Episode Forty Eight: MOVIEGOING USA--THIS FACE HAS CHANGED

In a change of pace episode, The Boys Outta Brooklyn move away from the movies to focus on the places you go to see them, movie theaters! During a freeform conversation, Tom and Derrick reminisce about their own experiences going to the movies, discuss the way the movie theater business has changed, the disappearance of the independant and single screen movie venues, and how the rise of home media formats such as videotape and DVDs may have eroded audience behavior. Plus Judd Apatow and Universal treat our guys to free popcorn, and a tangent involving fanfiction. It's a matinee complete with trailers and shorts, so get to clicking!

Episode Forty Six: CITY OF QUARENTINE TRAITOR APALOOSAS

It's our periodic Review Episode where the Boys From Brooklyn tackle some recent films, including the action thriller <i>Traitor</i>, the western <i>Apaloosa</i>, the 'is it a kid's movie?' curiosity <i>City of Ember</i> and a film that's so bad Tom threatens to 'go Shylock' on the director, the '<i>Blair Witch</i> meets <i>The Crazies</i>' jitter-fest <i>Quarentine</i>. Plus we discuss the future of one of our favorite actors, the Great, Great Don Cheadle, talk about the concept of 'podcast drift' and give much respect to Tom's mom. It's a rabies-free time, so get to clicking!

Episode Forty Five: THE HOUSE OF THE ELEVENTH LEGAL FRINGE ON MARS

For only the second time ever, The Guys Outta Brooklyn tackle the American TV scene by examining a number of new television series. From discussing the rise of the super-intelligent hero in <i>The Eleventh Hour</i> and <i>The Mentalist</i> to looking at how American producers have adapted British shows like <i>Life on Mars</i>, Tom and Derrick dig in deep. Plus we bemoan the state of Jay Mohr and David E. Kelly, Derrick goes insane for <i>Fringe</i>, and Derrick's wife compares us to the leads of <i>Boston Legal</i>. It's gotta be better than what's on now...so get to clicking!

Posting this in a couple of listservs, 'cause I know there are a couple of folks
on here who do voice acting and/or are fans of the franchise...

Adaptation GJ is a group involved in (among other things) creating fan-made dubs
for Transformers shows that were made in Japan. One of these shows is
Transformers: Headmasters, a series that picked up where the third season of the
original Generation One TF series ended. Voice actors are needed to provide
voices for minor characters slated to guest-star in an upcoming episode.

Of these characters, only two are actually Transformers, and the rest are
humanoid animal creatures known as Battle Beasts (they had their own obscure toy
line in the eighties an' everything). The Battle Beasts will apparently only
appear in that episode, so if you wanted to do some voice acting but you have no
interest in Transformers or don't want to commit to the fandub project
long-term, you could still voice some of these critters.

The auditions page is at http://www.adaptationsgj.net/AuditionsHMUFP.html

I'm auditioning for every possible character available, but that's because I'm
both a TF fan and an amateur voice actor ... and I want to see if I can continue
to voice characters in future episodes (and I used to have a Battle Beasts
figure, just to compund the nerdiness). Even so, I can't voice them all (some
are female), and I'd bet someone is bound to notice that all the Battle Beasts
have the same basic voice, so having at least one more actor would break that up
a bit.

Episode Forty Four: Gilt Edged Bonds Part Four--ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE and DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER

We continue our survey of the longest running action series in movie history with two curios: the only film featuring Australian actor George Lazenby as Bond, and the last Connery Bond film. It's a strange period just before Moore comes on-board, and the Guys Outta Brooklyn dissect these two films with the flair you've come to expect. Plus, we explore the connection between Blofeld and Lex Luthor, use the phrase 'it makes no sense' more often than anybody anywhere on this planet, and world premiere our brand new <i><b>Theme Song</b></i> by our very own B-Hyphen. This never happened to the other guys--whoever they are--so get to clicking!

It's late October, which means The Guys Outta Brooklyn once again reveals a sextet of <i>Obscure Horror Movies For Halloween</i>! Plus Thomas imitates Gilbert Gottfried, the Guys discuss movies to make you claustrophobic, and we ponder the fate of Patrick Bergin. It's a road trip to terror, so rev up your engine and get to clicking!

Episode Forty Two: Things To Do With The Head Of Hammett's Limey Dragon on The Miracle Mile

\It's the 2nd Annual edition of our <i>Obscure Movies Episode</i>, as The Boys From Brooklyn get a little crime-movie crazy talking about such overlooked films as <i>The Limey</i>, <i>Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead</i>, and </i>Hammett</i>. And even though all of these films are depressing, Tom and Derrick take the time to celebrate the joy of that 80's cheese classic <i>The Last Dragon</i>! Plus imitations of Julius Carey and Terrance Stamp, the guys dissect the wave of Tarantino knock-offs of the 90's, and Derrick lays out his theory about the connection between <i>Miracle Mile</i> and <i>Cloverfield</i>! You've got an hour to get to the chopper--so get to clicking!

