ZVA: ZOMBIE VS. ALIENS The Sci-Fi/Horror/Disaster Movie Begins! And What a beginning it was!  We had our first rehearsal, we shot our first video, and the bumper stickers are in.
#################################################################
I NEED HELP THIS SATURDAY NIGHT Aug. 16TH FROM 6:30pm to 11:00pm.  Contact me, Geoff Lafayette at GeoffBatman@... if you can help. No experience necessary.
We will be shooting in and around Tenny Park, Madison, WI.
################################################################
Our first rehearsal was on Saturday, late afternoon at my house near Tenny Park.  In this scene three sewer workers traversing the Madison sewers in a canoe are attacked by a giant crab who Gard's the entrance to the Hidden Space Alien City!  Sean Bode plays the gruff ex-special forces sanitation worker, "Stinky," and carries a harpoon gun.  Scott Treinen plays the Foreman of the expedition, "Bosco," and there is nothing in the sewers he can't fix.  Clarice Lafayette plays  Delila the "go to girl" who wants Boscos job!
This rehearsal went so well with the help of Assistant Director Les Stephany, we decided to skip Wed rehearsal and meet early for Saturday's shoot-- 6:30pm.

SATURDAY NIGHT SHOOTING BEGAN!  After dinner Sean Bode and I decided to shoot the crab claw rising from the water at the Tenny Park Beach!  Its made of styro-foam to keep it light (it's still very heavy), but what I didn't realize is it is virtually impossible to sink!  So, Sean and I are tying to get some shots and I'm in the water and Sean is up on a picnic table with the camera trying to shoot this giant claw and it is not working very well.
Then a group of people comes up in the dark and asks us what we are doing.  And I tell them!  Well, they offer to help and with in two minutes, we have 4 new cast members up to their necks in Lake Mendota helping me move the claw around an we get our shot!  So, a big thank you goes out to Grant Zoch, Tony Weber, Siobhan Beau, and K. D. Reeve!

And finally, the new ZVA: ZOMBIE VS. ALIENS bumper stickers are in!  Every Cast and crew member gets one so look for them when you're stuck in traffic!

Yes, you heard it right: Leslie Stephany signs on as Assistant Director!  She'll be riding shot gun with me as we shoot one of the most complicated scenes ever attempted in Mad-Citywood! The attack of a giant alien one eyed crab on a canoe full of Madison Waist Treatment workers 50 feet down in a Madison sewer!

How? We'll be using the bottom side of a bridge on the yahara river at night! Oh if you haven't seen the crab's claw, click to this yahoo group and click the photos button.

Remember we still need a lot of help:

Rehearsals : Saturday Aug 9Th 3:00 to 4:30 at my house near Tenny Park in Madison.

First of all, thanks for the script, it did come threw this time. Well, you already know I'm going to be there for my scene next month, so I'll help out with whatever else you might need on those dates. Dear Movie Buddies,
We still don't have my wife's job situation figured out. Things look
good as far as job prospects and we should be out of this predicament
soon.
Our problem now is I don't have a enough time to shoot this all this
year. One of the things I learned from BUCKYSTEIN is January to May is
the best time to shoot. Everyone seems to have a lot going on in the
summer and the fall.
I have been talking to Sam and Darrin of BloodShot Productions, Inc.
to take on the two lead roles (Bones & Alby) in this picture. They
both have bucket loads of talent and their comic timing from years in
the Haunted House business is superb.
There are multiple scenes with only these two characters, most taking
place inside the submarine. I would love to get those scenes shot this
spring. The rest would start again January 2009.
I know it might sound a lot like, "This will never happen!" But they
said, We couldn't make a Movie with a $600 camera and no money. They
said it could never make the big screen or rent in video stores and we
flew by the seat of our pants and did it anyway! AND I'M DOING IT
AGAIN!

Well here we go again!
Here is the schedule for ZOMBIE VS. ALIENS (Also known as ZVA, or BONES SKELETON AND THE TOILET OF TERROR!).  I will be Directing!  I mentioned otherwise a couple of weekends ago but this will work better.  I do need a few Assistant Directors--could be as big or small as you want (more below).

