Re: BBMs
Thanks Duoboleti. Don't forget that your posts are always welcome.
I made the mistake of reloading the page after I hit send. If the
page does not turn up, press the back button and try again. If you
reload the page instead, you will probably have to write out your
message again. I also started saving my messages onto a separate
word file just to stay safe.
I spent a lot of time looking for the D.A.R.Y.L. screenplay but since
I could not find one anywhere, I settled for the novelization which
was based on the screenplay and came out around the same time as the
movie. I just started reading it, but I hope to gain insight into
Barret's creative choices during filming, and to find out if there
were scenes in the script that did not make into the film or were
cut. The scene where a couple find D.A.R.Y.L. in the beginning is
slightly longer in the book, which could explain why Barret went
through so many costume changes. When I see the film again, I will
look for those things that you mentioned. The scene between
D.A.R.Y.L. and the dying doctor was definitely one of Barret's
greatest moments, except when he leans in to kiss the doctor. It is
obvious that his lips don't touch the actors forehead though I do not
think this is Barret's fault. I'll probably have a lot more input
after I finish reading the novel and seeing the film again.
I think that Barret's voice over work for the Twilight Zone episode
Gramma is some of the best work he has ever done. Barret is onscreen
the entire time and acts alongside no one. The "Gramma" of the title
appears toward the end, though I would have preferred if the
writer/director made her look more human. Although the actress who
played Barret's mother had achieved some fame at the time, she is
onscreen for less than two minutes, and we barely get a glimpse of
her face. It is Barret alone the whole time. The show is riveting
from beginning to end. This fact alone attests to his talent.
Here are some other moments: Barret's reaction after the dog starts
leaking in Frankenweenie. Barret's last scene with his mother in
Highway to Heaven. Barret running away from bullies in NES. Barret
striking out in D.A.R.Y.L. And much more that I'll mention later.
I'll probably discuss these scenes in more detail in a later post.
For those of you who haven't seen the above, I urge you to proceed
with caution.
I should think of more pretty soon. I agree with Duoboleti that
Barret's voice was very distinctive. Daniel Basnett had a few sound
bytes on his website. Shortly after his decision to revamp the site,
the site was shut down. I hope this is temporary.
Barret's only major role in a feature film was D.A.R.Y.L. which,
unfortunately, was not a huge success. However, I feel that the film
will soon gain in popularity. Since the themes it explored were
similar to last summers A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, I think more
people will learn about D.A.R.Y.L.
I've seen most of Barret's work, though I haven't been able to find
some of his rare appearences. Randy, can you provide a brief
synopsis of the episode of Hooperman? I can not find any info about
this series anywhere on the net, let alone an episode guide. I
haven't seen Finder of Lost Loves, Love,Sydney, Knight Rider, or his
appearence in The Incredible Hunk. Any more information on these
would be greatly appreciated.
There should be a lot to respond to in this post. I look forward to
hearing from you.
Later,
Mark
