Sorry it's me again, but I want to pursue the BBM thread.
NES: 'Unicorns' scene. I'd always thought he messed with his hands
to avoid meeting his father's gaze as far as poss. Thank you, Mark,
for the extra insight. A minor BBM here -- when he unlocks the door
to the school attic, goes through, and then returns to remove the
key. He never looks at the key, but just checks he's unobserved.
Neat & nice.
COCOON 1: during his grandpa's eye-test, he inclines his head
towards the old man as a gesture of sympathy and despair that the
old boy is getting too old for the world. It's a wonderfully
graceful gesture, but grace was something that young Barret had in
abundance, don't you think? Even though he's not a mainstream role,
I think he's great in this movie.
DARYL: this movie is stiff with BBMs! Here's a gem. When we first
see him at the controls of the SR-71, he gently twitches a muscle on
the right side of his face. Just that. But it vividly reminds us
that it's only a persecuted child about to fly that Blackbird.
FRANKENWEENIE: this DVD dropped into my mailbox only yesterday!
Wow! I've watched it only three times so far, so I won't pick a BBM
yet, but it's great to see him mid-way between NES and DARYL.
COCOON 2: I'm in trouble here. For the first time, I didn't feel
Barret was comfortable in front of the camera -- he just didn't have
his usually wonderful composure. But I blame an impossible role for
him. How could he pick up at age 15 the tender relationship with
his 'grandpa' established when he was 11? Director, producers, and
Barret were all on a loser that they couldn't avoid. But I know
you'll tell me I'm badly wrong.
Keep the BBMs rolling in, guys....there's masses of them, but
they're more interesting if you explain why.
And nice photo links, Cal_Man....they're already on my hard drive!
