After tactling titles like Battlestar Galactic and The Lone Ranger, Dynamite
Entertainment has aquired the rights to Buck Rogers.

I haven't had a chance to read a copy yet, but the art looks like they used
elements from the first strips and mixed them with 60's inspirations like Adam
Strange.

Frank Miller eyes big-screen 'Buck Rogers'
Odd Lot in talks to option the rights for the project
By Steven Zeitchik and Borys Kit
Dec 19, 2008
Frank Miller and Odd Lot Entertainment, the creator and production
company behind the upcoming comic-book adventure "The Spirit," are
close to teaming again on the classic sci-fi property "Buck Rogers."
Odd Lot, the shingle run by Gigi Pritzker and Deborah Del Prete,
is in negotiations to option the rights to "Rogers" from Nu
Image/Millennium, which
> obtained those rights this year from the Dille Trust. Millennium
is expected to
> get a credit on the movie but won't be involved in day-to-day
production.
John Flint Dille, a friend of Miller's, operates the trust, which
may have partly prompted rumors at the time of the Millennium
acquisition that the comic auteur-turned-filmmaker might come aboard
to direct. But Miller was not attached at the time; he only became
involved when Odd Lot entered the picture.
Miller will write and direct his own big-screen take on the comic
serial; while the creator has only begun to sketch ideas, it's
expected to be a darker take, with many of Miller's signature visual
elements and themes, such as corruption and redemption.
It's likely to be a priority project for Miller, though he has
been mulling a "Sin City" sequel.
One of the first pop-culture vehicles to tackle the issue of space
exploration, the story of Buck Rogers began life as a comic serial
in the late 1920's and early '30's and has seen numerous film and
television versions over the years.
ABC had a TV series in the '50s, and NBC produced a feature film
and TV series in the late '70s and early '80s, which imagined the
space explorer as someone who woke up in the 25th century to find
Earth destroyed and was then consigned to roam distant planets.
The party that controls the underlying rights has the ability to
make any movie or television series off the property. At the moment,
Odd Lot is planning only on a feature film.
Miller is the acclaimed writer and illustrator behind the graphic
novel franchise "Sin City," which became a hit for the Weinstein Co.
in 2004. He also is behind Warners breakout "300." "The Spirit,"
which Lionsgate releases next week, examines the pulpy hero created
by Miller mentor Will Eisner.
I'm hoping they do it justice.

Martin Caidin was contracted by TSR to do his own interpretation of
the original Buck Roger's story. Taking elements from the original
strips he tried to do too much with too little. Compressing nearty 20
years of stories into a few hundred pages caused bits and peices to be
left out here and there leaving the reader wanting. His reimagination
of characters and circumstances created a wholey different story, that
had no real connection with the Nolan books or strips. As a
completest, I read through this comparing it to the other version and
felt disappointed. Caidin who created the idea for The Six Million
Dollar Man, Is generally considered a good writer. In reading Cyborge
I enjoyed his work. With Buck Rogers: Life in the Future, I'm afraid
he missed the mark.

My name is Geoff, I am a spec screenwriter (well, trying to be), and I
am a huge fan of Buck Rogers (first season only).
I have recently launched a new project that involves writing a spec
script for a tv pilot of a reimagined Buck Rogers. I would like to
invite you to check out the site I have built for this project at
DefenseDirectorate.net. Recently launched, this site contains
backstory and the script (so far, its the first couple of pages) and
will be updated every couple of weeks.
Creating a new world, characters, timelines and history is a lot of
work, but very fun, so i hope you enjoy it and are entertained. So
please feel free to use this forum or the contact page on the site to
provide feedback.
Thanks & enjoy

In June the 3rd Season of Dr. Who will be on Sci Fi. So far the reveiws
have been good from the British veiwers. The dynamic between the Doctor
and his new companion is different, but the script quality has been
good. For those of you who haven't tried Who in the past, I recommend
taking a look. The show has a lot to recommend. It also goes in many
different directions so the watcher isn't bored.

The Sci Fi channel has made a agreement with King Entertainment and the
makers of CW's Smallville to produce 22 episodes of Flash Gordon. Eric
Johnson formerly of Smallville will play the lead. Production is to
begin in may at their Vancouver studio's.

Disney has been aquiring the rights to various science fiction
properties in the last few years. Buck Rogers was one, and more
recently they have invested in John Carter of Mars. Buck Rogers has
been stalled in preproduction meetings for a couple of years now. With
this move towards John Carter, hopefully they will be getting on the
move. Then again they could be just moving on.

