Since Oliver started this party. Thought I would chime in.

Isn't it time that we do away with resolution and frame rate based project
types? Should these not be moved a rung down the hierarchy and dealt with as
sequence types? Or maybe some sort of bin or folder type within a project.

All too frequently I am having to at least look at footage shot or produced in
an incompatible frame rate or resolution for the project I may be working in.
Now I have to create or move to a different project, even if just to view.

Would be very useful if frame rate and other restrictions were married to the
sequence. Down and cross convert options may also have to moved to some sort of
sequence settings. Abilities and options should only be stopped when attempting
to cut un-compatible media into a sequence.

Heck this may also deliver the possibility of doing transcoding and frame rate
conversions as such in bins to allow them to be cut into sequences. Could also
be useful when dealing with off speed 720p varicam stuff destined for 1080i
sequences.

Why create a new project instead of just changing the project type
that you're in? (And then changing it back when you're finished)

I think the idea is to remove the limitation of being able to even view or
browse footage from one project type in the other. Yes, a few with
compatible framerates can be switched. But no 23/24/25/29 or
PAL/NTSC/720/1080 can be switched to each other.

Say you're working in 1080/25p and need to review some NTSC 30i footage...

Fair enough, I didn't realise that.
Thanks,
