Hi Duoboleti
Thanks for your informative post. I don't know why it's been so
quiet here lately. There were more messages on average per week on
Cal Man's site. I think it would be a good idea for those of you who
have Barret sites to mention the club. There is plenty to talk about.
I know a lot of Barret films are hard to find. Frankenweenie
recently aired on a show called Exposure that is on the sci fi
channel. The short is also in the new Nightmare Before Christmas
Special Edition DVD.
I am not sure if Barret plays the piano. In D.A.R.Y.L. and Scenes
from a Class Struggle you never see his fingers touch the keys. In
Scenes, he is playing Debussy. I'm not sure about D.A.R.Y.L. Anyone
know?
I don't think the filmmakers were consciously borrowing from Barret's
other films. I read somewhere that Barret was a science fiction
buff. Most of Barret's film have a science fiction element to them.
I never noticed any continuity errors myself. Could you give some
specific examples?
I haven't seen Flight of the Navigator so I can't comment on that.
Incidentally, I found out on the imdb that their birthdays are only a
few days apart.
Here's something that I picked up. Barret was in two films that
featured dogs: Frankenweenie and Spot Marks the X. In real life,
Barret and his family owned a poodle. That's all I could think of,
feel free to add more.
I recommend in addition the films above, his performance in Highway
to Heaven: To Touch the Moon. You should check your local listings.
In the U.S., the series is syndicated on PAX channel.
Here's another good idea for a post. Think of your favorite moments
from Barret's films and why. I need to sit on this for awhile but I
am eager to hear your opinions. Please feel free to contribute.
Later,
Mark
