Slade turns six years old today, March 15th.

As many of you know my web site was hacked into by spammers. I am getting ready to rebuild it and hope to have it up and running by May.

Pasdar enjoys the flexibility of working on 'Heroes'

Monday, March 5, 2007

By VIRGINIA ROHAN
STAFF WRITER

Adrian Pasdar sweeps into the restaurant in Chelsea, apologizing for being a few minutes late -- because of horrendous cross-town traffic. If only he could have flown above Manhattan -- an ability his character possesses on "Heroes," this season's new breakout hit.
"I think people can identify with the world that it lives in, but also [appreciate] the escapism that it provides," Pasdar says, in that familiar deep and raspy voice. On this afternoon, city sidewalks are clogged with dirty slush from a recent snowfall, yet the Philadelphia-bred actor, briefly in from sunny Los Angeles, where "Heroes" is made, says that if he could, he would live in New York full time."But it's not where they make the movies."Pasdar orders a favorite entree, Beef and Guinness, at The Half King, which is just a few blocks from the Manhattan apartment he still maintains. This is the very restaurant, he says, where his son Slade, now 5, took his first steps. He and wife, Natalie Maines, lead singer of the Dixie Chicks, also have a 2-year-old son, Beckett Finn, and Pasdar often takes both boys to the set with him."They love it. It's fun for them to be able to come and see how things are made and then watch the show on TV," he says, adding that series television is a good fit for his life right now. "I get to come home every night, which is great. Most of the movies that they make are shot on location now -- unless it's a special-effects movie -- and I can't do that right now. I can't go away from my family."On "Heroes," Pasdar plays the driven Nathan Petrelli, an attorney who's running for Congress."He's a character that, in [creator] Tim Kring's words, is 'morally liquid.' Somebody who makes decisions that seem to be self-serving, and then he'll do something heroic, for lack of a better term, and then he'll go back to doing something that is, again, self-serving," Pasdar says.Nathan's campaign has been fraught with complications. Besides trying to hide his own superpowers (self-propelled flight and levitation), and those of his younger brother, Peter (Milo Ventimiglia), Nathan had a fling in Las Vegas with Jessica Sanders (Ali Larter) and, more recently, he got news that he has a love child -- Texas cheerleader Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere)."He wants the problem to disappear for a little while," says Pasdar of his TV daughter. "But, we deal with that in the episode coming up in a very beautiful way. We have a very nice scene together." (His answer is so deliberately vague, it's hard to tell if this scene has yet aired.)Asked if that story line will play out for a while, he says, "To an extent."He clams up fast when questions turn to future "Heroes" story lines."There's not really much I can proffer," Pasdar says. "It makes it difficult to do interviews sometimes, because there's so many things I'd love to be able to share with you. But they've all worked so hard to develop the stories, and it's all so interconnected. They trust us not to divulge any information."Pasdar has become very friendly with Ventimiglia. But he's pleased that as the "Heroes" characters' paths increasingly intersect, he's getting to interact with more members of the large ensemble cast."I haven't worked with everybody yet, but that's coming up in the next few episodes," he says. "The writers explained the arc of the story to the actors early on, in broad strokes, and all those things have pretty much come to pass. So it's been exciting."Asked if he anticipated the show's success, the 41-year-old actor -- who saw previous critically acclaimed series like "Profit" die premature deaths -- says, "There was hope, but I'm old enough not to expect anything anymore."E-mail: rohan@...

