Dear Film, Game, Music and Entertainment People, Friends, Investors and Fans,

WHAT: The Network Austin Mixer
WHEN: Wednesday February 10, 2010 - 7 PM -- Network Till Late
WHERE: Mother Egan's Irish Pub - 715 West 6th St. Austin, TX
WHO: Everyone involved in film, theatre and entertainment media... and YOU!
SPEAKER: Texas State Representative Dawnna Dukes
(http://www.house.state.tx.us/members/dist46/dukes.php)

The Network Austin Mixer is now in its fourth year and we deeply appreciate your
support! On Wed February 10 we are extremely honored to have as our Guest
Speaker Texas State Representative Dawnna Dukes -
http://www.house.state.tx.us/members/dist46/dukes.php. Representative Dukes has
served 8 terms in the Texas House of Representatives for Travis County District
46. During that time, she has served as a respected leader on the Committees on
Environmental Regulation; Business and Industry; Culture, Recreation and
Tourism, and on the Appropriations Committee.

In 2007, Representative Dukes was the prime architect of legislation that will
bring Texas into the forefront of the competitive Film Industry. Her bill, HB
1634, created the Texas Film Incentive program, which provides an incentive to a
project that produces at least 80% of it work and hires at least 70% of its
workforce from Texas. In 2009 Rep. Dukes authored legislation to enhance the
moving image incentives program to ensure that Texas remains competitive in the
film, television, and video game programs.

In all truth, without the tireless efforts of Dawnna Dukes and Bob Hudgins, two
outstanding "movers and shakers," and TXMPA, Texas would not have the new Texas
Film Incentive Program. Take advantage of this opportunity thank Representative
Dukes for her diligent work, benefit from her insights about where we are and
where we need to go, and experience her wisdom, passion, intelligence,
dedication, integrity and determination - qualities that make her the superb
leader she is. We expect a large crowd, so leave early, get parked and arrive on
time. Don't miss this opportunity! Join us on Wed Feb 10!

We are also deeply grateful to Texas Film Commission Director Bob Hudgins for
being our Guest Speaker on Wed January 27. See:
http://www.governor.state.tx.us/film. During his fact-filled presentation, Bob
updated us about the productions going on and being considered as a result of
the Texas Film Incentive Program, the need for more good sound stages in Texas,
why Dallas gets so much work, how fast the incentive funds are being used, how
much money they bring to Texas, why we need $100 million a year to sustain this
stream of revenue and effectively compete with other states, and numerous other
issues. He underscored the challenges we face in just maintaining – let alone,
increasing – the funding during the next Texas legislative session, which begins
in January 2011. In a nutshell, Bob delivered on all levels, demonstrating once
again how passionate he is and how hard he works on behalf of the Texas film,
commercial, game, and TV industries. Thank you again for all you have done, Bob,
and for another excellent presentation!

The Network Austin Mixer meets on the second and last Wednesdays of each month.

Taught By: Louise Martin, Black Belt Nia Instructor.

*L**ouise Martin, a recent New York CIty transplant, *has been an avid
student, practitioner and international teacher of movement techniques
for the past twenty years. In addition she has studied, trained and
worked as a performer for the past twenty five years. Her work as a
performer led her to an in depth exploration and curiosity of how the
body functions and moves. Her foundation in body exploration began with
the study of Yoga moving on to training in the Martial Arts in the
Mkeka-do system, a combination of traditional Japanese style karate and
kickboxing. Intent on learning how the body mind and spirit connect, she
trained in “Body Dynamics” a system based on bio-energetic and
vibrational healing techniques designed to uncover hidden trauma and
blocks in the body, preventing full artistic expression, to induce
greater well being and healing on all levels. Louise then discovered
“The Nia Technique” ten years ago which fused all her previous trainings
together. She is also certified with Yogaworks, NYC and continues to
study and learn.

Music video shoot for song “Get Your Green On.”

We are still looking for 3 locations for shooting – 1). a very elegant
bedroom like at a B&B or someplace similar. We want to use space in
exchange for promotional consideration, e.g., exposure of the location
in the video by signage or otherwise.

2). A dairy farm where we can shoot among a herd of cows,

3). A vegetable farm where we can shoot among a lot of crops.

Hopefully will be shot this week or first part of next week. The shoot
should take about 8 hours or less per location – to be shot on HD video.
To be shot in or around Austin.

We have representations from Logo that the video will be played there.
Also will get played on other outlets.

types including: filmmakers of all types, musicians of all genres, Video
game makers, fine artists etc. I also plan to include some of our law

clips of independent film work etc.

If you want to be a guest on the show... just fill out this form:
http://bit.ly/ENTERTAINMETX

The sky is the limit for this show, and I am very honored to be able to
provide this opportunity to my fellow artists. I am grateful to all who
helped me in my career so far, and hope to pay all of my film and
entertainment friends back for their help by helping them spread the
word about their talents abilities, resources, and projects.

