So I know someone brought up films being under attack a while ago, but I wanted
to post my current experience.

(as taken from my production journal on DVXuser)
I can honestly say that I truly believe my film is under attack from Satan right
now. I transfered the footage onto the new terabyte drive, and the all the
footage transfered just fine... except for one... This harddrive is FAT32,
which as you know has a file size limit of 3 or 4 gigs. I like using NTFS
because sometimes I have longer files. In Leap, I have exactly one file that is
larger than 4 gigs. Seeing that my actress had other stuff on the harddrive, I
can't reformat it to NTFS. Here's the funny part... The clip number, in
relation to all the captured footage is 666. No joke. That was my first clue.
Then today, I have Alex come over for his ADR, and all the sound is coming out
garbled. I restart, same issue. Finally I do a system restore after I make
sure all my stuff is saved and backed up to another drive. That fixes the sound
issue. So we're moving along, and we come to the first bible study. EVERY
single line of Pastor Scott's ADR in the first bible study only has been
replaced with audio from later in the film. Like, the clips are still where I
put them and are the same length I had them, but the media they link to is now
linked to media later on. I checked my source files, which are .wav and they
had all be replaced. But only that first bible study. Strange? I think so. I
am CONVINCED that this film has some religous and spiritual truths that the
devil doesn't want let out, hence the issues. The fact that Satan has taken such
an interest in my film makes me want to finish it that much more, just to pour
some salt on that slug. =)

If we weren't on the opposite coast I'd bite in a heartbeat.  But I will put word out about it and pass on your info.  Have you tried advertising on Craislist there?

...since we can't seem to pay someone to direct and film a six-eight day shoot!
:) We've advertised on a few boards, but really no "bites."

We have a second draft of a script, working on a third, and would like to start
production in early January or February. We're in the Los Angeles area. Again,
there is pay for directing...

If you know someone who might be interested in this job, please pass on the info

Twilight Angel Productions is still casting for War of Angels.
This project serves to be the Christian answer to the secular superhero market like DC Comic's Justice League and Marvel Comic's X-men. I'm looking for those who wish to be apart of something huge. Please contact me if you are interested. There may also be other positions avalible on this project.

Hey DJ,
This project looks fantastic.  Like Winston, we're also working on a faith based superhero film.  Although technically our hero is more like Batman - highly skilled but with no super powers.  Just watched the War of Angels video on Tangle.  Looks awesome.  Where is filming taking place?

Great to hear you're doing a Christian super-hero motion picture project.  I'll be doing one God-willing in the near future too, but it'll be different.  I'm hoping that both of our projects will actually be able to each other's projects stronger, and actually improve each other's sales & revenues, because there's hardly been anything like this on the market before.  Now the Christian Community and the world are both gonna be in for a big pleasant surprise.

Have any of you ever heard of "ProScout" before? A young actress friend of mine says they sound very promising to her, as far as meeting agents goes, and getting her acting career into overdrive. However, this same young actress (a recent high school grad) has some concerns about them, too.

I never heard of them until this morning. Do any of you have any feedback as to whether "ProScout" is legitimate or is a scam?

Paul,

I love the idea of having other Christian filmmakers share the edit-version' s to get feedback of our work. I will check out your film soon... But just wanted to let you know that there is even a better way to do this... to show others an edited-version without having others to download a complete file.

The best way of doing this is through Vimeo.com Vimeo allows you to post the entire movie on their site and add a password protection to it. I have done this with one of our movies already. Only those who have a password would be able to see the film. Also, viewers may see it, but would not be able to download it. Or if you like, you could give people access to download it as well. I really recommended for this and other future projects to go vimeo, but you may need to go with their "Vimeo Plus". We use box.net too, but only when we want our clients to keep the master files on their computer.

yoz.

