Well guys, I just got back from the Big apple and I can honestly say
that I had one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. In
just a couple days, I went to the Late Show w/David Letterman(Robin
Williams was the main guest), saw the Natural History museum,
Central Park, Times Square, rode the subways and even hailed a cab.
Most importantly though, I went to Carlas' play & actually got to
meet her live in person!
Now i'm not a guy who goes to alot of plays, but I gotta say that
SLS was actually very good & starred Carla & Blythe Danner(from Meet
the Parents). Carla's performance was incredible to say the least
and she looked fantastic as usual. How she & the other actors
remember hundreds of lines for over 90 minutes night after night
w/out a break is beyond me. I can't even remember where my glasses
are half the time! LOL Anyway, her performance was very impressive
& I highly recommend seeing the play if you get the chance to goto
NYC.
I was hoping but really didn't expect to meet Carla after the play
cuz I had heard that sometimes actors slip out back doors or the
security is so tight that you can't get anywhere near them. But I
asked a few people working at the theater if there was a chance &
they said yes. So I waited outside for about an
hour with several other people and was starting to think that maybe
it wasn't going to happen. Then wouldn't you know it, there she was!
OMG! Carla & another actress came right out the front door &
started signing autographs. I almost had a heart attack! I quickly
told my cousin to ready the camera & then grabbed my fav photo of
her. As I slowly walked over to her, she had her back turned to me
cuz she was talking to some other fans. But just as I came up next
to her, she turned around and looked up at me with those gorgeous
hazel-green eyes of hers & smiled. I almost fainted! I was so damn
nervous that I was just praying that something would come out of my
mouth other than "Me..like.. you.. lots!" LOL I handed her my pic &
asked her to autograph it. She looked at it & then at me & back at
the pic. She then said nicely, "I don't have a pen anymore
to sign with" I was like "Whups! ... My Bad!" (I know...What a
dufuss right?) Haha. So after fumbling around in my pocket, I found
my marker & handed it to her. As she was signing it, I told her how
fantastic she was in the play and also told her that I came all the
way from Michigan to see her. She seemed very impressed by that &
thanked me. I wanted to say alot more but I didn't want to hold her
up too long & I was also kinda suffering from that deer caught in
headlights mode. But I did manage to ask her if I could get my
picture taken with her & she said yes. That was frickin AWESOME!
That right there made the whole trip well worth it. I then thanked
her & she walked down the street a lil ways, jumped in a cab & took
off into the Manhattan night. An Amazing experience and one i'll
never forget. As you can imagine, i'm still trying to catch my
breath and wondering if all this really happened. But I have
several witnesses & a photo to prove it, so I guess it did. LOL
I hope someday I have the privlege of meeting her again & that you
guys are all as lucky as I was.
P.S. I have a photo of Carla & me in the 2006-Carla in NYC folder.
