Hi, all - and thanks to Tom for his welcoming words, but I'm an even
older fart than he is! If ever I have to write down my age, I find
it easier to use scientific notation. I'm also
retired.....and "Falcor, it's WONDERFUL!"
My connection with Barret? In 1984/5, while he was shooting bits of
DARYL at Pinewood Studios (20 miles west of London), I was working
only 3 miles away. Pretty close connection, huh? I didn't see
DARYL until 1995, when a kid called Darrell insisted that I watch it
off air. I loved it, but didn't get the video till last year. Then
I realised BO could act a bit, started tracking down his other
output, and here we are. Still haven't found enough. Help!
(ColumbiaHouse are rooted in North America)
I'd just like some help from you guys in pinpointing the reasons for
Barret's excellence and appeal. He certainly wasn't just cute, and
he doesn't conform to the usual pattern of Hollywoodkids. And his
voice is melodiously distinctive, whatever the accent: Ivy League
("I'd find that very interesting" - DARYL) or Southern ("Who's gonna
take yer tuh outer space?" - COCOON).
Mark's idea of 'favourite moments' is good, though I'd be interested
in what you think are just plain 'good moments' - or even 'bad'
ones. If a lot of folks pick the same scenes, we'll know where to
look for the essence of Barret's success.
The dumpster: I read on some site that there was a stuntman inside
waiting to catch Bastian. Odd. I'd've thought a big mattress would
have been safer.
Maybe I'll find what to click for a profile one day - I'm still
having probs with all these buttons and backs. But come on, you
guys, start listing what you think are BBMs - Barret's Big Moments.
But don't ignore the other questions in my earlier postings. (Oh
God, I'm getting bossy - forgive!)
Gotta get that moussaka out of the oven: keep writing, cheers to
all. DUOBOLETI
