It's kind of cool that I haven't been able to send out a lot of info
lately mainly because I've been working a lot. I spent the last
week in LA working on "Kings of Babylon" for the History Channel
which will tentatively air November 1, 2004. It was a 4-day shoot
in Simi Valley & Burbank. When I auditioned, they asked me if I
would be willing to do extra work. I told them that it depended on
the part. So, I got a lot of featured roles (3-4), but the guys who
said no got bigger parts. So, next time I would probably say no so
I can I get a bigger part, even though it will be less days of
working. Also, there are so many others out there doing extra work
who are super-talented in other areas. So, make sure you take
business cards and network during the down time.
Then I worked on another Chapman University graduate short for 2
days. This is my third one for them and it all started from just
going to one casting call back in January. I got the 2nd and 3rd
one without auditioning based on my previous performance. This is a
perfect example of Woody Allen's quote, "80% of success is just
showing up".
I went to a screening for Chapman and another for AFI a few months
back. I must say that Chapman had a few that were higher quality,
but AFI's were consistently good (but not great on the night I
went).
I started reading a Steven Spielberg biography and got a few
poignant quotes from it:
"I've got my job. [Critics] have theirs - and I'm glad I have my
job."
"You don't really improve [over the course of your career] so much
as you get more courageous... I think some of my earlier films are
better than some of my later ones."
I really liked the first quote because it made the horrible review
we got from Variety for "Trade Offs" less painful. We had another
bad one from a Flordia press, but who gives a damn? Just keep doing
it!
Micheal Moore's "F 9/11" is breaking records (1st doc to open #1;
highest grossing doc). This guys knows how to put together a
documentary - doesn't matter what your political views are - it is
entertaining. This guy knows 'pacing' really well.
I saw it last night and when I got there was a pretty long line.
When I came out there was another line so long that it curved
around - and it was a monday night! History in the making.
Best,
Anup
