WTF with plugins and rendering in Avid. Is multi-thread/multi-
processor really that difficult? Who do we blame for this? You know
what: I really don't care who's fault it is! It's time for this
silliness to go away.

I don't know how this compares to FCP, but I'm totally sick of having
only one core on my 8-core CPUs working. When we switched to Mac, we
gained just enough power and speed to start using plug-ins

I've become addicted to digital filters- DFT, or rather Tiffen, is
especially helpful in making sucky footage not quite so sucky. Boris
has some nice ones, too, if a little funky. I won't even spend the
money on Saphire, for fear they'll actually work, and I'll be
rendering all night, every night. We're not talking silly 'cartoon'
effects or whacked-out-modern-digital-switcher-wipes, either... just
noise reduction, film grain, and filters that the DP could have used
in front of the lens in the first place (but I'd rather he didn't,
since he couldn't even be bothered to match his cameras, so imagine
what it would look like if he/she were tossing filters on there!)

This is just stupid. Fix it. Use the whole computer. Why should it
take 30 minutes to render a 3 minute clip. What is this ABVB? Come
on! This mac's a supercomputer, yet I can render out RED .R3Ds to HD
faster than I can render a simple Soft/FX.

I refuse to buy any more filters until someone addresses this
stupidity. Hire some code wizards, and don't put bureaucracy in front
of them. Snow Leopard? I can wait for that, but somehow I'm guessing
it's not the answer.

Please, please, please, make our filters render at a reasonable
speed. They don't have to be real time... I gotta eat and type
email... but, crap, at this rate, I could have multiple systems and
still have downtime!

And, while you're at it- what's up with color grading in HD? Is it
just Mac, or is the Symphony clunky regardless of the HD? We're doing
more and more HD, and the difference between HD and SD in symphony
color, at least on my mac, is seriously noticeable. I don't remember
it bothering me before - maybe it's the newer builds? Spinning beach
balls and little stop watches. Uhg. Is that what I paid extra for?
Grrrrrrrrrr.

Qmaster doesn't have anything to do with plug-ins in the editing application itself, I'm pretty sure. Even FCP doesn't allow for 'background' rendering... or...

@ Greg: I feel your pain. Are you on MC 3.x? I'm wondering if the effects you're using have to be re-coded to be an ACPL-based effect? If that's the solution,...

I'm with Mark here on FCP behavior. Soloing tracks and undoing a render is undesirable but at this point it falls in the realm of operator error. First, you do...
