Whether Alan has had anything done or not is something NONE of us can possibly know. He could have had some subtle work done to ease the jowls and bags under his eyes. I live in an area where there are national experts in the field of cosmetic surgery and there ARE ways of "refreshing" the face with almost no downtime. I agree with Ann and believe that he has had something VERY subtle done in regards to the eyes and jowls but not to the extent that some celebs do. However, whether he has or not is certainly not an issue for flaming remarks as someone seems to need to do and judges herself to be an expert on Mr. Rickman.
Oh, I haven't said he has or hasn't had any work done. Just wondering how anyone else would know if he has or hasn't.

Well it is fairly easy.
Yes he is protective of his privacy, but there are paparazzi and tabloid journalists (even in England) who don't respect that. He has said himself about journalists going through his rubbish bins for example, and we have all seen the pap shots of him doing his shopping etc... They would have found something if he had been in hospital for a face lift (just go to a site like WENN and you can see all sorts of celebs being photographed leaving various hospitals after having had work done).
On top of that he still has slight jowls and slight bags under his eyes, if he had surgery to correct either then he ought to demand his money back.
Like a few people I have followed his career for a long time, around twenty years, and you can tell from the interviews over those years etc.. that he is not vain enough to have had the surgery done. I think he would consider it a waste of money that he could better use helping others.
He also hasn't been out of the limelight for long enough to have had anything surgical done. Even if it isn't made public knowledge he is often seen out and about.
Red carpet photographs are never the best way to judge anything, lighting is different on top of that many photographers and professional photograph websites often touch up photos. Candid shots by fans are a better way to judge and those show that if he has done anything at all he is just using one of those moisturising creams which help "ease the signs of aging" ;-)
I could go on but I won't as I think enough of us have made the point that he has not had a face lift ;-)

I am respectfully asking, and not intending to offend anyone here. How do you know if he has or hasn't had anything done, facelift or otherwise? Considereing how fiercely protective of his privacy he is, how would you know? Just curious.

This is true, but he could have had something else done. He does seem to look more firm recently, but IF he has had ANYTHING done, it is tastefully subtle, thank God. There are so many other options out there nowdays. But my point is that he is SO private, it would be very hard for anyone to say whether he has or hasn't had anything done. I don't think tht is something that he would share with the public, and unfortunately in his case, we are the public.
On the other hand, it could be that he has just gotten a lot of really good rest lately! LOL!!

Ann

Personally he doesn't look like he's had a facelift. You can tell when a man has had a face lift. They get this plastic unnatural look. It's horrible. Alan Rickman doesn't have that look.

19 October, 2008 - Each flag, below the crosses, represents the Canadian men and women who have given their lives for our freedom.
We must never forget them!
This is a Prayer for our Canadian Troops in Afgahnistan.
97
Prayer wheel for our soldiers...please don't break it.
Please send this on after a short prayer.
When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our troops around the world.
'Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen.'
There is nothing attached.... This can be very powerful. Just send this to all the people in your address book. Do not stop the wheel, please...
Of all the gifts you could give a Canadian Soldier in harm's way, prayer is the very best one.
God Bless our Troops!

Sounds interesting. I remember American Beauty o American Pie or something like that, with that guy having an affair with his daughter's friend. Ewww! Never did like that show. Hope it isn't like that. Celeste

Nobel Son is not very popular here. I got there about 40 min early had the theatre to myself (I thought) until about 2-3 minutes into the movie. Then a man came in. When the movie was over another man came from somewhere up in the top. I never saw him and I looked up there several times. So only three of us int he whole theatre room.