Adrian Pasdar: Heroes' "Flying Man" Swoops by TV Guide

by Matt Webb Mitovich
Adrian Pasdar, Heroes
You'd think a rock star was in the building the way the crowd poured into the TV Guide conference room when Heroes star Adrian Pasdar came by for a visit last Thursday. After pressing some flesh and autographing many TV Guide covers, Pasdar sat down with TVGuide.com to tease what's ahead for Nathan and that blonde beauty who's gunning for him. TVGuide.com: Do you know who we'll be taping over? [I play a tape of a female saying, "This is what I can tell you about her: In all of us there is an angel and a devil, and you get two-in-one with her."]
Adrian Pasdar:
That's Ali [Larter], the Jersey girl....
TVGuide.com: How's that for kismet? So last we tuned in, Jessica had just gotten her assignment to snuff Nathan. Why do I have the feeling that when the moment of truth comes, those two will end up having torrid sex instead?
Pasdar:
Well, we do end up in bed... but not like you think. I can't tell you any more than that, but we do end up on a bed.
TVGuide.com: Are you surprised by the amount of support for that couple, based on just that one early-season encounter?
Pasdar:
No. I mean, it's a logical extension of the physical things that we bring to the show. But it does take an interesting turn in Episode 20.
TVGuide.com: Of course, Nathan has that other great pairing, with Masi Oka's Hiro. Do you enjoy having those lighter moments to play?
Pasdar:
Yeah, it's fun. Every time there's a script where we have a scene together, they leave a little blank space for us to improvise. It's become a kind of tradition that we get to do that. It's great doing stuff with him, because I think he embodies the unbridled enthusiasm of a child, where I, of course, am saddled with the responsibility of an adult. So the two characters, when we get together, it's interesting.
TVGuide.com: Even before Heroes premiered, we here were making much of the last moments of the pilot, where Nathan swoops in to save Peter. Take us back to when you first read that scene in the script.
Pasdar:
I still get goose bumps talking about it. It read just like it played, and that's one thing about the show they have been able to consistently maintain: What they write is exactly what we film.
TVGuide.com: Enigmatic characters, good buzz, ardent fans — you've been down this road before, with the short-lived Profit. Did that temper your reaction to the reception Heroes was met with?
Pasdar:
A little bit, yeah. I'm old enough to have been through this a few times, where you're excited and happy, but you also realize it could all go away [Snaps fingers] just as quickly as it came. But I'm enjoying it.
TVGuide.com: Do you think your spring 2006 Housewives drop-by played a small but undeniable role in reestablishing your profile and getting you this plum role?
Pasdar:
Oh, I don't know... maybe. I'm the last person to ask about that. You'd have to ask my manager. [Sitting nearby, Pasdar's manager points out, "Adrian spent two years on Mysterious Ways and two years on Judging Amy. He had not been off TV."] That's the thing, I don't do a lot of press, so people go, "Oh, you went away and came back," but I'm like, "No, I just decided to stop talking to the media for a while. That's all."
TVGuide.com: Could the Housewives role have been longer term, or was it stymied by the fact that your lawyer was macking on a pregnant Gabrielle?
Pasdar:
No, I couldn't have done any more than I did, three episodes.
TVGuide.com: Back to Heroes, was there one particularly difficult moment in safeguarding the secret of Claire's paternity all these months?
Pasdar:
No, you just can't talk about it. But I had to tell somebody, so I told my 5-year-old. The day I read the script, I said, "Do you want to know a secret?" He goes, "What?!" I told him, and he held the secret the entire time.
TVGuide.com: We've only seen Nathan's wife (played by Rena Sofer) in dribs and drabs. Might we get more of her before the season is up?
Pasdar:
I think so. Rena's been busy working on 24, but I believe she'll be back.
TVGuide.com: Are there any bombshells left to uncover in that marriage?
Pasdar:
Sure.... [Chuckles] Yes. The answer is yes.
TVGuide.com: The Dixie Chicks documentary Shut Up & Sing comes out on DVD Tuesday. Can fans look for any additional coverage of you? [Pasdar's wife is lead singer Natalie Maines.]
Pasdar:
I don't know.... They took maybe three years' worth of B-roll, so... I went to great lengths not to be a part of that because that was my wife's thing and not mine, but I was in it. And I know I'm in a lot more than they used, so maybe.
TVGuide.com: Leave us with a last tease about the episode you just got done filming. A word. A place. A name. Anything.
Pasdar:
How about... [Thinking] "Tick-tock." That's the tease. [To manager] Read the top page of the [Episode] 20 script. [Manager: "In accordance with the production's zero tolerance for revealing script pages or ideas contained herein, to any person outside the production, you are reminded that this material is copyrighted, and unauthorized copying or disclosure of this material is prohibited and could result in your immediate dismissal."]
TVGuide.com: Wow, you can almost feel the barrel of the gun against your temple!
Pasdar:
He didn't read the part that says, "The family is only as strong as the secrets we keep." I love that part.

would think it would behoove Us to know in advance when our faves are

First of all, thiw isn't an official fan club, so I don't always get notice. Secondly, I recently had my leg amputated and have been in the hospital and couldn't get notice out before now.

Milo Ventimiglia and Adrian Pasdar on 'Heroes'

Adrian Pasdar is naturally circumspect about the immediate future for Nathan Petrelli, his politician character on "Heroes." But he's more than happy to speculate on something that might happen in, oh, season five or six.

"When you're in the game of politics and you're a guy like Nathan, there's only one seat, ultimately, that you're looking for, and that's behind a desk in the Oval Office," Pasdar says. "As we take our journey, and hopefully we get a chance to be on the air for a number of years, I think we might find ourselves in the White House. Where that family fits into the family he has now ought to be interesting."

There's a lot of ground to cover between now and then, but Pasdar can be forgiven for thinking ahead given how well "Heroes" has performed out of the gate for NBC. The series is among the top-rated new shows of the season (and leads all newcomers among the 18- to 49-year-olds advertisers love), and it's attracted a sizable legions of obsessive fans so far.