We have it all here in TEXAS, and now we can tell EVERYONE!

The pre-show, will be an explanation of the show, and give an example as
well. We will be discussing what I believe is one of the most prevalent
topics floating around the TEXAS entertainment community today.

Topic highlight:

The new Texas Production Incentives, and TEXANS developing films in TEXAS!

Project highlights:

The TEXAS feature film "Anything for Now
<http://www.prweb.com/releases/2008/01/prweb630491.htm>" which was
funded (under 1M$), produced, shot, and completed in TEXAS. It is now
ready to sell, and utilized ALL TEXAS talent, and crew.

The Writer/Director H.R McDonald and Director of Photography Michael
Morlan <http://michael-morlan.net> of Austin Film Tools
<http://austinfilmtools.net> will be on the show with my discussing this
project.

The other project highlight that ties in with the topic is the TEXAS
feature film "Dogs of War" which is in development, with funding pitches
(for over a million$$) beginning in "Austin's Most High Tech Home
<http://tours.tourfactory.com/tours/tour.asp?t=382666>" at the end of
this month.

The Writer/Director Q Manning of Bleutuna Limited
<http://www.bleutuna.com/> will be on the show discussing the project
and the topic with Michael Morlan and Myself.

Musical guests will include two of the bands who helped me get the show
by playing at my massive entertainment parties last year. you can view
a video from one of them here: http://youtube.com/wolfpackalpha73

Dawn Over Zero <http://www.myspace.com/dawnoverzero> will be discussing
their new music video, and their career, and music.

JK Hines <http://www.myspace.com/kjhines> will also be on the show
discussing this career, aspirations, and achievements.

They will discuss the local music scene, etc.

I am not going to tell all, there will still be some cool surprises most
likely.

Infact, you never know what will happen on my show, it is live and
unscripted.

The real launch show will be over 24hours long and will start at 8am on
Thursday the 18th, and run until at least 9am on the 19th. There will
likely be a barrage of cool talented people...we will launch this show
right! It is a indie art marathon, and it will be CRAZY!

After that, the show will play every Thursday at 8pm on SMTX.TV
<http://smtx.tv>, and will begin its regular format.

A discussion topic, a musician highlight, and indie music video, some
special guests talking about their craft, and an indie project
highlight. Other surprises could happen each time... BECAUSE I get to
let what i want on the show. I love the artist community! I think the
people are entertaining, funny...and most are truly a genius in their
own rite.

So, that's it. The technology is here to bring the independent's voice
to the world LIVE in HD on SMTX.TV <http://smtx.tv> every Thursday at 8PM.

If you want to be a guest on the show just fill out this form.

Ken Johnson and Kayo Productions are in need of actors to read and
develop Mr. Johnson’s stage play DUET IN BE-FLAT into a possible feature
romantic comedy. Needed are actors who can play mid-twenties to
mid-thirties. The two leads - DAVID and BETH - must have leading actor
good looks - both physical and charismatic appeal. David can be any
ethnicity, but black. Beth can be any ethnicity. Other key roles are
ROBIN, a streetwise, foul-mouth teen, preferably with tattoos, and FRED,
a manly, black, gay hairdresser. No pay, but actors will receive video
for their reels and possible leads in a feature film. *Austin area
actors only.*

Mr. Johnson has directed a hundred plays in Austin and establishing
several theater companies. His prize-winning play, FINAL TOUCHES,
premiered in Los Angeles. His films have screened in Hollywood (Jury
Award), San Francisco, New York, Washington, DC and here in Texas. His
feature film EL ABANDONADO is currently in release though Vanguard
International Cinema.

E-mail headshots and resumes to kayoproductions@...

*DUET IN B FLAT*

*Brief synopsis from an Austin Chronicle review.*

Johnson’s present tale center on a youngish couple, David and Beth, and
their marital ups and downs, mostly arising out of self-doubts about
their respective talents.. Davis is a would-be artist, not a terrible
good one, reduced to painting a pizza still-life for a local
establishment. And Beth is a would-be actress back in town after an
unsuccessful stab at a New York career in theater.

Returning unexpectedly, she finds David ensconced with a
16-year-old-nymphet, and somewhat to her dismay, he doesn’t seem too put
out about his wife making this discovery. After all, they had talked
about a divorce, he reminds her.

The larger problem in David and Beth’s lives, however, isn’t David’s
sexual peccadilloes (he’s also intermittently involved with a gay
neighbor in the downstairs apartment) but the fact that neither David
nor Beth is willing to reveal himself (or herself) to the other. Davis
hides his bluff assertions and his justifications for his infidelity,
while Beth counters with a string of wisecracks and comic put-downs.

Playwright Johnson has worked some novel, often unexpected touches into
his plot, and I think we could say, though, that his piece is not that
far removed from the kind of contemporary comedy dispensed by Neil Simon
and Co.