Well, not to gloat, but most days I do not look my age, if I've had enough sleep. If I haven't, I get that puffy eyed thing going on and dark circles. At anyrate, I would love to have something done about the slacking jawline and under-eye bags, but that isn't in my budget. If I'm well rested, I look pretty good. I credit a lot of that to some good family genes, but it's also due to obsessive use of expensive moisturizers. I have used them meticulously for the last 15 years. I also use a sunscreen and moisture in my foundation. I would not feel dressed if I did not have my moisturizer on every morning and every night. I started using 'Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Cream'. It comes in a tube and is a thick cream rather than a lotion. It is the best in the normal stores. What I switched to is that really expensive one you buy at Macy's. It's called 'Streivectin' and is advertised as a stretchmark cream turned anti-aging treatment. It is very expensive, but I buy it at their site online and a little goes a long way. I figure, if I only need to buy it once or twice a year, I could afford it. I almost had heart failure when I flew to Mexico and had forgotten to put it in my luggage instead of carry-on. They found it at the airport and you know how you are supposed to toss everything more than 3 oz in size? Well, they do make an exception for Streivectin. They said they treated it as a prescription medication. So I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Would not have wanted to toss that in their circular file. I also doubt very seriously if I could afford those lazer treatments that seem so good. I have no moral scruples about using whatever it takes to not look old. But I would draw the line at looking fake. I wouldn't want that doe-in-headlights look. So anyway, aren't you glad you asked??? Nothing suggests he ever did anything as drastic as a face lift, and
especially when you consider his apparent discomfort with his capped
("American") teeth, I doubt he'd want that. But I for one would
love to know his secret. We've seen pictures of Alan that
reflected "getting older" issues that have not only stopped
progressing but have disappeared from later pictures. I wonder if
he's had some of the new laser treatments, found a great
dermatologist, or just has very, very good genes.
I'm struggling to hold back the hands of time and when I see someone
who is doing that, so spectacularly, I try to figure out what they
are doing that is clearly working so well.

No good going by professional photographs they are often doctored by the sites selling them to magazines etc...
Go by the ones taken by fans and you will see he has good genes, he is suceptible the same as all of us to changes due to weight gain & loss as well as diet, sleep etc...

I have a cousin who is 1 year younger than me. She's 45. She looks
about as old as my 80 year old mom!!
Alan is adorable. He'll be adorable even when he's very old. People
are beautiful to me no matter what their age is. I like honest
wrinkled skin and white hair much more than the results of plastic
surgery. People get old and it's okay. It's just life. Bald spots

I love your comments and I'm so glad that you appreciate AR for the truly exceptional man that he is. Amazing, that at 13 you are able to recognize that. There are some men who will always transcend the bounds of age and exude a brilliance and beauty that most do not. He is one of those men. Whether he were 20 or 80 he would still be amazing. As a woman much closer to his age than yours, he is hugely attractive to me. A bit of thinning hair or balding patch toward the back of the head is normal for men. Most don't get it until after 40, but many start losing hair much younger. I would rather look at silvery/gray hair in a 30 year old than a balding head, but then I really like hair. The fact that young boys shave their heads now is a mystery to me. Were I 20 again, I would not find that attractive in the least. With that said, AR could shave his head and I would still find him gorgeous. I think that many famous men use high quality hair pieces to disguise thinning and balding patches. You'd be surprised to find out how many do. Celeste

Thirteen well then From your point of view, I guess he would appear a lot older. Nice to Know Alan has fans of all ages and not just middle aged women like me.

DO NOT DELETE......for our overseas troops.

I ain't check the rest of email on this to see if anyone stated when he going to be on but he going to be on Jimmy Kimmel Wednesday(3rd). I will be setting my DVR because I don't need to be up late because I have school and I don't feel like being half asleep for class.
Bye,

Thats it! I set my DVR too. Although now I long for VCR days as you cant keep them forever on DVR. I loved his last appearance on Jimmy. He said that American tea was shite. As my Dad was British and I was raised on a daily cuppa, I firmly agree. But when we had a glitch in the DVR harddrive we lost the episode.
I use my VCR occasionally to copy something from the DVr. I had a DVD recorder for awhile but it died.
Daniel Radcliff is going to be on Bravo Monday on a show called The Actors Studio or An Actors studio. I also have my DVR set for that one. They have been showing commercials with him. He wears a beard now. well sort of one. LOL