PLOT OVERVIEW:  A Sci-Fi/Comedy about a Hero Zombie named BONES SKELETON fighting Aliens in the Madison sewer system.

PRODUCTION OVERVIEW: Most of the non-Star parts will require three, 2 hr rehearsals and then you will get a time and a place to show up on the SHOOTING WEEKEND (Usually a 2 to 4 hr. block) and then, you are almost done.  All cast members will be asked to work on at least one behind the scenes job.

The SHOOTING WEEKENDS are last weekends of January, February, March, April, May, June, and September.

TRYOUTS (or auditions) will be on two weekday nights during the first full week of  January 2008 (That is Monday January 7Th,  Tuesday 8Th, Wed. 9Th, Thurs 10Th, Friday 11Th --or by appointment if you have a good excuse) I will have the two dates when I find rehearsal space. You only need to make one of those nights.

The FIRST READING with the full cast will be Saturday, January 26 (The last Saturday in January--That's Saturday, January 26).  This is a mandatory rehearsal for all cast

REHEARSALS will be on the same weekday evening, once a week on the 3 weeks before  the end of the month shoot.  All cast members will be asked to have their lines memorized by their  first rehearsal.  Cast members who shoot on more than one weekend are only responsible for that month's lines (So, February lines for February shoot, etc.).

FIRST SHOOT WEEKEND: Last weekend in February.  That is Saturday, February 23Th and Sunday, February 24Th.

SECOND SHOOT WEEKEND: Last weekend in March.  That is Saturday, March 29Th and Sunday, March 30Th.

THIRD SHOOT WEEKEND: Last weekend in April. That is April 26Th and 27Th.

FOURTH SHOOT WEEKEND: Last weekend in May.  That is May 24Th and 25Th.

FIFTH SHOOT WEEKEND: Last weekend in June. That is June 28Th and June 29Th.

SIXTH (Make up) SHOOTING WEEKEND: Last weekend of September.  That is September 27Th and 28Th. This will be the weekend we get all missed shots, retakes or shots needed for continuity or clarity.

OTHER NOTES:

COSTUMES: Most cast members will be asked to supply their own costume (when it is just clothes).  Cast members who are in more than one scene with the same clothes will be asked to leave their clothes with Geoff Lafayette Productions until their scenes are complete.  We ask that you bring your own bag to pack them in. We keep the bag and present it back to you at the beginning of your next shoot.  We understand that this maybe inconvenient, but the complexity of what we are trying to accomplish demands it.

REPLACEMENT CAST MEMBERS:  Because this is a feature length movie (Twice the size of BUCKYSTEIN)  I will have to replace any cast member who can't make the schedule regardless of the circumstances. I want to say up front, "I'm sorry."  But, Zombie VS. ALIENS must stay on schedule and if we have to write your character out and a new one in, it will happen.

WEATHER: Unless there is danger to equipment all weather will just be accepted as part of the story.

SAFETY: The script and action will be set up in away that does not endanger any actors.

MONEY: GEOFF LAFAYETTE PRODUCTIONS is a volunteer organization.  All cast members are volunteers and will not be paid and that includes the Director.  All money earned (above it's cost, if any) by this movie will go to nonprofit charitable organizations chosen by Geoffrey Lafayette.  ZOMBIE VS. ALIENS is a quest for fame and not fortune.

ASSISTANT DIRECTORS: Will work closely with the Director. These cast members will become experts in the scenes they take on. They will be responsible for the "Art" of their scenes.  They will come up with a shot list, take charge of rehearsals, and pre set up and break down locations. They will also take over for the Director should he be unable to make it.  My job as Director will be make sure the actors stay in continuity and that the pacing matches the work in front and behind the scene being filmed.

Any Questions?,
Geoff Lafayette
Director/Writer/Producer
ZOMBIE VS. ALIENS

I will be stepping aside as Director of the BONES SKELETON PROJECT and just be the Producer or The Supreme Allied Commander.