The superhero angle of the series undoubtedly hooked a number of those fans, but both Pasdar and Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Nathan's brother Peter, think what's keeping them interested are the human stories in which the characters are involved.

"It's kind of the foundation of where we're all going and how we react to a lot of things," Ventimiglia says. "You take Peter, who has a big heart and is a caregiver, he falls in love with Simone [Tawny Cypress], but of course she's attached to someone else. It's not until she makes the first move that he goes through with that. It's just one of those complicated kinds of dramas that [can be part] of any situation."

The two actors have become friends during the course of the season, and they say they're having a ball playing their brotherly relationship. This despite the fact that their characters don't really get along.

"There's an adversarial tone to the relationship, an alpha-male component to how they see each other," Pasdar says. "I don't always treat Peter on screen with the respect one would hope for. So that's somewhat of a challenge, and we have to look at each other and understand that as real as it is on screen, it certainly doesn't reflect the respect we have for each other."

"Sometimes you'll be working on a highly emotional scene, and you get lost in the fact that you're actually kind of having fun with your friend at work," Ventimiglia adds. "Now when we finish a scene, we just look at each other and start laughing. I have this great opportunity to just go and have a good time and give it as much as I can. Adrian gives so much to me, and I'll be damned if I'm not going to give it right back to him."

Neither Pasdar nor Ventimiglia will say too much about where the show is headed in the near future, but they are willing to part with a few details. Starting Monday, we'll meet Nathan's wife (Rena Sofer, who will appear in several episodes), who will help reveal a little more about her husband's driven nature.

Ventimiglia also hints that we may see how his character, who can temporarily take on the powers of another "super" if he's in the same room with them, will react if he's in proximity to more than one such person.

"I think there's a pressure, a physical pressure that Peter feels if he were in a room with two heroes," he says. "There's a physical, mental overwhelming that it could possibly get him into. We do get into that, and also, is he ever going to retain [someone's abilities] or is it just when he's near someone?"

It's that kind of thing that has sent fans scurrying to message boards and the proverbial watercooler, and both actors say they're noticing that "Heroes" has entered the zeitgeist. Ventimiglia says he's overheard people on the street talking about it, and Pasdar has chatted up folks when he's been flying.

"People don't tend to recognize me from the show, and it's great," Pasdar says. "I've had conversations with people about the show, and they don't even realize I'm in it. It's fun to hear people talk about what might be coming up, what has happened, what they think this means and who's going where. It's fun to be a part of that."

Adrian looked GREAT. Amazing, he looks literally 100% the same as he
did when he was on Profit. Great to see him back in prime time.

For those that couldn't catch it, USA has been showing repeats of the
show as well, so you have more than opportunity to see it.

Premise:

"The epic drama Heroes chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities. As a total eclipse casts it shadow across the globe, viewers follow a genetics professor (Sendhil Ramamurthy, Blind Guy Driving) in India whose father's disappearance leads him to uncover a secret theory -- there are people with super powers living among us. A young dreamer (Milo Ventimiglia, The Bedford Diaries) tries to convince his politician brother (Adrian Pasdar, Judging Amy) that he can fly. A high school cheerleader (Hayden Panettiere, Ice Princess) learns that she is totally indestructible. A Las Vegas stripper (Ali Larter, Final Destination), struggling to make ends meet to support her young son (Noah Gray-Cabey, My Wife & Kids), uncovers that her mirror image has a secret. A prison inmate (Leonard Roberts, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) mysteriously finds himself waking up outside of his cell. A gifted artist (Santiago Cabrera, Empire), whose drug addiction is destroying his life and the relationship with his girlfriend (Tawny Cypress, Third Watch), can paint the future. A down-on-his-luck beat cop (Greg Grunberg, Alias) can hear people's thoughts, including the secrets of a captured terrorist. In Japan, a young man (Masi Oka, Scrubs) develops a way to stop time through sheer will power. Their ultimate destiny is nothing less than saving the world." (NBC's official description for the series.)

This NBC series is executive produced by creator/writer Tim Kring (Crossing Jordan), Dennis Hammer (Crossing Jordan) and David Semel (House), who also directed the pilot.