The copyrights and trademarks on many of the old movie serials are
rapidly expiring. Those who own prints of these series are using
that to create a new source of material on DVD. Some of these
transfers are cheap and lack definition, while others are almost
studio grade. All threeof the old Flash Gordons are being offered in
a remastered form, as well as the original Buck Rogers. Here are
some other titles to look out for.
Radar Men from the Moon
Zombies from the Stratosphere
King of the Rocketmen
Captain Video
Captain Midnight
The Phantom Empire
The Underseas Kingdom
Brick Bradford
The Adventures of Tom Tyler

Funimation is releasing The New Adventures of Flash Gordon this week.
It will be packaged as a complete series box set. No details on
extras, or if the original movie will be included. This animated
series had above average scripts, yet was still plagued by Funimations
overuse of stock footage. A good nogstalgia buy and compliments any
serial buffs collection. Current price ranges 21.43 to 35.99
Ultraman flies again. The Original 39 episode series is being released
in 2 box sets. The first 20 episodes were released on Tuesday with the
last 19 coming later this year. No news on extras for this title
either, but all episodes will be digitally remastered. A great example
of the giant monster saga. Special effects were feature quality for
the time, even if you could tell there were wires. Lots of location
shooting, and good sets. This show aged well. Current ranges 21.43 to
39.99.

This campaign is about Human beings, Democracy, UNHCR, Refugees, The Iraqis,

Hi there,
I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have spent the
last 10 years of my life as a refugee registered with the UNHCR in Beirut. The
last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for peace and human rights (especially
refugees and asylum seekers) on the Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks
publisher. I have launched many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees
in Lebanon and hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I
helped make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I used
the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more about that in my
free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and could be download from my
sites.
This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating actions of
the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and human-buttons to collect
money. This is an abuse of the dignity and humanity of the refugees and must
stop immediately and a clear public apology present by The United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees. My friends, I am talking about the pictures you can
see here: http://lebanon.fateback.com/human-buttons.htm
Also you can read my new campaign 'Urgent, we need smile' here:

For more info about UNHCR and life of refugees you can read my free ebooks. I
invite you as fellow humans and members of the world community to support my
campaign by reading my article on my site and see the human-buttons. The
campaign is to support and improve the UNHCR http://www.unhcr.ch especially
after the last scandals in the UN and UNHCR, just for example:

Just aquired a box set of a CGI series that you may want to check out.
Roughnecks: Chronicles of The Starship Troopers was conceived as a
show aimed at the teenage market, but some stations thought the
material too mature. The last episodes went direct to video. Overall
the format was a series of multi-part story arkes they call campaigns,
similar to many British science fiction series. It has a lot of
cliches and formula, but they work for it not against it. The
characters are beleivable and even at times interresting. The CGI is
some of the best I've seen. Story expands on the Heinlien book more
faithfully then the movies. Ships and mech had elements of design
similar to Ridley Scott's Aliens. They were very well thought out and
possible, with the right technology. Just about everone will find
something to justify a rental, even if they don't want to add it to
their collections.
I am also adding links to a free database program for DVD collectors.
This program is easy to learn and based on community cooperation.
http://www.intervocative.com
It also lets you post your lists to the web.

Next to http://www.imdb.com/ it is the best listing of movies I've seen.

Hi Everyone, I've been checking out some of those rumors involving Disney, possibly making a Buck Rogers film. Their propossed plotline seem to be taken from the TSR series of books. A pilot flying an experimental interceptor destroys incomming missles in the outer atmospere. His fighter is too damaged to continue so he ejects using a crogenic escape pod. Several hundred years laters he is unthawed to battle evil intergalactic conglomerites. It sounds like they are going to be doing a lot of that Communism good individualism bad preaching so many movies do now a days. That is if they ever get it off the ground. Unfortunately that is almost the exact reverse of the original intent of the Buck Rogers books and series.
I thought the original series was about rebels fighting the Han invaders. Sort of like the Iraqi insurgents. I don't remember anything about corporations, evil or otherwise. I haven't read much of the TSR series so maybe they're there.
In a day when corporations cover up the hazards of their products, overexploit natural resources and profit from oil wars, I think Buck would be willing to take them on.

I hope this isn't considerd spam. I am a member here and thot some
people might be interested in this eBay item. I am selling my Buck
Rogers Satellite Pioneers kit. This collectible was offered to kids
who sent in coupons from the Buck Rogers comic strip in the 50s. The
kit includes Cadet Commision, Solar Map, Starfinder and Codebook, plus
an autographed "photo" of Buck Rogers. The Cadet Commision has a name
written in the border, and the code messages on the back of the
Codebook have been filled in. The bulletins have been folded for many
years and the paper is beginning to seperate along the creases. Please
note that most of these are in bulletins maked CONFIDENTIAL by Cmdr
Rogers, Earth GHQ himself (apparently the locations of the nine
planets and the constellations were classified). Winning bidder
promises not to reveal their contents to Killer Kane, Martian tigermen
or other enemies of Earth! And watch for my collection of Buck Sunday
pages coming soon!

I joined too late to vote in the polls but my favorite Buck Rogers was
always the newspaper strips, esp by Rick Yager, which I read in FAMOUS
FUNNIES before it finally made it to my hometown paper. But I liked
all the versions even the watered down TV series and the radically
altered recent Rebellion books.
Can you help with pricing some collectibles? I have a Buck Rogers
Satelite Pioneers kit, and I would like to know how much it's worth.
If anyone can help with a general price I can adjust it for its
condition. Kit includes: Map of solar system, Star Finder, Code book
and Cadet Commission, plus an autographed b&w "photo" of Buck by
Murphy Anderson.