But it’s also bright and sophisticated, and the dialogue boasts frequent
bursts of humor, so the whole this is both appealing, fresh and
entertaining.

Stop Shooting Yourself in the Foot
Many of you are insulting talented actors who /might other wise come
audition..
because for some reason when folks get around the age of 50 you think that
you have to attach the word OLD to their character description.

Do you consider Brad Pitt , Jim Carrey, Nik Cage, John Travolta, Francis
McDormant,
Susan Sarandon who are coming up on 50 old. or Meryl Streep who is 60 and
vibrant
and on Oscar nomination #16 old???? There are countless folks famous or not,
working
out there in this industry who work with great respect. It is clear you have no
concept of
age or manners. Please be don't feel you have to attach the word old, if you
call for an
age range -that will do just fine. Other wise you are showing your age..which
is perhaps
still without wisdom.

Respectfully

My name is Ben Kullerd, and I'm a fourth-year Radio-Television-Film
student at UT. I am re-casting and directing a five-minute scene from
Tony Kushner's ANGELS IN AMERICA, and I am looking for two actors. The
scene is between Belize and Roy, but I am reconsidering the roles a
little, so the character types are changing a bit from the usual types
cast for these roles.

Casting:

BELIZE, a queer person of color between 18-30 years of age, attractive -
may be male OR female, any race (non-white)

ROY COHN, a dying, white man between 30-60 years of age

Attention: Both roles have extensive dialogue, but neither role will be
compensated financially. However, this should make a fantastic addition
to your acting reel/résumé.

I have space reserved this weekend (Friday Feb. 5 - Sunday Feb. 7) on
the UT campus for auditions. I would prefer to conduct the bulk of
auditions on one or two days, rather than all three, so please be open
to coming any day this weekend. Auditions will be held at the CMB (dark
building with the satellite dishes on top, near the corner of Dean
Keeton and Guadalupe). More information and directions upon request.

Synopsis: Roy's phone call to his attorneys is interrupted when his
night nurse interrupts him to administer medication; Roy reveals that he
is self-medicating with AZT he acquired and has locked in his own
private mini-fridge. Belize attempts to talk Roy out of a few bottles;
when Roy refuses, a heated argument (full of racial slurs) ensues.

Shooting Dates: One-two days of shooting between now and February 28

Commitment: Scheduled rehearsals in February (TBD) and all shooting dates.

Compenstation: DVD of short film, meals/snacks on set, and snacks during
rehearsals.

Contact: Ben Kullerd, kullerdben@... - Please send headshot,
résumé and availability this weekend. Thanks!

Morning Aftermath

directed by Galen Church
produced by Bill Wise

Churchwise Productions is casting an Indie film.

One male, one female, 20-35, easy on the eyes and smart.

We are holding auditions Sunday February 7 from 1-4 at the Dougherty
Arts Center, 1100 Barton Springs Road, 78704.

Morning Aftermath is a witty glimpse at the underbelly of the Austin
one-night stand scene. Location heavy, star-studded, kinda naughty, but
stylistically honest and cinematically pure. The aftermath of three
successful one-night-outings are dissected by the opposing genders in
this all out hilarious romp through a haze of breakfast tacos and mimosas.

Ego rides as heart rules these characters AND the actors we want to see
audition for them.
The point is you can't be just pretty face, you've gotta bring something
to the table. So If you're good, I mean really good, and maybe are a bit
too oft overlooked because the casting contingent "just didn't get it".
Then this might be the audition for you.

Scheduled to be shot in mid-March with rehearsals TBD.
No pay but lotsa payback.

to get started. If your teen is already active, this is the best
way to take their career to the next level.

bring your teen's lunch, if you prefer, or $5 for pizza (per person).

also the writers and want and encourage actors to improvise during
auditions. This week scripts will be handed out in class and each
student will audition with playbacks at the end of class. Being in the
moment creates believability. Pre-planning how you are going to say
your lines creates stale, boring acting. Know your character and trust
yourself as an actor to live in the moment! Improvisation forces you to
be on your toes.

ACCENTS AND DIALECTS Led by MJ Vandivier
Standard British, Texan and Brooklynese. Every actor should have a variety of
dialects as part of their professional arsenal. Standard British is the most
frequently requested of the stage actor. In Austin, the Texas accent is one of
the most commonly used in film. And the Brooklyn dialect is simply a lot of fun
to learn!

SATURDAY, 2/06/2010

Sally Allen will be teaching class.

This
week we will  focus on script based improvisation. Many directors are
also the writers and want and encourage actors to improvise during
auditions. This week scripts will be handed out in class and each
student will audition with playbacks at the end of class. Being in the
moment creates believability. Pre-planning how you are going to say
your lines creates stale, boring acting. Know your character and trust
yourself as an actor to live in the moment! Improvisation forces you to
be on your toes.