News:
(07/13/06) - On Friday (July 21) you can see the pilot for this upcoming NBC series at San Diego Comicon."12:30-2:00 NBC: 'Heroes' Pilot Screening and Q&A with Cast and Producers: Debuting on NBC this fall, the highly anticipated series ‘Heroes’ chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities. Be the first to watch an exclusive 72-minute cut of the pilot episode, created specifically for Comic-Con. Join cast members Ali Larter ('Final Destination'), Greg Grunberg ('Alias'), Milo Ventimiglia ('Gilmore Girls'), Hayden Panettiere ('Ice Princess'), Sendhil Ramamurthy ('Blind Guy Driving'), and Masi Oka ('Scrubs'); creator/executive producer Tim Kring; executive producer Dennis Hammer; co-executive producer/comic book writer Jeph Loeb ('Lost,' 'Superman for All Seasons'); and legendary comic book artist Tim Sale ('Batman: The Long Halloween') for a Q&A session. Room 6CDEF."(06/29/06) - Scifi Wire recently spoke to Ali Larter, who stars in this upcoming series as Niki Sanders, a Las Vegas stripper and single mother that suddenly gains supernatural powers."I'm so excited to be part of the show," Larter said in an interview."It's about 10 characters from all over the world [who] discover they have these extraordinary abilities. It's not like X-Men, where all of a sudden we're flying and we know what we are. It's more a question of if you are sitting right there and you figure out that you can hear everyone else's thoughts, but you have to ... come to work every day, and you have to take your kids to school, and you still have to pay your bills.""The internal question is: 'Are you going crazy or is this for real?'" Larter said of her character. "The way [creator and executive producer] Tim [Kring] is writing it and why I'm so excited about being part of this show is the questioning of the why. Are you helping people? Or are you hurting people in understanding what your powers are?"What are her character's powers? "There's something that has to do with my reflection and what's happening with that, and possibly some extraordinary strength may have something to do with it all.""The first season is about understanding what is happening to us. The characters will end up meeting each other and figuring it out, but it's not right on the nose. You don't know what is happening, and I think it will make audiences relate, because it could happen to any of us. The way [Kring] writes it makes you believe that it can. I don't know if anyone ever thought this would come out of Tim Kring's mind from Crossing Jordan. It's like he kept this locked in a special place, because he's created such an extraordinary world. It's really special."(05/12/06) - NBC gave this series (and Raines) a green light for the 2006-2007 season.(05/05/06) - Greg Grunberg (Alias) told SCI FI Wire about his Everyman superhero character in Heroes. "It basically really covers the humanity of becoming a superhero, what happens when [eight] ordinary people get these super powers, and I get to be one of them."

"I play a cop who can read people's minds, but I can't control it. So in the pilot it's really interesting how it just comes at me, and I don't know how to deal with it, and then I kind of use it. It could be really, really interesting if we get a series."

"You're not going to get me in tights and a leotard," he said. "No one wants to see me in a cape!" He added: "It's high-concept, obviously. It's very creepy and dark. I mean, it's disturbing at times. And then also, it's like, 'Oh, man. I wish I could do that.'"

(03/10/06) - According to Comingsoon.net, Adrian Pasdar (Desperate Housewives, Profit) and Noah Gray-Cabey (My Wife and Kids) have joined the cast of the pilot.

(02/14/06) - According to The Hollywood Reporter, Greg Grunberg (Alias), Ali Larter (Final Destination 2), Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls, and Hayden Panettiere (The Book of Daniel) have joined the cast.

Cast:

Greg Grunberg as Matt Parkman
Milo Ventimiglia as Peter Petrelli
James Kyson Lee as Ando Masahashi
Noah Gray-Cabey as Micah Sanders
Adrian Pasdar as Nathan Petrelli
Ali Larter as Niki Sanders
Hayden Panettiere as Claire Bennet

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... "Profit"... *love* it... so what are your favourite
scenes/lines? I admit I have a certain fondness for "The day he gets hit by
a bus, is the day I believe in God.", delivered impeccably by Chaz Gracen,
re: his father's friend, played by Donnelly Rhodes, who is the one to
motivate Chaz to hire Jeffrey Sykes.

Great, great episode, and I loved all the game playing and one upmanship.

You're welcome. :) Apparently, the two surprises were (a) the extra on
Disc 3, and (b) the pictures on the back of the DVD cases, so nothing else
extra on the disks themselves.

"Cement", haven't seen, so can't help there as to whether it's a good movie,
worth watching, etc.

I'm not sure if this message was sent or approved but here goes I'll try
again.. Wish me luck It's a two parter... First question was ...Has
anybody located the (2 nd.easter egg) in the D.V.D. set of "PROFIT" I
read where the first one was on disc 3 but at the time nobody seemed to
know where the other one is ...So if you know and wish to share I'd
appreciate it. Second question is about the movie "Cement " directed by
Adrian Pasdar..I can only buy it where I live but it is something I'd
wish to know more about before purchasing ..Such as is it really
violent? is it Bloody? Is the acting good in it? thanks every body for
your help...Have a good WEEK-END... And "Happy Mother's Day out there to
all you MOM"s ...!!!

He's supposed to be in the new NBC show, "Heroes", in the fall I believe. I
hope that the list'll really pick up, as the series gets closer to filming,
and then launching.
