riding the back 40.

As per our agreement with Clare, our prior and new photos
of her with her fiance Brian are witheld pending their formal
engagement announcement - which will also include ....(fill in
the blanks). Which she said was only awaiting the selection of an
appropriate photo.

Clare proudly said she quit smoking 5 weeks ago and intends to
make that permanent. Later in the ballroom, she bit her tongue
and drew blood while talking and chewing the nicorette gum. Which
she says she only has to do when she's drinking. She drank red wine
with her meal.

We met Amber Bensen for the first time and she's very nice.
Then she said, "It's time to go get "likkered" up."

During the banquet, the guests were introduced.
Afterward Clare and others posed for photos.
Only a sample are included today.

Clare, Brian and we had many discussions - which are for later
vignettes on the group and will be linked from Clare's

Brian said he was alergic to Clare's two cats and takes allergy
pills - but it was a small thing & Clare was worth it. This was a
discussion we had outside the ladies room, where Clare had
disappeared into and left us alone to talk for a few moments.

Afterward, some of us retired to Froggy's room where they planned
...no we can't tell about that until after the cruise...

There had long personal discussions with Clare, as she sat on a sofa
arm near Brian, and occasionally with Brian. Who elaborated, with
Clare's inputs, on the story in Porthole Cruise Magazine's Clare
photoshoot of his proposal to Clare. More on that later.

(Mitch, a VP at PCM, did get hundreds of free copies of the June
Clare issue there for all to get a copy. A suggestion we'd first
made to him back in Jan 2005).

Much of what was said cannot be discussed pending Clare & Brian's
announcement. Also, we made plans to visit Clare & Brian before/after
the L.A. booster event in Late July.
