Re: [ChronicTown] Re: "Chronic Town" the Movie Update/Life Update

Hey All,
Well it's about damn time I hopped on this email
thingy and told everyone what's been going on with the
movie, etc. etc.

First off, I think it's great that people are starting
to get LA on the brain. The work that you did on
"Chronic" was stellar and if you work as hard here as
you did on our film, then I don't think any of you
will have trouble finding work. And since most of you
scrubbed the "Crackhouse" bathroom at the Jackovich
Apartments, there probably isn't a job that would put
your gag reflex to the test... even in LA.

That being said, I've been spending a lot of time
thinking about everyone from the Fairbanks "Chronic"
crew. I consider each and every one of you a friend
and sometimes in LA, those can be hard to come by. I
worry (let me preface this by saying that I am a
worrier; Lauri LaBeau will vouch for that) that people
will come to LA with big expectations and be
disappointed by some possible struggles when they
arrive. I only tell you this because I would prefer
to err on the side of caution when talking to my
friends about this industry. It's a great industry
and I love it; but just like green bean casserole, it
doesn't work for everyone (green beans make me yak...)

But rather than write some 8-page manifesto about the
"Good vs. Evil in Hollywood" I just want to open up my
phone to anyone who wants to talk, has questions or
concerns about work in LA, or just needs to bounce an
idea or two off of me. You helped me to realize a
dream and it's the least I can do. (Of course my dream
still has me working out of a one-bedroom apartment at
the age of 37, so sometimes completing the dream takes
a while...) My cell phone # is 818-825-8841. If
you're calling from a phone and don't want to use
minutes, just have another phone that I can call you
back at and I will do that. Or just email any
questions to me at "tommyhines@..."; but
sometimes a voice on the other end helps.

Trust me, people. I love this industry. I love
making movies. I love working with actors and crew.
I love writing. I even like acting, but wasn't good
enough to put myself in "Chronic." I saw a lot of
excitement with the whole UAF gang and more than your
share of passion for filmmaking. I don't want to stop
anyone, I just want you to have an opportunity to ask
someone who is still struggling, what it is that makes
it all worth it.

Okay, that's it for now. "Chronic" is in the editing
stages and I am pleased by the progress. The plan, as
always, will be to edit and tweak over the summer,
then submit to Sundance in the fall.

Oh, and Maya, CONGRATULATIONS ON EVERYTHING!!!!

UAF rocks,

Tommy
