I worked with Ertug on the History Channel shoot. A very cool guy.
The script is interesting as well.

Hi Guys,

I am an aspiring director who graduated from USC Film School 2 years
ago. I am running company with Jason Baldwin who is an art
director.

Currently, we have raised $6000 for a short comedy script we are
working on. The writer was recently accepted to NYU's Master in
Creative Writing program and is a good friend of mine. The story is
15 pages long and I am planning to shoot it for $8000 in 16 or super
16 mm format. I am looking for a producer who can commit to this
project until we go to post. The target date for production is the
end of August. The locations are around LA and there are 2 main
characters.

I already have one of the main character casted and am looking for
the other. Please contact me if you think you are the right
producer for such a project.

I also would appreciate it if you can pass this message around to
people you know, who might be interested.

GROUP101SPOT LA SCREENING RECAP

Here's an indepth review from one of my rovering reporters regarding
the LA screening. She warned me, "I'm not a critic...just an
enjoyer of other people's work." However, it is insightful because
I have driven to LA on a couple of occasions for these types of
events only to find out that it was a waste of time.

13 directors, (four women ...nine men...)
so, 13 directors, 3 spots each. You do the math....

Shown outside on a too big screen.
Venue: RedCar Editing facility
I'm guessing 350+ attending.

...free Beer, wine and some, fancy colored stuff ...every color of
the rainbow. Burritos and hot dogs and another table of fresh
veggies and HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES and Oatmeal something
else cookies. Yum. A very wicked DJ (don't ask who...I can't
remember!!!!) but only two bold souls willing to dance. I talked to
them, they weren't drunk, they were just loving the music.

The crowd is, as is consistent at 101 functions, more curious than
most LA crowds, friendlier, and more fun, too.

Gift bags...very cool with a copy of the spots to take home...

One person said to me, "Well, I guess since the screen is outside,
they won't show the spots until it's dark." "Wow" I said, " I
didn't even think of that." I'm not being sarcastic, seriously...I
just didn't plan on spending 2+ hours waiting for the spots to
start...Numerous people showed up later...they probably already
knew the spots wouldn't start until dark. (really, my IQ is high...I
swear)

OK...Here's the scoop on the real reason to attend...or find out if
you can buy the DVD on the group101 website...because you get a lot
more spots than were shown that night.

TECHNICAL QUALITY....When viewed on a normal TV...excellent quality
a score of 8.5 to 10 all around. Viewed on the big, big
screen...expected diminishing of resolution...and still fun to watch.

CINEMATOGRAPHY PRECISION nods go to Dina Mande and Joel Kuntz, and
Tom Cartier

FUNNIEST, LOUDEST GUFFAW AWARD goes to: Tom Cartier for the
product:NEXT LEVEL FITNESS...."Escalator". HILARIOUS.... a
charming, but obviously round and a little overweight guy boards an
escalator. He wipes his brow as the escalator begins it's ascent.
Views change...we see him from behind, from the side, from the top
of the escalator, and he seems to be getting sweaty and I (the ever
observant) say Hmmm...is it heart attack PSA? What is it? He's
starting to shrink on the escalator...by the time he's to the top,
he's on his knees, gasping for air, completely wiped out. The tag
line.... need to get in shape? (LOL) It's a gym! OK, so
everyone else saw it coming, but really, I tried not to spoil it for
myself and figure it all out on the front end. I laughed harder and
louder than anyone and as I looked around I realized the crowd was
so tony and young and already fit...it wasn't as funny to them.. But
REALLY who is a gym trying to sell to? The ones who are already fit
and feeling smug about it? or the ones like me, w/30 lbs to lose
who need to get fit? SO....Tom Cartier wins that one.

THE ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT AWARD: Joel Kuntz for the product KRAFT
cheese...the spot:"Superman" A young boy's face with goggles on
POV is from below...what is it? Is he skiing? what will it be? Get
the DVD and see... So bright! So charming! So funny.

All of Kuntz' spots show noticeably superior cinematography.

THE GOD, I WISH I HAD BEEN CAST IN THIS ONE award goes to: Jason
LaMotte for the LOREAL "Endless Lip Color" Hilarious. A woman
with really large lips and wearing the brightest shade of "Endless
Lip Color" snags her man at the office, again and again and
again...very funny, and very sexy in a very real kind of way.

and THE WOW, THAT DRIVES THE POINT HOME AWARDS go to
1) KEITH WISNIEWSKI's HarpSeals.org...watch it. See what it would
be like if the seals were the one's hunting the humans.
2)HANA OGAWA's Mother's Against Drunk Driving. See a ballerina's
life change forever.

Lots of (yawn) beer commercials that will continue to look like they
look and sell like they sell as long as there is a market of young
men aged 18 to 35 who drink beer. Though rarely original, ya gotta
admit they are funny.

Dina Mande gave us a shot of the much needed originality in the the
BUD LIGHT "Poltergest" humour. It is a different perspective.

See you next time....

Miriam