That is exactly the plan as it stands--we've got it so that all films will
be covered in twelve episodes. Alas, that means OCTOPUSSY and NEVER SAY
NEVER AGAIN will *not* be covered in the same episode, but c'est la vie.

For anybody interested I posted an Excel file in the FILES section. It's
a movie quiz. Fill in the blank under the scene (the people have been
erased) and an answer of TRUE or FALSE will pop up. There's 72 scenes. I
DO have the answers to them all. Naturally the file I uploaded is blank.
So ONCE you've posted your score I can then release to you the answers
to the movies you didn't know. So please no cheating.

I figured it might be a fun little activity for a bunch of movie buffs.
I can not be held accountable to either the quality of the movies or the
fact that they're all roughly within the same 20/30 year period. I
didn't put this together.

Have fun!

It was bound to happen, and here's where the Guys Outta Brooklyn are finally brought to their knees by the crapitude that is the 'psychedelic cinema' version of <i>Casino Royale</i>, a film so nonsensical, so awful that Tom and Derrick are near speechless! Of course, before they descend into the all-star train wreck, they discuss and dissect the Sean Connery opus/Japan travelog <i>You Only Live Twice</i> as part of our ongoing look at the James Bond series. Plus Tom wants you to pet his kitty, Derrick reminisces about syndicated television and we try to figure out how a man can hand wash his own intestines. It makes the pretty colors...so get to clicking!

You know, Downey just lost a lot of respect with this comment. It comes off as
jealousy. I mean, here we are most of the way through summer, he thinks he has
the number one movie of the year, and BAM, here comes Dark Knight and steals
Iron Man's thunder.
Downey's pissed because he's no longer the top draw of the year. It's petty,
small and stupid.

Both were great movies, Downey had no reason to attack DK.

We've had some complaints from our fans that Episode Thirty-Nine had been unavailable.  This was due to some ass-hattedness on podomatic's part.

It has been corrected, and it's now able to be downloaded at http://betterinthedark.podomatic.com/enclosure/2008-08-24T05_35_07-07_00.mp3

And stay tuned for a major announcement abouut the future of Better In The Dark.

Apparently, not everyone enjoyed the film. Here's what Downey had to say about it in a recent interview:

"My whole thing is that that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart. It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.' I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f--king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? F-ck DC comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."

I disagree with him completely, but I got a chuckle out of it.

Just that! It was an okay movie, but it was propelled to the top by a generation
of 13-year-old girls.

Give me a movie that makes its way to the top the way God intended — through
big fat geeks watching it over and over!

We discovered this after the fact--even though podomatic claimed it wad
published and posted.

But then, ever since we upgraded to a larger account, podomatic has caused
us a large amount of grief. podomatic sucks gangrenous ass.

Chances are we will have some news about the future of the podcast very,
very soon.

The Guys Outta Brooklyn talk about a quartet of great summer films: the
big screen television adaptation <i>Get Smart</i>, the

Episode Thirty Nine: Morgan Freeman Loves Our Reviews--And You Will, Too!

It's nothing but Happy Face Smile Time in this King-Sized episode, as The Guys Outta Brooklyn talk about a quartet of great summer films: the big screen television adaptation <i>Get Smart</i>, the claims-it's-a-comic-book-movie-but-isn't <i>Wanted</i>, <i>The Incredible Hulk</i> and <i>The Dark Knight</i>. Plus Tom continually creeps out Derrick with his Joker impersonation, we go on a rather rambling tangent involving various incarnations of The Flash, and play a voice mail featuring the debut of our Official Junior Correspondent, Cade Reddick, in what will go down in history as the sweetest moment ever in the history of the show! It's not about cleaning up the streets...it's about clicking, so get to it!

When TITANIC was shiny and new, I was dating a lovely girl who looked like a
young Michelle Pfieffer in Kentucky....who was OBSESSED with that movie. I
was dragged to see it a number of times, and even had part of my July 4th
weekend that year taken up by her insisting we drive to Cincinnati to see a
traveling exhibit of TITANIC props that was installed at King's Dominion. I
wasn't too keen on the film to begin with, as I felt it was sorta
tear-tugging cheese....but Vanessa's worship of the film made me hate it.

(And I wasn't too fond of her obsession with MAriah Carey's BUTTERFLY album,
either....)

Why? TITANIC was no "The Empire Strikes Back" but it was a pretty
good movie, I thought. Do people really think TITANIC is that bad or
is it just that they want to see "The Dark Knight" take over as top
money maker of all time?
