Hello again, I'd like to take this opportunity to reintroduce myself to
the group.
My name is Wayne, and I am 45 years old. I grew up in
Bridgeport/Stratford Connecticut, moved to east central Florida in 1974
(when I was 14), and have been here ever since. I joined this group
about a year and a half ago. Yes, I am a lurker.
During the very late 60's and early 70's, while still living in
Connecticut, i would religiously watch the Saturday afternoon Bowery
Boys movies with my grandfather. I was very young back then, so I don't
really remember the TV station that broadcast them, but have a feeling
it was New York channel 11. We watched that station a lot.
The thing i liked best (back then) about those old BB movies was the
boys antics and their routines, the gatherings at Louie's Sweet Shop,
and the fact that every film had a happy ending.
Over the years I have collected every official Dead End Kids/East Side
Kids/BoweryBoys movie released on DVD, including a few bootlegs. I also
have a nice collection of Bowery Boys official releases on VHS. I really
hope the entire Bowery Boys catalog gets released on DVD. The wait is
driving me crazy!!!
Recently, I have added to my collection a re-issue copy of Leo Gorcey's
"Dead End Yells....." autographed by Leo Jr., both hardcover and
softcover versions of "The Films of the Bowery Boys" archive, as well as
numerous BB/DEK/ESK posters, photos and lobby cards.
One item that I lack, and would really like to have, is a copy of the
book ''Me and the Dead End Kid". If anyone has a source where I can
obtain this book, please contact me off list. Are there any more Huntz
Hall, Leo Gorcey or DEK/ESK/BB related novels or autobiographies out
there that I can purchase or research???
How about web sites??? I know of a few.
Wayne

Welcome Lorie....so lets get this conversation going on this

Brooklyn, now in Los Angeles, big fan of the Bowery Boys and would watch
them every Saturday on channel 11 in New York when I was growing up...
Has everyone gotten the Leo Gorcey Jr books ...the reprint of his Dad's
autobiography is a fantastic deal and very compelling reading.
So come on Gang, lets get this Board going...Now I have to back and
consecrate on my work...Has anyone compiled the malapropisms of Leo
Gorcey as has been done with the proverbs of Charlie Chan?...Hmmm I
wonder/
All the Best to you All,