Just my thoughts

Felt that the narrator voice should be from an older man. esp when you are talking about life. it would be good to make it sound like from a guy who has been through it all.

the script makes it sound really like a script. like at 3:15 "its the only thing i know that numbs this pain" maybe its just me, but it doesnt sound natural.

good camera angles at scene 2

i believe more lightings need to be in place. as compared to the introduction. the lighting effects look pretty dim and not sharp enough.

i think the red funky hat in scene 3 is out of place.
i think a chello would sound nicer at the end of scene 3 as compared to a piano. the track is fine yet i think a variety of instruments would make a good difference. like flute or even a violin.

again too scripted in the 16 min plus scene. the one with the phone conversation

i hope im not too critical as Damian said. haha. technically im not a film maker... yet..

cheers.

I'm gonna see this when I get home, but in future, if u want advice get it from people outside of the industry cause that's the real audience who will respond honestly. Filmmakers are over critical because we see tech first and will always have something to say. Find someone u trust in the biz to give u blunt criticism (like 3 peeps) then give it to someone who is not in the industry.

But webisode 3 of 5 is up of my comedy web series The Expert and you can watch it at www.awakenpictures.com. Each webisode is under 5 minutes.

This is a major experiment with internet distribution and its certainly been a wild ride.

Hi, Dendrae
You are definitely improving. Although I don't speak the  lingo... I got the story. Intro and outro  good (precise and concise), and some good framing occasionally in amongst it all. Some of the shots went a little long, probably due to the 'loose' scripting and planning for it, and some of your edits you need to cut the camera 'clonking' noise out. I am not sure what program you are using to edit with, but even with  Windows Movie Maker you should be able to get a cleaner edit there. Also continue studying  shot size and framing, which will help to tell your story better. As I say... you are improving.
Keep at it Dendrae. (ps, your actress was one Craazzy momma! Smile emoticon )
Blessings.
Philip.

Here is the link to monsterfest http://www.dvxfest.com/monsterfest It's not really the futuristic look that I am talking about.  It is really subtle.  I think it has to do with the shadows.  If you look at the last part of the video with the guy walking through the sand with the camel, you can see that it's not too contrasty and it's very warm.  They just like to punch out the color to show that the camera has the ability. http://vimeo.com/935390 is another good example of the Red camera's look, as are a few of the other videos by Justin. What type of look are you going for in your film?

Thanks for the link. I loved some of the footage. Still wonders if this would work for my film.
The scenes are very futuristic looking with a lot of contrast. Is this the "look" you
are talking about or something create in Post-Pro?

I found the thread for the Red and Wolf movie but couldnt find the actual link to the movie itself.

Well, the Red can look very natural, but there is this certain quality that it has that is very unique. If you watched Knowing, this was shot on the Red, also if you're interested, DVXuser.com is screening films for their festival online. They are horror, and some are very R as they are all monster movies, but if you watch Red and the Wolf, a fairly clean film. No cussing, no nudity. A little blood, and of course a wolf, then you can get an idea of the warm look of the Red. Also view this. This is the official Red Reel. http://red.cachefly .net/RedReel500. mov It will give you a bit of a range of the look of the Red camera.

You make a good point on the "look" of the film. I looked at the link someone posted
for Sactuary...SciFi production. This is not the look I want since my film plays of in the early
1900's. More natural nature colors...film. ...cinematic look. I have seen other footage of the RED
that looks WAAY different than Sactuary.... a feature called "Works in Progress". I cant wait for it
to be done so I can see what the RED can do.

I've worked with the Red. It's a great camera, but it has a very unique look that no amount of color correction can change, so make sure that is the look you want.  It doesn't look like film, it doesn't look like video. It's it's own thing.  As far as large files goes, you just need lots of hard drive space, and you'll probably have to build a computer and edit proxies.  As far as places to rent, there are tons.  If you go to reduser.net you can get a ton of answers!

Has anyone shot with the RED One before? What is your overal feeling? How did you
manage the large files...working with it...backup etc.

What about good places to rent a complete system with lenses.

Thanks
Henk

I'm not a graphic designer, but I can do animations and designs.  I'd like to take a stab at it.  I can't promise anything though!
Just send me your company info.