Tryouts will be in early January of 2008, with the first rehearsal with the full cast on the last Saturday of January.  Shooting Dates will be the last weekends of February, March, April and May with make up shots the last weekend of June.  Rehearsals will very with only the people in that months shoot at rehearsals (Usually 3 rehearsals).  So, most people will show up for 3 rehearsals and a couple of hours on the shoot weekend.

We will be shooting at twice the speed of BUCKYSTEIN.  I know this sounds impossible, but here is the plan:  We will have multiple Directors and Cinematographers.  Each Director will pre-scout the location and will never shoot two scenes back to back (Unless they're shooting at the same location).  They will have two hours to shoot there scene but they'll have time to set up and completely plan the shoot before the actors arrive.  It's a race against time!

Everyone will be asked to do some behind the scenes work.

Eric (Yes the WYOU ERIC!) sent me this note:

as you may have heard (janet) I've cleaned up an extra large
fishtank that's 5'x2'x1'
     found it near the station
     so
thus far, I've just been playing with florescent dye
(lit by a bed of 5 5-foot-long blacklight tubes)
really bright, really cool - so I'm sitting on hours of this
stuff already

you gotta see - the idea now (for your deal - though the footage
I have would already be great for backgrounds, underwater fuel
leaks, etc.) is to sculpt some half tube passageways
- backgounds that we could put a model in front of - could cast
shadows, etc. (things that are hard to bluescreen)

could guide a model through the tank, while tracking the camera
from the side
(this would require a small model - maybe 6-10 inches long)

       line or track >o
                             I
                             I
                 I----brace----I
                 I I
t b I t I
a a I a I so the camera
would be linked to the model
n c model n camera & always right on
target in the shot
k k k <- the whole thing
could then be mounted on a line
t a n k b o t tom and dragged
slowly through the tank
                                                           a solid
track might be better...I have some of this

I also have a fair pile of drainage tubing (black corrugated
plastic of various widths) that could make some good tunnels, maybe
some models of tunnel joints/secret passageways
and, of course, reactor cores.

Thought the more toxic-looking stuff in the sewers, the better -
as well as skeletons of enormous crocodiles and the like.

I'll try to be paying attention to my email - put EFFECTS! or
WAKE UP ERIC! in the subject line.

Geoff! I love the crab claw! Awesome! Sorry I've been a bit slow
getting onto the bones skeleton group site, but now I'm here and I'm
so glad to see all of the postings from everyone including the cast of
Buckystein! I can't believe it's been over a year since the world
premiere of Buckystein. What a whirl-wind that was - now you're on to
your next project. Do you still need help building props? Keep us
posted! -Janet, your Buckystein editor.

Wow, it's great to feel the energy in this place!  Scott, I hope all is well.  For people who do not know Scott, Scott Henry, Stars in the newest episode of BUCKYSTEIN #6 on YouTube now, as  Rex, the heartless collage student http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yswquohSRc

And Colin "Dr. Henry Frankenstein" Cameron who stars in  the whole movie (and great photographer--not the claw as you can see from my shiny head!) check him out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75A8vXsZLKI

And of coarse, Sandra Bonnici, who was nice enough to bid on a walk on part for a middle school fundraiser here on the East side of Madison.  Sounds like she can do more than that!

So, news:

First, I still don't have a start date.  This film is so prop ridden, I'm still working on them.  Anyone wanting to help build miniatures, next Saturday say 11 to 2:00.  Please call me on my home phone 608-258-9737 as I'm switching jobs and the 608-209..... cell phone number is no longer mine.

Second, switching jobs from finding, to interviewing, to giving notice has been exhausting.  It's a roller coaster: telling good friends you no longer want to work for them,  and then starting a great job makes you feel great!  Old friends hurt...new job! etc.

Third, I'm having fun re-editing (intro/exit) the BUCKYSTEIN episodes, tracking them and exploring how youtube works.

Enjoy the great weather!

We have not cast anything yet, this is for several reasons.  One, I'm still pushing BUCKYSTEIN (like re-editing for YouTube), and two, I feel the new movie is so big I really can't start it until all the props are done.
